  1. The vacancy will initially be based at a site in Chorley, moving to the Nelson area in 12 months time. Excellent opportunity for an ambitious self-starter! 2. I'm a little late on this, but easiest way I found to remove all drive mappings is: Set clDrives = WshNetwork.EnumNetworkDrives For i = 0 to clDrives.Count -1 Step 2 WSHNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive clDrives.Item(i), True, True Next
  3. Sorted! It's where I had put a / on the end of the path e.g. \\ncc-Shared-Space.melson.ac.uk\shared$\COMMON\ If I knock the "\" off the end of the path, all works
  4. Also, when I try to download an object, I get: Server Error in '/HAP' Application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Object reference not set to an instance of an object. 5. Last one, hopefully! Drives are now displaying, but when the user accesses a folder, the error "The given key was not present in the dictionary." is displayed and the root of the drive is redisplayed under the folder......
  6. Brill Thanks for your help nick!
  7. Brill That's sorted it! Just a quick additional question if I may - Staff and Students are in two different OU's here, which are off the domain root. I've pointed HAP+ at the Staff OU - do I need a separate instance of HAP+ to point to the Students OU to provide them access?
  8. Hi Nick, Here's what's there at the moment: %homedir% \\ncc-SharedSpace.home.nelson.ac.uk\shared$\COMMON\ I've tried with \ at the end of UNC paths, no \, I've tried changing Writechecks="False"
  9. Yeah, I got that too, but after a server reboot, it seemed ok. Don't know whether the process of mapping the AD bit to an alternate domain had anything to do with it, as that was the last thing I did prior to the server reboot.
  10. Just as an Update, when going into MyFiles, the menu bar at the top of the page flashes up, then disappears. I can also see a 'file upload' box flashing up before disappearing in the bottom left hand corner - just mentioning in case it gives any clues!
  11. Hi folks, I've a fresh install of HAP 8.7 on Server 2008R2. All looks good and can log in, but whatever mappings I list in 'my files', I can't get anything to show! The screen doesn't distort, nor does the little wheel spin for ages, it just turns from a > arrow into a V arrow and nothing seems to appear Here's the checks so far: Pipeline - ticked Services - ticked App Data - ticked Navigate to https://localhost/hap/api/setup and get result Service Endpoint not found. Navigate to https://localhost/hap/api/test and get result OK Can't clear the Red X on AD, but users seem to log in ok (I'm just doing staff - as staff and students are in different groups and OU's, I'm guessing I can't do both?) I'm new to this app and IIS under 2008, so please help! Thanks

  13. I haven't received my ticket yet....is there a bouncer on the door taking names? Is it Meat Loaf?
  14. Testing post - sent two neither appeared!!
  15. Hey guys, Should I have received a ticket or something? Or is it give name on the door .... if so who's acting as the bouncer? Is it Meat Loaf?
  16. Our teaching staff use Quizdom (got about 150 handsets!), and it's now not too bad to set up. You have to run the software as Admin after install, and install the driver as admin, but after that restricted users run fine. I'm not certain what you mean about 'integrating with the Smartboard software', but the board stays interactive if that's what you mean. All Actionpoint is really is a toolbar in Powerpoint, and the teacher just creates a Powerpoint quiz. Downside is that they have to have to make it a quiz using the Actionpoint toolbar with the Actionpoint driver activated - i.e. with the receiver plugged in. So, they can do the majority of the work at home, with a bit of fiddling on a free in a classroom. Overall, it's not the worst system I've seen, but it's not the best.
  17. Try the N+ - not such a quick fix as a 5 day course, but certainly more comprehensive. Don't be put off applying for jobs which state this - my current technician had very little/no server experience, but his hardware/cabling/etc. skills were excellent, and I figured that I could train him up in the rest. A basic knowledge of how networks are put together (switches vs hubs, patching, etc.), a knowledge of 'mapped drives', and an understanding of tcp/ip should cover an entry level position. I would imagine, dependant upon salary, that they are not looking for you to come in and restructure AD. Get a copy of server2003 on a virtual pc and have a play around with it.

I use Spiceworks and it pretty much ticks all the boxes for problem management and change management (amongst others). Best of all, it's free.
  19. Might be fluke, might not be, but ran each 2003 app as local administrative user, then copied that users profile to default user. Don't get the prob any more (which was especially bad when running word).
  20. You'll know if it's a driver problem if there's a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark next to the card in device manager. Right-click on 'My Computer', then click 'Manage'. Expand the device manager bit. Look for the card & if there's a problem indicated, you probably need to reinstall the driver. You can normally download it from the laptop manufacturers website.
  21. Hi Gareth, To the initiated, this is not as scary as it sounds and it acts as a driver to improve services. I collate an annual survey asking just what you want, amongst other things. Basically, I've taken the elements of the ICT Mark and turned it into questionnaire form - this covers more than just technical support. It also covers teaching and learning resources, confidence of teachers in using technology, CPD, leadership & management of technology, ICT vision, as well as the more basic technical support element of things. To take technical support in isolation is probably skewing the vision, as it depends upon a lot of factors. For example, if not enough focus is placed on CPD in enabling the staff to become e-confident, then this has a serious knock-on effect for technical support - e.g. more requests for 'PICNIC' faults (Problem in Chair, not in Computer), which wastes tech support time leading to longer fix times and all round dissatisfaction. I can give a thousand other examples! The elements which you are interested in as stated in your post are as follows: (all are rated from 1 to 4 on Ofsted-like scale, with 1 being outstanding, 2 good, 3 satisfactory, 4 unsatisfactory) - Availability of ICT resources within the school - Reliability of ICT resources within the school - Quality of technical support - Response of technical support I would say, though, is that what you really want to find out is whether you have the right resources in the right place, are they of the right quality, and have you employed folk of sufficient technical skill to look after them (in terms purely of tech support). However, I think you'll find, given a bit of reflection, that tech support is only a small part of the picture....... What's scarier to folks is my desire to create 'end of module' questionnaires where pupils can feed back what they liked about the module, what they thought of the teaching and learning, and how the module could be taught better........
  22. Just install it yourself - I did & I'm no SIMS expert. It's just like installing a standard upgrade, only for us it didn't come down on SOLUS as we only get what is authorised by the LEA. Saves a grand.
  23. I would imaging this would be a good option for a young person rather than doing a level 1 at college and getting £30 EMA for it. There aren't enough apprenticeships around, so don't cast apersions!!
  24. If it's any help we record pupil progress on a monthly (or so) basis in Assessment Manager in SIMS. We are piloting Gradebook in Moodle with some departments with success, and these teachers are beginning to rely on this as a method of APP. At the moment, these results aren't fed into AM, but it would be ideal if they were (damn capita and their 'read only'). Online reporting to parent is currently handled through SIMS Learning Gateway portal, but this, in my view, is not ideal. At my school I would rather see reporting to parents handled through Moodle, where the parent could have a more complete view of homework set, behaviour, attendance, etc. with one login. To be honest, I think that this area is being held back by the 'educationalists' who think they know what they are doing, but this is proving not to be the case. We have separate applications for separate levels of reporting, when what should be developed is an integrated solution. However, the educationalists don't seem to 'get it' when such a global solution is described. This, unfortunately, would really have to be specified on a school to school basis as each have their different focusses and different systems, so a panacea is not inevitable.
  25. You could always turn it into an e-book - you know the flippy pages like Computer weekly. Theres some freebies to help do this.
