  1. We had that last year. Got a call from Head of Art, asked if I could have a look at the remain of their HP. Went over, and fuser and molt bits on it, and the smell of burning. She said she was only aware, when she heard her door slam, spun around to see one of the girls running away crying, and saw the smoke rising from the printer! She had put through a sheet of acetate.. needless to say, cost a few pennies to repair.
  2. We are always getting alarms for Rogue AP's, that when checked via "Rogue AP locator" (or whatever its called), its always in the homes that are close to the school grounds. We have thought about settings some of the AP's into counter-measure mode, but think its not quite needed atm.
  3. You can (depending on how well the map was done) get a rough idea where the device is in respect to the school map. Our map was only a bmp rather than a scaled full on diagram, so can be abit off at times. I'm with plexer. We had (on old wireless) a member of staff plugged in there own AP.. and students was using that to connect there PSP's etc.
  4. I suspect, unless the machine is built as a laptop type, you wont get Offline folders, and being disconnected means the machine has no My Documents folder for Adobe to reference to. Is it a laptop or desktop you have disconnected? If its a desktop, you could either build as a laptop, or you might be able to create a custom type to also allow offline folders. Within a custom type, the section "Microsoft Offline File" will let you enable it on that type.
  5. We have this with teacher laptops. We found that they need the "My Settings" folder made available offline for Adobe Reader to work disconnected. Gary
  6. "The question is this: Given that God is infinite, and that the universe is also infinite... would you like a tan?"
  7. Yep, same here. I did try and email EdIT over the weekend from my gmail account... and that has been bounced also.
  8. Luckily...... (wheres that block of wood to touch), the changeover has gone okay bar the email issue. Could have been worse, I had to take last week off, and there was only other support in Monday and Tuesday. He was left with a list of bits to change on the system, but wasnt going to be around the rest of the week to solve an direct issues. I did a remote connection on Thursday once I realised email wasnt working, and realised I forgot to leave instructions to change the Last Rule webchain setting on ISA, so at that point, no web-browsing was working. Normally would have been okay.. but this week we have Ofsted in, "luckily" (but not for all) it is "only" a Subject inspection. There was abit of panic for management that they couldnt email out (from school email), but I was happy they trusted my view that it was an issue out of our control. Just a shame it took until yesterday for EdIT to pass on Synetrix, having emailed them (via GMail) last week... Oh well, we live and learn. As I said, could have been for worse.
  9. Our school decided not to go with the LEA's J.E. not many (1 know of 2) got a change. Hopefully you will all get a good outcome.
  10. All working, once EdIT passed onto Synetrix, it was running within the hour. Misconfiguration on a Mail Marshall rule.
  11. Many hours of my life disappeared to playing Blackhawk Down online, only stopped after breaking a leg on holiday, meaning I couldnt actually get to my PC for 4 months. Once I could get back to playing, I had lost the need.
  12. Same here, we are going over to this soon. Anything we need to be aware of?
  13. Its seems to be all external addresses (tried gmail, hotmail, a few suppliers). The helpdesk one was just the last one I tried (to see if County addresses worked)
  14. Seems fine for use via FTP and PLESK is fine.
  15. Yep, that got changed on Monday/Tuesday last week. (Its now relay.nottscc.gov.uk) Emails are bouncing back with Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. Subject: Test email Sent: 28/02/2011 11:03 The following recipient(s) cannot be reached: [email protected] on 28/02/2011 11:06 There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator. Relaying denied>
  16. Hi Has anyone gone through this over the holidays, and it any problems with Site Hosted Exchange servers? We can currently email internally (the least I would expect :-)), receive external email, but are unable to send external email. We get a "Relaying Denied" bounce back.
  17. Tend to only drink if its in the same glass as a triple of Jager...... ;-)

    Ergo?

We had a monitor fail, was swapped out next day. We also have had the power controller on the desk fail (power daisychains through desk). This was also done within 24hrs. The ongoing problem we have, isnt Ergos fault, and thats becasuse of the daisychained power, all the data and power goes back to 2 or 3 places in each room. However the data and power cable installers the school used, didnt put in the best place. With this, pupils have been pulling out data cables ect. Something that will be addressed better in new rooms, maybe behind a removal vanity panel on some of the desks.

    Ergo?

We have been using Ergo since the summer as a replacement to buy RM hardware for classroom desktops and staff laptops. Initial indications have been very good, and an issues we have had have been dealt with prompty. We are again this summer looking at refreshing a couple of old IT suites with Ergo Desking (fixed monitor). For those with RM networks, current models of desktops build fine (we have just created driver packages for the GFX and SFX) aswell as the Engage 141 laptops (install Wifi by package - so not to cause issues with RMBuild areas) Staff that have had the Engage laptops, having gone through a couple of phases of RM (Compal based) laptops have been impressed on the Ergo models.
  20. We are now (it seems) going to be open as normal (Easter Holidays) on that date, as the school plan to shift the "Bank Holiday" to a date in July so the teachers can have an extra day to the summer holidays. I have booked the whole week off (Week on Angelsey), so will now after book the Friday off. Luckily its early enough in the year not to be a problem.
  21. Just had our router changed over. As we had space in the cab for the new router, it was installed along side the existing system. It was then just a case of swapping the cable over. As things stand, its working. Speedtest giving us 45MB download and 25MB upload. Gary
