To balance this post against ParentPay (which at this stage, I'm certainly not endorsing!), the product sounds to offer like-for-like features so is no different in that respect. Points 1 and 2 are covered by ParentPay. It also uses different bank accounts too. It's interesting to note that they say EasyTrace integration will be in there for Sep. When I asked the question to EasyTrace themselves they gave me a non-comitted answer (similar to 'planned to in the future if enough people want/need it') I'm planning on looking at WisePay in more detail as an alternative, as I've seen ParentPay and now also know that WisePay are already set up to work with EasyTrace.

@robk I got my first one for pure file storage, nothing too fancy. After playing around, the built in features such as file server, media station, ftp server, web server etc all worked really well. I now have about 4 of them dotted around the place for a mix of storage / feature requirements. My only minor complaint if QNAP end up reading this, is the media streaming 'site' could do with a bit of dev - accept more media types for conversion / speed up a bit. On prices, its probably fair to say they are priced towards the lower end of the market. As far as I'm concerned this has no relevance on features/reliability though. QNAP all the way for me, after trying many of the similar level ones. Feature packed devices, great prices - and to give EduGeek a bit of love, if I hadn't been skimming through threads here I would never have heard of them!

To answer my own question in a previous post (if it helps anyone), EasyTrace also works with Wise Pay at the moment. Apparently there are a couple of others on the horizon too.

Do any of these alternatives to ParentPay work seamlessly with EasyTrace? (If you have in-depth answers / advice I would welcome DM's as well as public replies, as I have a very urgent decision make... i.e. pretty much last week!! Still far from convinced that ParentPay is the 'right' option to make, though timescales may force my hand)

See, I had this kind of view on it too! It had survived a handful of small drops and come away completely unharmed - maybe it weakened the glass over time? The actual death drop came from having it in my shirt pocket, bending over and having it fall on a solid concrete floor - went to pick it up fully expecting it to me ok, but no such luck!

Don't suppose you have a link to the supplier? Just as a general update to those who helped suggested alternatives.... I've gone for the HTC Sensation. Should arrive tomorrow! It will either become my new love, or tide me over nicely until the iPhone 5!

I've read on some sites that the S2 DOES work with Proxy Servers, but only for native apps - do you know if this just means via their browser, or whether it is possible to get the built in email client working via proxy?

This looks like a potential contender, but a big consideration would be Proxy Settings.... have HTC/Android sorted that out yet? Can anything be done to the Sensation to allow it? (I remember that being one of the main reasons I sold on my HTC Hero. In Cornwall 3G reception isn't great in some areas, so it's a real advantage/requirement to be able to access via work wifi etc)

What Samsung handset would you be looking at? (Haven't even considered Samsung so far myself)

I didn't actually realise you could do that. Just looked on parts4ipods.com and it looks like they will do it as a service for about £99. Have you seen cheaper elsewhere? If I was to do this I would probably pay someone/a company to do it - I'm easily frustrated with small close up work like this!

I did a bit of digging around and there didn't appear to anything very recent, so I thought I would ask.... can you give me a suggestion for an alternative phone to the iPhone 4? Now, don't get me wrong - I loved this phone. I'm not an Apple fanboy by any means, but the phone just 'fit' me. That came to a bit of an abrupt end today - apparently iPhones don't like solid concrete floors... and fingers don't like shards of glass either! I'm quite likely to hold out now until the iPhone 5 rather than rush out and buy another iPhone 4, but in the mean time, I'm looking for a full time replacement - but can't decide between the many HTC Android handsets, a Windows Phone or something slightly more different - Dell Streak etc? I've previously used a HTC Hero, but didn't like the keyboard accuracy (or lack of). This is probably the main thing making me wary of HTC's. Have they moved on from that time now? Anyways, suggest away!

Out of that list I'd go for the TP-Link - I very nearly did at the time, but then decided I'd try the eBuyer ones as I was ordering some other stuff from them at the time. Curious btw... Is there a reason you're not wanting to go for the eBuyer ones I did - they're a whole 50p cheaper, unless you're saving on postage?

The minimum you need is two - one which connects directly to your router, and one which then connects to your first connected client. Once you have the one connected to the router, you can just add individuals as you neeed.

I've got loads of them at home as I'm too lazy to properly cable my house! The majority of them are plugged in to power extension leads and it's no problem at all - best thing I've ever purchased from eBuyer (and I've purchased a lot over the years!!)

Just for completeness, I was the one to negative rep. (I'm not one to 'hide', and perfectly happy to explain - though I think follow-on comments by other users have explained well enough - I agree with most.) Hi All, Are there any Flash/AS coders around here? I have a 5mb SWF file which started life as an Adobe After Effects video. I'd like to put the SWF in a web banner, but clearly due to size (which can't be compressed any more), really needs a preloader. Unfortunately I'm pretty average when it comes to Flash, and next to no use when it comes to Action Scripts in there. I've looked around for decent components that I could import and use to call an external SWF and load etc, but ideally I'd like something I could do inside of the same SWF file above. Everything along those lines I've seen on the net look so complicated. I'm hoping someone here might be able to provide me some code I could copy/paste and make it all work! (I appreciate it probably won't be that easy, but it can't be as awful as I've seen while searching!) Cheers

Yep, it is any of the following (and probably quite a few more!) - Microsoft Update, AV updates (Symantec Endpoint's live update was featuring heavily for me), iPlayer. Basically, if you see it, dont worry to much about it

@resin1 I have to admit I've read your reply a couple of times and not quite sure what you are asking! We use do use TWF and MCAS inside of a SIMS enviroment yes. In terms of API's, and I could be wrong (and happy to ask Bromcom the question if it interests anyone), I don't believe they are technically using any. SLG or any of the other SharePoint products all use API's / WebParts to communicate to and from SIMS. The Bromcom solution isn't built on SharePoint - it is a local IIS site with a backend SQL database. As far as I am aware, their database simpy syncs data from the SIMS database which then makes it available to TWF / MCAS. When teachers or parents access the system they go via https to the Bromcom hosted gateway, then their servers send requests down to our local Bromcom server (which is actually a VM now) and its own SQL database (rather than the 'SIMS' databse itself) returns appropriate information thought the secure connection. Again, the above is how I am fairly sure it works. If anyone wants more info, I'll happily give one of the technical team a shout so that they can come and correct me!

I use Bromcom Teachers' Web Folder and My Child At School - i was faced with a very similar comparison/decision which was fairly exhaustive by the end. Capita almost got the business via consortium pricing, but ultimately didn't get our cash. A big bonus for as at the time (due to staffing / in-house knowledge) was the fact that Bromcom isn't SharePoint based and Capita (and a lot of the other solutions out there) are. We had a few minor issues in the very early days but their support were fantastic. Now it just 'works' and I rarely get complaints/support requests from staff.
