We ditched them when we went over to CleverTouch screens - nowadays the staff rarely use their laptops for whiteboard activities and use the built in apps on the built in Android system. Those that do still use their laptops on them just stick to PowerPoint weirdly! I did see they were pushing their SMART Notebook subscriptions hard recently, but they priced us out of it years ago and now we don't have a reason to go back!

Also yes. We ported two BT numbers onto one Gamma VoIP trunk through @Millgate; no problem. They managed everything for us. I did something similar at home too.

We found Smoothwall was stupidly expensive compared to the cost of Sophos UTM, and actually I liked Sophos' interface better. I'd highly recommend them. Smoothwall's price was literally 3 or 4 time more than Sophos.

How come the newer firmware isn't an option? The upgrades on Sophos UTM are usually painless!

Yes, you're right! I'll take a look at our config next week, this is definitely how we've got it setup one way or another since staff USBs are encrypted and kids arent!

I had it added on to our licensing probably 2 years ago and our licensing guys (Pugh, now Millgate) both said they were included under the FTE count... I hope they're right!

Are you using MBAM from the MDOP suite? The MBAM group policies have this as a specific policy (not preference) setting. USB sticks are read only until encrypted. I then make this "per user" by using loopback processing IIRC. Honestly, if you aren't the cost of MDOP is worth it for MBAM alone. I gave one of our SLT access to the help desk portion of the MBAM site and they can lookup recovery keys for any laptop or USB stick in seconds.

I'll be fair to SB, their filtering has been seemingly perfect for the past couple of months. As others have said, the connection was always rock solid

I absolutely love LowePro gear. It lasts ages, are ridiculously practical and their customer service is top notch if anything happens to your bag. I had them replace a 3 year old camera messenger bag a couple of months ago under their lifetime warranty because one of the zips had broken. They didn't make that particular bag anymore so they let me choose from any replacement on their store, all at their own expense. They're pricey but they're totally worth it. I have a messenger one that can hold my 13" MacBook Pro, DSLR, and about 3 lenses with plenty of room to spare for other bits and pieces like water bottles. This one is my go to for travelling with a lot of gear. My second choice is Wenger - very rugged and practical and they last absolutely years. I'm still using the one my parents bought me... that one must be coming up to 10 years old or so now. IMO if you're trusting a bag with £1000s of equipment, splurging a little isn't going to hurt!

Do your phones have a 'diagnostic' screen? I know most Cisco and Avaya phones do - this will show things like Ping, RTT, Jitter whilst in a call. I'd be looking at that (your internet connection quality) - it's obviously not an internal problem if you can dial other extensions with no issue. FWIW we're running our Gamma SIP trunks over a 20/5 FTTC connection via KCOM with no issues (separate from our main Internet connection). I do QoS on our firewall to give VoIP traffic priority and 4Mbps guaranteed bandwidth.

AFAIK you can't move APs to another Meraki account, so there wouldn't be any resale value. You might be able to eBay them if they can run DD-WRT (some can I know), though.

This is my problem, there's actually nothing wrong with them on iOS9 and they're plenty fast enough but I dare say Apps will slowly start disappearing :/

Hi All, Just wondering when you guys are 'end of life'ing iPads in your schools? We have a batch of iPad Mini devices which are now deemed 'end of life' by Apple and weren't updated to iOS 10, so now I'm trying to work out how much longer we keep them and when I should be budgeting in for new ones. We have around 27 iPad Minis at the moment that are old, so I'm thinking maybe I should be budgeting in to replace half this April and half next? Maybe I'll wait another year and then start thinking about it. What are your guys' thoughts, or what are you planning to do? Cheers

Update to the latest UniFi controller

Is your external domain the same as one you use internally? Or maybe your DNS servers are giving out info for your external domain and you forgot to update them?

Does your firewall not have some kind of live logging feature? You should load up whatever logs you can and look for any blocked requests coming from your iPads.

I'm not sure... my partner has GHD everything and I have to admit they seem very well made and her hair takes a lot less time now! The plates on some special edition straighteners got scratched and GHD replaced them under warranty in under a week with no hassle, so thumbs up from me!

Is the subnet mask between your controller and the AP the same, since you're on a /23? Have you setup a "unifi" DNS record that points to your controller IP?

We're a full Hyper-V school here running across 4 virtual hosts now with a mixture of Windows and Linux guests and I'd recommend it just for the ease of management, flexibility, and backups even if you only have one host. That said, I'm not sure what planet some people are on, Hyper-V has been around for years and making huge leaps of progress with every release, with the ridiculous prices VMware want for their more advanced features and the resources the vSphere console use Hyper-V is a no-brainer IMO, particularly in Server 2016 on a predominantly Windows network.

I know you said it's working but does FreePBX not allow you to define a port range? Realistically you only need (I think it was) two ports per potential phone call. On our Avaya PBX I was able to restrict the ports down to just 20 odd which meant I wasn't punching a gigantic hole through the firewall, even if they were restricted to our Gamma and Avaya IPs.

You should be setting the RAM limits in the SQL Server config so this doesn't happen, though. I'm not sure why people would worry about this, so long as your VM infrastructure is sound there's no reason NOT to run SQL server in a VM. We ran an MDM using MS SQL Server with 10,000 client devices checking in at a previous job without local storage and there were no issues (apart from the SQL Server witness server being crap).
