Just to give a bit more background as most replies have been kindly detailed... We are considering changing our (largely inheritted) approach to filtering of Social Networking Sites, and were/are interested to hear from others having taken similar paths. I would rate my personal opinion as somewhere between neutral and positive. I can see the sense in considering unblocking, as education isn't gained from preventing experience. It also makes no sense that while we block access so tightly at school, we all largely accept that the majority of students go straight home and use the sites - largely safely and sensibly. Having controlled access in school at appropriate times would allow for education and an element of monitoring, as well as a cultivation of more mature use of what could be a useful resource. Going that way would obviously bring challenges, but only time would tell if the rewards were worth the effort. [edit - thanks to the previous two posters and your links - both demonstrating similar thinking and highlighting positive reports]

It lets you type any number to dial, but if it is a non-emergency number it won't route the call. I think only 999, 911 and 112 work on UK/US handsets. [edit - just read the post above - strange, mine doesn't allow any non-emergency call to be routed!]

I'm fairly sure there is an app somewhere in cydia for this. I can't remember the name which isn't very helpful, but I would have probably done a search for it using an obvious term. Not sure if thats helpful or not!

Hi All, Has anyone unblocked / unfiltered Social Networking Sites in their school for pupils to use? We are currently discussing the possibility, and I / we would be keen to hear your experiences! The theoretical pros and cons regarding this are fairly obvious, and while I'm happy for general discussion I'm specifically interested in experiences gained from those already having moved this way. I'd go (and have!) with Samsung. The N140 is the latest model I think - very similar to the N130 and NC10. Brilliant little machines and super long battery life.

Well. I can honestly say I've never had a more depressing, non-achieving, technically cr@p day! To any people reading this who may like the idea of doing it, but don't know much/anything about Linux - don't go trying to make SmoothWall work on Hyper-V. Save your sanity!

I don't want to be too negative as I know Claire is doing everything she can to help and get us going after talking about it for so long, but the whole Hyper-V thing is disappointing. The impression I'm getting so far is that there isn't much interest in developing a solution/product for Hyper-V?

As these posts were a couple of months ago, does anyone know if there is a permenant fix for this yet? I had the exact same problem, and like the OP don't want to change our virtualisation platform just for one product. Zerohour's code worked to get us to log in, but I'm still having fiddly issues. Smoothwall Technical Support seen unable (willing?) to help which is a bit disappointing. Hyper-V isn't going to go away anytime soon.

When you say across a group of schools, do you mean that you want to see descriptions FROM a selection of schools, or that you want to see a description for a Manager who looks after a group of schools?

While you are technically correct in saying that having a "PAT Test" isn't a legal requirement, what IS a legal requirement is the regular testing of all electronic equipment to ensure that it is safe for use etc. If a company doesn't ensure this then it is in line for fines and liability for claims when issues occur. When people refer to a PAT test they generally refer to a qualified electrician or specific "PAT tester" coming on site to do the testing for them, in effect taking the liability away from them. If a company employed a person to do this testing who wasn't appropriately qualified then the liability would still be with them.

Although I've managed to delegate this to others up to now, I do know that it is a legal requirement for the school to ensure PAT testing is done by a qualified engineer. Anyone without an appropriate qualification (i.e. simply being shown what to do) may do an adequate job, but faces a whole load of hassle and legal issues if anything is ever challenged. Ensure that they pay for your training/certification. Better still, delegate or refuse! (I agree with others - it's the most repetative boring job in the world. Only worth your while if you get to charge + bank something similar to the private companies!)

Well... I'm frustrated enough (through my own lack of knowledge + lack of Symantec help... and not supporting Hyper-V deployments!) to be hovering over the delete button of SCVMM! Seems a shame (and slightly odd) for Symantec not to support Hyper-V now that it is a viable alternative.

Still having the same issue even after a fresh install with Legacy Adapter specified. I've attached the error shown on screen. Any ideas?

Hi All, This is a bit of a long shot... Does anyone use Brightmail on Hyper-V? I've managed to get the VM image installed on it, and gone through all of the config, but it isn't picking up the network card. Unfortunately my knowledge of linux could fit on a stamp, so I'm not sure how i'd go about trying to get it to pick up the virtual network card drivers?! Can anyone help?

Hi Morgan, We are pretty much the same scenario described by DrCheese above. If we're talking a couple of machines in a misc room then we'll re-image and leave WSUS to do its business. (If we've gone a step further and physically brought the PC to our office or know the image is quite out of date, we'll force the updates) If we're talking a whole room re-image (which we tend to plan ahead and revolve over half terms) then we'll actually create a new base image to keep our image library up to date.

This page seems to suggest it does? Apache - MoodleDocs I've located httpd.conf which looks like the place I should be putting the code, but I have tried following the instructions and nothing has changed with regard to changes being reflected. As you can tell, apache/web back-end stuff aint my speciality lol.

Hi All, Hoping there is someone here with lots more Apache knowledge than me, as mine is next-to-none! Recently we've noticed that changes to Moodle (themes, files etc) are being made, but don't show up on screen for either a very long time, or ever! From searching, I am assuming it is the Apache Cache settings that need tweaking - however, I'm not too sure where to do all that stuff too! Can anyone help?

Hmmm... Fairly sure you go boot up, go to the magicnet interface on the tv itself, go to settings, options and then disable EWF. Hope that's right!
