I went and got the US ISO from the volume licensing site and installed it in a VM where RSAT went and installed fine, I had similar issues getting a language pack installed (although I suspect it was due to our filtering more than anything, I just cba to dive into it). More of a workaround than a fix I suppose.

What are you planning on displaying on this and does it need to be particularly user friendly? You don't need anything special if you're happy enough scripting/playing around with certain solutions. 4 screens plugged into separate video inputs on a half decent graphics card would do it fine. Your requirement for 4 separate images pretty much throws out products like the Matrox adapters, separate GPU outputs is the only way to go.

What I described is our setup with SchoolsBroadband. They allocate us a rather large block of private IPs and I carve them up as we see fit. SB's router sends all traffic for (example) 10.0.32.0/20 to our core switch as the next hop, and our core switch default routes back up to them. We let SB handle the firewall side of things and everything (including NAT) works as expected, a 5 minute support call does the job and all our external services work fine. I suppose the real question in this case is, how good is your LA's support desk? I'd hate to introduce yet another NAT layer in your case, double NAT causes far more trouble than problems it solves in my experience.

It depends on how you want them ordered in the GAL, we use display names for people that have more publicly facing address like our school office, so we'd have something like "Jane Doe (Schoolname Office)" but then for the pupils we use something like "z(s) John Doe" to push them to the bottom.

We just deployed our first batch of Ubiquiti UVC-G3-DOME cameras with Ubiquiti NVR hidden away (with an extra 4TB external USB disk to extend recording time) and I've been absolutely blown away by them. The G3 Domes will run off standard PoE (we run ours off our HP switches) but I believe the bullets need passive PoE. The image quality is outstanding, and they give you the option of disabling microphones per camera if needed. We had a bit of a fight with our governors over recording audio, they were really pushing us to do it but in the end the HT sided with me and refused to enable the microphones. HDMI nowadays, we found that sticking by VGA was limiting our choice of laptops so we ditched it when we swapped all our projectors for CleverTouch screens, particularly with our new Lenovo X260 devices.

Create a point to point VLAN with a /30 subnet between your L3 switch and the county's router, then continue to VLAN to your heart's content, no need to faff with NAT.

Are all the clocks correct on your computers? Could be an authentication issue, too. Check: DNS Time Static IP config on your servers AD Replication health

We just use machine authentication on the iPads. It works quite well because we can match up the times certain pupils use certain iPads (they're assigned on a 1 to 1 or 1 to 2 basis generally) with our filtering logs if anything goes wrong. User authentication was just too clunky :/ We do have some that require authentication via a captive portal on Lightspeed instead on another SSID, in this case we just whitelist all Apple and Meraki domains so the iPads can still update and contact our MDM whilst signed out.

Our own LEA was trying to scare us into staying with them before we moved to SB. Trying to scare us with the pricing of AVCO and all the other rubbish they bundled with it we didn't actually use... Tbh we were more scared by their shoddy support and bad uptime. Of course, AVCO is SSL so heh. The thing that irks me is a lot of Primaries probably buy into it because they don't know better or don't have IT support that could inform them properly.

Hi All, I've had a request from some staff for a place where students can setup their own blogs as part of one of their lessons. I'm just wondering how you guys would go about this? They're going to need their own e-mail accounts on Office365 too, which isn't an issue, so I thought maybe this could be done using that? I seem to recall Wordpress had a function to host multiple blogs but I'd rather stick everything in one place if possible Any ideas? EDIT: Found the Wordpress Multisite option, but I'd still like to hear how you guys have done it, particularly as they need access to e-mail too.

Personally I'd say the plethora of options (Group Policy, various MDMs such as Meraki, InTune, SCCM etc etc) gives Microsoft the edge in this case. I don't know too much about Chromebooks, how do SMART boards etc work with them?

We've been perfectly happy with BT Infinity. Consistent download speeds (80 down, 20 up) and the only downtime we've had is due to the crappy HomeHub router I haven't got around to replacing yet. We had so many issues with VM throttling us (and the price hikes...) we eventually got fed up too.

What machines are they? Nowadays I wouldn't accept legacy boot as a fix, UEFI is so much faster to boot.

Hi Guys, Just looking for some advice on hardware for our new server room We're getting an extension built as part of our three to two tier conversion and I'm going to be given a (small) room for all our equipment, but not sure on planning it out. It's not going to be particularly big so space is a premium and I was just wondering what sort of racks you guys are using? We're looking at a standard 42U rack, but one side is going to end up being against a wall. It's going to house our UPSs, servers, and various core network infrastructure in there (about 24U currently) so it's got to be big enough for that, and preferably have some decent cable and power management. Any ideas for racks, or any gotchas? I'm not particularly sure on what sort of width and depth to look at for this, or what to do in terms of PDUs. At the moment I'm thinking we'll have x2 8 core fibre runs between our two existing comms cabs and this new building, some form of air conditioning, and a couple of 50a dedicated circuits into the room. Any tips mucho appreciated!

We had a lot of problems with the 1511 and below versions of Windows 10, just reimaged all our machines in the school to the new Win 10 AU and they seem to be working so much better. All the hardware and start menu bugs we had are gone, and logon times have been reduced dramatically. We're not using LTSB though, I cleaned probably about 50% of the apps out of the normal Education AU image on the VLSC, I don't believe in deploying LTSB.

Without huge software? About 45 minutes. With huge software? (x2 25GB software packages) more like 3 hours once they're done downloading them and unzipping them as part of our SCCM task sequence. Our SCCM server has 3Gbps available to our core, the machines generally have around 100Mbps for laptops on a deployment bench, or 1Gbps for desktops on our access switches. We use SSDs in all our devices now, and our SCCM DP is on it's own RAID5 array. I'm trying to get multicast working but hitting a problem where configuring SCCM for it seems to knock out the management point role :/ You can see how deployment times can vary wildly depending on the machine and what connection they have, the processors in particular make a massive difference when it comes to unzipping the two software packages.

Not sure on the legalities but we archive data for students because we've had a few come back and ask for their work as examples in interviews/uni etc.

@FN-GM; Users can be assigned different source hosts on MySQL. I think what you've done here is created 'blue' on MySQL with access via localhost, but not via another machine. When you create the user change the host from localhost to %, then rerun your privileges grant and it should work. CREATE USER 'blue'@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'some_pass'; This would also explain why you have issues connecting to the database from another machine, if you've tried that.

Sell the newer ones, chuck the older ones (like netbooks). I got into that state and now I live by "if I haven't used it in 18 months, and it doesn't hold sentimental value, in the trash it goes!" for most of my stuff!
