Them where the days. Spent a few years involved with The Arm Club, committee member for 2 or 3. Ran a BBS for about 3 years (The Sidings BBS), firstly on my 4MB A310, then upgrade to a 610 RiscPC, then StrongArm.. Loved doing the shows, especially when they ended up being on back to back weekends.

I have been told when we did ours, that My decisions only have consequences for myself, and the 2 technicians I line manage... "Right, Andrews not here... so I think its okay to turn off the servers until 8am when he starts....can't think of any reason why not..."

I have one of these, they are very nice. I however, having used a USB drive for a while, setup a FreeNas box out the way to store all my Films and TV Series. At that price, thought, tempted to get another for a 2nd room... (just in case!) Gary

We have just been "done" with GLEA I'm the Snr technician (no official network manager job here), and I have come out on 444pts, Scale 5 We are a 1600 pupil school, 650 Desktops & 250 Laptops, I'm not surprised at the fact nothing has changed, but still had a glimer of hope I would get moved to a Scale 6 (462pts!) Anyone else here been done on the GLEA scheme? Gary

I have been asked to attend a meeting tomorrow about printing costs etc... So did a quick report on PCount... since Sept '09, 85542 (staff room alone is nearly 10k!) Been trying to get the school to change the funding for prinitng for ages, as the IT dept is paying for 2/3 of it. Gary

Right, sorted emails, and getting failure emails coming through. However, got an odd one... Set a sensor on C: of a server to 10% (also tried with 5%), the actual free space is 13%, but I'm still getting space lower than 10% notifications.... Weird

Is there feature in to test your email settings? We have aspemail on the webserver (for a helpdesk) which works, but with the same settings, getting no emails through (have a sensor on a printer that isnt working) Gary

Which method did you use to connect to your Exchange server? Gary

Hi Have you looked under Site Administration/Users/Permissions/Define Roles? There is options to remove the abilty of each group to view profiles etc. This could stop them looking at other pupils and teachers profiles to gain email addresses etc. Gary

I like the "its a free upgrade, however you need a new server..." so its not really free then is it... Gary

Living in a Nottingham, abit of war-driving around student-ville, and you get some great ones.... Such as "upforfunnurses" Its the not so clever ones that are named after the house number and street name, eg 27SmithSt Why!!!! Gary

Apart from getting shot (only joking!) Wollaton Park is good for a walk, Deer, "lake" etc Plenty of Pubs in the centre, but Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is a must for all drinkers!, just down the road from the Castle. There are not really any Zoo's, mainly places such as parks (old stately homes) such as Rufford & Clumber Are you staying in Notts? Know the area much? Gary

We moved recently as our office was at 75db, air con was kicking out at about 18oc to keep the servers at about 28 Much better now, just got the hum of our workstations and a single (new) 3com switch. Gary

The container would :-) I think for the time it took for mine, 2 weeks or so, its prob worth the effort. Then at least you have some official permission if the locals have issues.

I had to get it to install a pre-fab garage. Even though it is still classified as "temporary" building, the height of it determined I had to. However, while investigating this (about 5 years ago now), I also found, that technically, a shed, green house, fence beyond the front of the house (eg front garden) and a sky dish, all need written planning permission!! It was just a standard form from the Council, not payment required etc.

We are (slowly) going down the route of Sims Learning Gateway. The system "works" as it should, but find the consolidation of the Sims/AD accounts the only really "inset" issue. Had a few members of staff use from home to do reports, which they seemed to like, as they previously couldn't since moving from Bromcom to Sims.net The is more of a push this year (Year 2) to get parents connected to have the abilty (if the want to!) to get attendance and report data.
