  1. I have a readynas and can highly recommend it. A HP microserver (I think the £100 cashback is still valid on the new model) and installing freenas on it may be another option to consider.
  2. the current model at the time of the original post has been discontinued, but they are bringing out another one with a lower spec PSU and a 250gb HDD (according to techhead.co.uk). I'd imagine that the part code will be different as well which means that you wouldn't get the £100 cashback unless HP change the promotion details.
  3. IIRC, Centos is distro which is based on red hat. Maybe worth a try?

  5. I've never used it with just 1 nic, but I can't see why it wouldn't work (although as above, you wouldn't be able to use the transparent proxy feature). I have had Smoothwall Express (3) with dansguardian/advanced proxy and several other services all running fine on a P3 with 384mb ram in the past.
  6. Smoothwall Express with the dansgaurdian/advanced p r 0 x y addon? Express Open Source Firewall Project K9 web protection? Smoothwall requires a computer to run on (and will filter traffic from any device connected to the network on which the SW box is located), but k9 will only run on the computers and not the ipods. The ipod touch has parental controls as well - iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch: Understanding Restrictions but these cannot filter websites accessed by the safari browser.
  7. Have you tried changing the channel that the router's wireless network broadcasts on?
  8. You can also extend the trial of server 2008 to 240 days. IIRC it also works on 2008R2 (and W7) as well. How to extend the Windows Server 2008 evaluation period I also agree that learning server 2000 would be pointless too seeing as most places I've visited tend to use 2003/XP and newer.
  9. it can run esxi: Running VMware vSphere on an HP MicroServer | TechHead.co.uk running smoothwall express 3 may be hit & miss depending on hardware compatibility, but SWE should run fine within esxi (however i haven't tested it)
  10. I've been looking at getting one of these servers due to the size and price (with hp's £100 cashback offer), but the CPU is putting me off it as i'd like to run esxi or xenserver on it. Other than the ML110 G6 which has a few issues with the disk controller & ESXi (don't really want to buy another expansion card though), are there any servers that are equivalent to the ml115 or is the microserver the best bet for a smallish and cheap (<= £250) server?

  12. They do have VMware Player which I think does have USB support and VMware Server (both are free but require a registration to obtain the download links). I use VMware Player at home (and did use server before they messed around with the management console and made it web based) VMware Player: Run Windows 7, Chrome OS - Free Download for a Virtual PC
  13. Fine for me now (although I'm using my home connection with no proxy though)
  14. Exactly. I think it could possibly be some marketing stunt.

  16. Checked the firewall(s) to make sure they aren't blocking anything? Are the proxy details correct?

  23. try installing libhtml-template-perl libdbi-perl manually from the following links: Debian -- Details of package libhtml-template-perl in lenny Debian -- Details of package libdbi-perl in lenny (make sure you download the i386 version if your debian VM is 32bit or amd64 if the debian install is 64bit) Once you have have manually installed the two packages, try installing fog again If you still can't get fog to install (because of mysql not installing all the dependencies), try the suggestion in this thread here: Debian User Forums • View topic - MySQL Installation Error - libdbi
