There have been a mix of extra costs and savings for schools really. First, savings will have been made by some of these - supply teachers, lighting, heating (for some more modern schools anyway), reduced damage by children, not running minibuses/coaches for sports fixtures, not having all the IT suites turned on, etc... However, there are also increased costs - PPE, extra cleaning, adjustments to aid social distancing, potential reimbursement of home working costs, extra pay for staff having to work bank holidays, extra devices, reduction in lets etc... Not all schools will make all those savings, and not all schools will face all those extra costs. Some schools will have made an overall saving, others will have seen an overall increase in costs.

Aria isn't part of ATL, so this shouldn't affect the trading company that I can see? As Velo isn't affected by the ruling. It'll bankrupt ATL though. This all kinda proves that "holding companies" are a bit of a scam anyway.

Remember, convenience is not quite as important as the security and safety of your children. The 2 issues need to be looked at and balanced. Here, we follow firstname + surname initial + 3 digits - and that is the same for AD and for G Suite. Staff we follow initial + surname + 3 digits. There is no need that I can see to be able to identify a child's age from their username.

It's about blame really. If something happens when they do it on a school system, it is the school's fault and responsibility. If they do it on their personal account? Can't blame the school. Bit cynical but hey, we live in a litigious world.

It's pretty easy to implement. Pretty much all modern languages that you'd create websites with have oauth2 libraries ready to use. I'm developing a dotNET core web app for something internally in our Trust at the moment. Took me a day to implement users, user roles and Google sith integration. Adding other oauth providers is a small task also, with the library supporting a long list of providers out of the box. If I wanted to pre-populate users from our AD or SIMS, that'd be a few hours work on top, not a lot. The issue is usually a mix of lack of knowledge and a lack of will by suppliers, rather than simply not wanting to add it.

How did you generate the certificate request? Did you run something on one of your servers to generate a csr? If so, that server will have the private key part of it all. If not, then GoDaddy should be providing you with a private key.

If you're not changing the words, you're not really parodying the song - you're making a funny video - the song is not being used as a parody itself, you'd just be using the song as a backing track. Part of the difficulty is also that a song is made up of multiple different copyrights - the lyrics, the score, the recording, the video on top, any brands or designs IN that video etc... Its a complex maze of copyright licensing.

With this question I always ask one extra question - do you use SMART Notebook, or Promethean ActivInspire? If the answer is yes, then using non-SMART or Promethean hardware brings in issues with licensing. SMART will charge a lot more for their stuff on non-SMART hardware, and Promethean require a license to be purchased for use on non-Promethean kit also. Last I checked it was VERY expensive per device.

One aspect of this that I don't think has been covered overly well is that this isn't just an issue restricted to Zoom. Sure, Zoom has some unique issues of its own regarding their security and privacy protections, but in reality video chat in general poses a lot of questions in an education setting. For us, we don't allow user of any such tool for interactive video lessons with children that are at home. The risks, we have decided, outweigh the rewards. We cannot control the environment at the other end of the call, and that places all the other participants at risk - of being recorded, of inappropriate content being displayed (either by accident or on purpose), of private information being displayed etc... So, we have instead settled on a policy of allowing broadcasts, via tools like YouTube Live, where teachers can live teach if they wish to, or simply sticking with recorded videos uploaded to be asynchronously viewed by children. I cannot see how a school can fulfil its legal duties and allow full interactive video chats between staff and children.

The end to end encryption thing is a non-issue - none of the corporate video tools offer it, as it is impossible to both have central tools and E2EE. Eg. If you add an org want to record meetings for compliance reasons? Can't be encrypted at the server side. Meet, Teams, S4B, none of those are E2EE. They are encrypted in transit and rest, but the servers, and the companies that run them, have access to that data. Totally agree on the other aspects though.
