Last weekend of gaming!!! Got to get the last 20% of Sleeping Dogs out the way before the postie arrives on Tuesday How much are 360's these days? You can pick up a new PS3 Super Slim (12Gb) for about £140 now. Atleast that's what I paid a couple of weeks back. That said, I have a feeling the game is too big to install on a 12Gb drive, mmmm. Cash Convertors where doing second hand PS3's as low as £80 when I was looking (my old fat PS3 finally overheated). The super slim is very, very quiet - much improvement over previous models.

I think the issue you will have is the system drive. Windows can be abit funny trying to repartition that. I believe 08R2 and above can actually do it now using built in tools. Partition Magic would do it. Another favourite is to make a temporary copy of the VMDK (incase anything goes wrong) and use a Linux installer to shrink the existing Windows partition. Or a Clonezilla image to a smaller VMDK. Personally I'd shrink the existing VMDK (VMadmin.co.uk - How to Resize a VMs Virtual Disk (.VMDK)) and then attach a second expanding VMDK for the new partition. This why I always using expaning images rather than fixed. The joys of virtualisation.

You want to partition the virtual hard drive or the host hardrive the VM is sitting on? If it's the virtual drive is it fixed size or expanding? Not sure that matters to much, but especially if it's an expanding, I wouldn't bother personally. Just create a new virtual hard drive and attach it to the VM as a second drive.

I'm sure I've asked this before but am struggling to find the answers again... Does anyone here use any online system to manage year 9 option choices? We want students/parents to be able to log in from home and select their options using an online form and then have a program take the results and build the best possible option block groupings. Any ideas? Thanks

If you haven't seen it yet, this site is pretty essential for selecting the right projector: Projection Calculator Classic - Throw Distance and Screen Size

No and Yes... No, there's no auto upgrade rights for Server OS in EES. In fact they are not included in EES as standard. Yes, you can buy Server OS licences under EES (but may work out cheaper getting normal volume licenses). MS don't sell server upgrades to the best of my knoweldge. Whatever license agreement you buy under it's always the full product. It's only desktop Windows that is sold as an upgrade and requires either full retail or OEM versions already on the machine. Remember with EES you have to pay the subscription each year. If you're not planning to upagrade the server OS every 3 years then Select licensing is usually cheaper.

Best advice yet - for a PC gamer.

It's one of those things, if you are going to do it, it's better doing it now rather than later. The games are mostly only available for a month at a time - but once you've got them they're yours to keep (unless you cancel the subscription). Since you don't know what they are going to give away when, and it's only £40 per year, it's better to have the subscription and just stack the games until you're ready to play them. No need to download, just make sure they're marked as purchased in the store before the month is up. It's what I do on the PS3, works a treat. I've got Hitman Absolution from around last christmas that I'm unikely to play until this time next year the way things are going...

If it helps any, I use 8hr timestamps and scavaging. Means we always start with fresh DHCP at the start of each school day

Vita's far from dead in the water. They've just released new models, Vita TV, the link with PS4, free games on PS+ and the prospect of future GaiKai streaming. If you have PS3/4 or plans to get one the Vita is the way to go. Other wise... don't know, never used either personally (not a fan of mobile gaming - prefer the big screen).
-
There's usually 1 AAA title and 1-2 indie titles each month for each platform. Usually theres also a crossplay title that works on both PS3 and Vita. Not a bad deal really. I don't keep up with the Vita side so not really sure what this months givaways are. On the PS3 side though I've had a fare number of exceptional titles I'm still working my way through. This months AC:III is the first title to be released that I already owned!

Under the "Routines" menu in SIMS.net you should have a "Active Directory Provisioning" sub menu, from there you can select the users you want to provision. The ADPS server needs to run a scheduled task before the new users will work, you can manually run this from Scheduled Tasks on the ADPS server. Once that has been run you should have a report in SIMS reports that will print off usernames and associated passwords.

Xperia Play + 4G + Gaikai?
-
I disagree, that's an over-hyped party trick. As soon as you realise that only 1 device can play PS4 games at a time you kinda wonder what all the fuss is about. But then asking two devices to play at once (unless it's the same game) might be a bit taxing on the PS4 hardware. No the "killer app" is GaiKai. Once you can stream PS1/2/3/4/PSP/Vita games to it then you have a cheap entry into console gaming with the upsell to PS4 when you get tired of buffering. This is what hurts Nintendo as it's effectively the Wii-U's price point and Virtual Console market.

Ouch! http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-09-09-sony-announces-playstation-vita-tv-device Looks like Sony are leaving nowhere for Nintendo to go!

I'm tempted to play devil's advocate and ask - capacity for what? Bringing workers from up north to jobs in the south? Surely that's a sign that more needs to be done attracting investment in the north rather than paying to ferry people around? I can't see a high speed train line to Leeds convincing big business it's the right place to relocate their HQ to. Edit: we have a similar infrastructure thing going on locally. A northern bypass for Norwich. Actually that's the wrong word for it, it stops short of it's destination by a mile or so and in doing so defeats it purpose. I just can't see why anyone would use the current proposed route?!?

The Government will keep its fingers in its ears and plough on through! Really, they should scrap it and invest the money in social housing. That, I think, will have a greater effect on the UK economy. Jobs, affordable mortgages, scrap the bedroom tax on the poor, etc.

Same way they always have... Spooks break most Internet crypto, but how? | Ars Technica I wonder if we can get our friends at Smoothwall to deny they've been paid off by MI5 to include a backdoor for them in their software?

If we we're to go on Nolan's experience his advice to Nintendo would be "don't sell out to Warner Bros" Actually though, I do agree with him. All my necies and nephews use smartphones instead of dedicated hand-helds. 2-3 years ago they all add DS's. My smartphone has replaced a very long list of seperate portable gadgetry. Not sure what canbe done about Nintendo to be honest. They seem to be beating the ranch on the next Mario or Zelda and I can't see that paying off for them any more. They need to get back to basics and offer a gaming experience the others can't compete with. As someone who suffers from motion sickness, I really can't agree with this. Probably the biggest reason I don't play FPS's.

Threw me a bit, interesting choice of theme, very retro Not sure I like the whole Notepad style posts though. Lack of formating makes it a bit tough to read Interesting stuff though, I'll give it a proper read when I get more time.
-
Funny thing is, I think touch/second screens are going to be big next gen. Both Sony and MS have their smartphone apps that do the same thing. Ubisoft are showing off some interesting stuff in both WatchDogs and The Division.

I'm not so convinced. OnLive was technically impressive but it did quiet aplty show off the technical difficulties of streaming games, especially during peak hours. I think, like the desktop PC, there will alway be a need for a dedicated gaming device. It just, like the PC, going to have a tougher time justifying it's exitance next to mobile wireless devices. Over the next 4-5 years I'd expect to see the PC market consolidate around 3-4 big players like Lenovo and Acer, rather than loads of PC manufacturers. Similarly I'm not sure the market exists any more for 3 games console. Someones gonna bow out this generation, not 100% sure it will be Nintendo - but they do seem the most likely. As for integrating into the TV, that's not so easy. Meny have tried and failed. The XBox One is an interesting shot a breaking through Cable and Satelite operators feefdoms. Google tried and failed, and are trying again. Apple might be the closest yet but the AppleTV isn't exactly a mass-market device. It actually surprises me that TV's are still built with built in tuners or Smart TV functions, more and more they seem to be just glorified oversized PC monitors with 4-5 PC like devices hanging off their HDMI ports.

Actually the GameCube was a pretty well spec'd console also, better CPU/GPU than PS2. What scuppered both N64 and GameCube was Nintendo's choice of Media. The Wii was a bit of a marketing master stroke and it appear's they perhaps where trying to do the same again with the Wii-U, possible without fully understanding what had gone so right the first time.

So you dont need a Dwarf with a level 5 Axe then No fair, I'll have an incompatibility spell cast on your hardware! (Bloody Minotaurs have all the fun!)
-
Do you need a beta tester? The problem is there is nothing the Wii U offers that the 360+Kinnect+Smartglass or PS3+Move doesn't already offer. It's not that much of an upgrade from Wii+MotionPlus. Without compelling 1st party titles why buy? I'm not sure Nintendo titles on their own are good enough any more. I've think they've flogged Mario and Donkey Kong to death. They should never have let Square Enix or Rare get away.
