Yep. I would second Moodle. In fact the main open source qualifications (INGOTS) are already handled through Moodle. And all the course materials are freely availalbe. From memory it costs about £2 per pupil up to Gold level, but I may be wrong!

I just use UltraVNC. It's free and works pretty well. If you want an interface for teaching staff to use UltraVNC through, then Kaboodle works pretty well. The only thing that solution doesn't do is allow you to monitor an entire room for misdemenours - but my rooms are set up 'back to front' so the teachers desk faces the computer screens anyhow. IMHO I've found that although entire classroom monitoring is stated by ICT teachers as a 'desirable' feature, it is rarely used. We mostly use UltraVNC for remote staff support rather than pupil support. Teachers have it available, but normally walk the 5 feet or so to give direct assistance.

To call oneself a web developer it is not mandatory to have done any courses. A portfolio of substantive successful projects is required however. I don't just mean 5 or 6 page websites for local companies - I mean successful web designs and database driven websites such as e-commerce or CMS. It is necessary to display a range of experience - php, css, flash, etc.

TMCD - I would agree with you. I would rather take on someone with not so many qualifications. I have found that folk with a plethora of qualifications think they know how to do the job - not the same in real life as in the classroom. That's not saying that everyone is like that - it's just my experience of folk I've taken on with too many tekky quals and little work experience.

Sounds like pretty much a consultancy company who specialises in data warehousing and knowledge management. From what it says about the job, it sounds like a cross between sales support and internal IT support - I would, as you say, expect the bottom end of that salary range if you have no experience. CRM=customer relationship management - this is usually used to log facts about customers and potential customers, but they may well also be using it as a basic helpdesk so that there is an easily accessible history of faults per customer. I would be asking questions such as how many technical personnel does the organisation have, and how many in a role such as this.

Wayhay!! The PC is sending an image to the FOG server now, but boy is it slow. Looks like about 2.5-3hours to image 35Gb written data on a 75Gb disk....is this normal?

Yep - that's the error message. Walking from the room to my console I forgot exactly what it said. I'll have a go at what you suggest after the pc in question is finished a chkdsk!

Yep. Got it working now, and attempting to capture an XP image and write it back to the same PC. It's failing though - saying that the block size on the ntfs volume isn't supported yet. Has anybody successfully imaged XP un-sysprepped?

Hi there, Thanks for replying Cool - I've tried that, and no joy. It runs through and then says 'boot from Network, Disk or Quit. If I try to boot from Network, then it just goes through the same cycle. Baffled!

Those who have got the pxe chainloading working, or who have more knowledge of pxe than me, please help me!! I've got the clients pxe booting, but then get the message 'Boot from Network Disk or Quit'. I'm assuming that it's not going on to the second DHCP request properly and loading pxelinux.0, but I've set it up as per the FAQ and am completely stuck. As I've never seen FOG work, I don't know what it's meant to look like, so don't quite know which part of the boot process I'm stuck at!!!

Phill - Is that wholely SLG installations, or does it include Kaleidos (it using the webparts)?

I buy mine from a company called Datacable in Yorkshire. They do both CPU hangers, all metal with a slidy bit so it accommodates different size pc's, and what I call the 'veg basket' - a coated wire mesh holder which holds the Pc horizontally under the bench surface. I seem to recall they cost about £36.00. Speak to Martin there and mention Amanda from Standish Community High and they might discount a bit. I also buy port plates (USB & sound) from them which fit to the top of the desk, so the little darlings have no excuse to touch the PC at all (I've disabled the front USB)

Hi Rabbie, Yes it is. Local drives can be made available in the Terminal Service session - just define your TS RAP to allow it. Don't know if you're thinking of using web access or terminal services client, but if you are using the client, don't do what I did & get deeply frustrated because local drives were not showing - I hadn't ticked the box in the client to allow it

I used Kaboodle for a while with the teaching staff - you can arrange pc's into rooms in a graphical format. They can then VNC in by clicking on the picture. Some found it useful for keeping an eye on the 'trouble makers'.

OK. I've read lots now about .pst files etc., and I'm getting convinced that I'm stuck with just running OWA. Anyone got any different info??

My understanding of XP licencing is if the hardware is replaced or substantially altered from the PC that the original licence was attached to, a new XP licence is required. Am I misguided in this?
