Do you use it as a laptop, or as a HUD? (Although I didn't mention is in the first post, I'm also thinking about a large HUD for my car instead - digital speedo, sat nav, rss etc!)

I'm not sure if that why is for me or for James. If its for me, I want to be able to have large screen sat nav, large bank of audio (and video for passengers when on long drives) plus maybe a bit of geek activity if I had wireless connectivity - checking emails, browsing, streaming etc

Hi all, I've been meaning to post this question for a while... Do any fellow EduGeekers have an in-car PC setup? I've been thinking of doing something along these lines for quite some time, and it now seems the prices on the barenones single or double din units with motorised tft's are more realistic. I'm also slowly talking myself out of my original idea of a car "pc" and just getting one of the integrated units already set up (as in not running Windows etc) If anyone has already been here and done it all already, I'd be keen to hear recommendations and experiences.

I'm not aware of any other way, but if you want to progress offline on your VM you could always copy the contents of the CD to your VM? If you want reassurance, mine was done on a live system (in the knowledge I had decent backups just in case!) and it went fine - no issues at all. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Just to update my thread a bit - if anyone is wondering why I haven't done a final write up or summary, it is because I haven't actually finished! 2010 and 2003 co-exist perfectly with no issues at all. I have had several users running on 2010 for a couple of months and ironed out some of the minor issues + been testing hyper-v backups (as my E2010 installation is on Hyper-V). I hope to complete soon!

If I offended / wrongly-accused / misinterperated I am sorry. To clarify and generalise... People who de-value this community, regardless of who they are / how much they contribute / what position they hold should stop and consider why they came here in the first place. I see nothing wrong with consulting with eachother, having frank discussions on changes that need to be made and having aspirations for the product. It may not be our property but it is our resource and something we put time and effort in to. If that is all so unreasonable or unthinkable then perhaps I am either in the wrong place or just misguided!

No, I'm sorry - that is completely the wrong attitude to have! This place exists as a resource for thousands of like-minded individuals in similar roles. It has developed in to a community where we try and help each other - in some cases go out of our way to do so. The "ownership" of the site doesn't concern me (which is where this discussion usually goes!) - If Dos_Box ultimately decides to do something one way which I have a huge problem with then yes, it would influence my decision on whether or not to continue using it. The thing is, and I'm more than willing to be corrected by him, I would guess that Dos_Box doesn't want to make sweeping changes which have a negative impact on what EduGeek has evolved in to. To ensure that this doesn't happen, on largely non-critical issues, it makes sense to have the decency to ask or consult with the community which use (and in some cases support) the product which pays his salary... Call it what you will, but that would be more like a democracy than a dictatorship!

This is the type of thing which frustrates me here... 1) If a topic like this is up for discussion it should be "discussed" with members/supporters not behind closed doors. 2) If the subject is under discussion, i.e. no decision has been made, why are ad-hoc and biased actions being taken which are not being consistently applied? I don't blame ringofflame for feeling miffed. I think that is completely understandable. The initial post in this thread is also completely appropriate and doesn't deserve the disregard it has got from some replies.

I appear to have fixed the issue - through a mixture of trial and error + hours and hours of searching! I thought I would post here in case it saves anyone time in the future. The specific issue I was having was: When posting a hyperlink in a block / post on the Moodle front page the URL would appear to malform/redirect after a couple of minutes. This followed moving Moodle from IIS7 to Apache (something which we had done before without issue) Example: A link to http:// www. google. co. uk would work for about 2 minutes, but would then turn to http:// moodle. school. sch. uk %22 http:// www. google .co .uk%22 To fix the issue I made two changes. The first was to edit the php.ini - changing magic_quotes_gpc from On to Off. The second (which I think was coincidence more than fix, but I'll mention it anyway) was to go in to the block I was trying to add the link, highlight all text and click the two remove link buttons, then switch to html mode and erase all code/text. On re-making the text and hyperlinks I was able to confirm everything was working again. Hopefully this will save someone the hours of searching + trial and error approach I was forced to take!

I'll take any shot in the darks I can get! Unfortunately I'd already tired this and it didn't work. Essentially, I'm doing nothing new. I'm inserting hyperlinks to text in the same way I did when the site was running on IIS7. Now that the site runs on Apache I'm getting this strange effect after a couple of minutes of posting the link. Very odd Any one else?

No one? May have to switch back to IIS otherwise!

Hi All, I'm hoping someone can make sense of an issue we seem to have somehow developed. On the front page of our Moodle site, if we place a hyperlink in to the front page description block, the hyperlinks change after they are saved. Example. Link we make points to: EduGeek.net When you go back to the front page and click on the link it goes to http://moodle.school.lea.sch.ukhttp://edugeek.net and displays an apache error (as I guess you would expect from an address like that!) We have recently switched back to an Apache installation from an IIS one if that helps? Hopefully someone can point us in the right direction? It is very annoying!

I've always been interested in the communcations server products but never had the time to implement them. I'd be very keen to hear from anyone who has! It will save me from going in to the unknown alone!

I'm curious what the built in apps don't offer that you are looking for from OWA? What version of Exchange are you running? (OWA displays perfectly from Exchange 2010 on many devices including the iPhone)

Being that it is being posted on a forum of people who could more than likely build it themselves, I think you are in danger of being offended! I will be honest and say to me the most valuable commodities are the TFT and Graphics Card. To buy the lot second hand I probably wouldn't be interested in much over £400. On eBay you never know...

I'll be interested to read replies here. I have two magicnet screens and actually got so hacked off that I removed the magicnet software from the screens and just forced the ppt files to autostart when windows loaded! (Something to keep in mind if you don't have much luck?!)

I'm a bit perplexed if I'm honest. Having emailed back and forth several times over the weekend (which I was hugely suprised / happy about), I thought it would be a quick thing to tie up this week. If it isn't just me having trouble getting in touch - and the contact we're wanting to make is a pre-sale / sale contact, then I am wondering what aftersales and support might be like.

Not sure I understand the issue / question. Are you saying you can log on to the network, access any local intranet sites but just not access the Internet?
