  1. All users take the form of: Year of Entry + Surname + '.' + initial 12Smith.J Then everyones password is set as password - the kids in Year 7 I don't think are clever enough to change other passwords of students in their year group. All students logon for the first time in their ICT lessons in the first week and are prompted to change their password to something new - any password 'issues' we have in the first couple of weeks are generally after they have changed the initial default password to something else which they forget!
  2. Not necessary a problem, but how many people are finding the What's New? tab giving strange results. I tend to check Edugeek daily generally when I get home from work and i've had a few instances where only 3 or 4 posts show within a 24 hour period. For example I've just logged on now for the first time since Friday and i've had 3 new posts to read - I tried the Todays posts search and I had 2 pages to of posts to read. Im interested in if this is happening to others or just me. Thanks
  3. 29th - 3rd in Durham
  4. Yep, all CTF's have been entered and all ready to go. I think this is the earliest we've ever got our end of year procedures all sorted.
  5. When they dont appear for me, just press the refresh option on the management console or a log off / back on of the management console also make it appear too.
  6. We put the short throw epsons in - not the interactive one but one thing to keep in mind if you are hoping to transmit the image via the network, when playing videos etc they appear quite laggy. The money I thought I would save going down the short throw route was spent in the end having to buy cat5 to VGA convertors!
  7. We had a Vivo miles demo and even though I liked the look of the product the price put us off. We are looking at developing something in-house instead.
  8. This is ours but it appears bust due to amount of rain we've had! St. Bede's Catholic School and Sixth Form College Here are some pics of what we have had to contend with. Home / Flash Flooding - June 2012 | St. Bede's Catholic School and Sixth Form College Gallery
  9. Our Site Manager uses this for his cleaning staff, BioTime: the advantages of biometric time attendance for those that didn't want to record their fingerprints or it didn't work they were given a PIN number for signing in and out. I think it was around £500 to purchase. Up to now it works well and helps him put together the time sheets of his staff.
  10. We've had it pretty bad up here in Durham too. Infact our school is closed tomorrow.
  11. I've just ordered a Macbook air via this very method and I wasn't asked to provide any ID or reference to working in education, other than I used my school .sch.uk e-mail address - I wonder if this automatically went through because of it.
  12. We quite often do short cable runs ourselves but the majority are done by external contractors. They can probably do a better job than us in a quicker time allowing us to carryout other tasks during the holiday period. In the end it probably comes cost neautral if you have other tasks to do.
  13. We looked at it but our finance lot preferred to go with SAGE 200. We were SIMS FMS originally. We converted to an academy on the 1st June, and the finance staff like some of the features of SAGE 200, but I think they still miss the functionality of FMS. I think this is just a preference as they have used FMS for years - I am sure after a few months FMS will be forgotten about.
  14. Great news - looking forward to having a play with the latest release soon.
  15. We currently use Kaspersky but when the contract expires we will move to Forefront as part of our EES.
  16. We created a fresh Windows Server 2008 R2 VM install and installed Sage. This was the initial setup and non a migration as this was a new install completely. No issues running on a VM for us.
  17. Hate the lot of them if im honest. We've gone full circle and now have a policy of not buying them and just using a fixed ceiling mounted projector onto the white wall - much bigger projected image.
  18. We are looking at rebranding our whole stationary and these do some pretty nice websites too. Specialists creative design, branding & marketing for the education sector. - Cleverbox
  19. Help Desk Software, Live Chat Software and Customer Service Software - not cheap or free like spiceworks but it works for us.
  20. They are part of the domain but are not setup as member servers, so we haven't bought CC4 server licences.
  21. We have SLG hosted and CC4 here and had SLG and CC3 before this. 1. Sharepoint and SQL are on two seperate virtualised servers. 2. Consolidation works well and other than a few webpart issues (no CCx) related have worked for 4+ years. 3. No interferance at all, i don't see how it can seperate OU etc for SLG users away from the standrd CCx users keeps everything seperate.
  22. Our students fetch their own in and is classed as part of essential equipment they need such as a pen, pencil, ruler etc.
  23. We also see this here too - hoping 3.5 fixes it.

  25. I'll be coming along as the sole NE representative this year I believe.
