The issue doing that would be that most vimeo videos are played via embedded sites. So, that method would leave all embedded Vimeo videos working.

It really depends on your filtering solution. With Securly you can literally unblock the URL in question and it does the rest with CDNs and the like. With Sophos XG, we also had to unblock the following: ^[A-Za-z0-9.-]*\.vimeocdn\.com ^vimeo.com\/api\/ So, for example an individual embedded video would be added on Sophos as ^player\.vimeo\.com\/video\/417655233

The only way we get around it is we unblock individual videos.

My experience with that type of detachable keyboard? They're a disaster in schools. Flimsy and easily broken. The hard docking style ones are much better.

During a pandemic? Sure, its all our jobs to come up with solutions that help all of those around you.

Our prep has been 1) All requests have to be done via email or phone, no visiting us in the office - reducing the need for PPE in the first place 2) Any fixes in rooms will be done when empty - reducing the need for PPE 3) Disposable gloves and masks for when working on and cleaning a device - the mask simply for splash protection from using cleaning sprays and dislodging stuff from the devices 4) Hand gel available 5) Advice to wash hands regularly.

All our laptop and Chromebook purchases have been AMD models for about 18 months now. Not bought any desktops in that time either. The price difference is considerable. £30 more per Chromebook difference for an equivalent Intel model when we looked. 15% extra.

That's been the case for a few years. Adapters work well from what I've seen. We have adapters with USB-C to VGA and HDMI built into one adapter. The ones we have still have USB3 too.

I think the reason that one is so cheap is that it is an older model now - support ends for it in 2025. This year's models are supported in 2028.

Yes, the management licences just apply to the first device that enrols in your domain. So, any Chromebook will work. That said, they cannot be reused with me devices when old ones are removed (there is an exception for replacing broken devices I believe). I'd be surprised if you could get them cheaper at Argos than through a decent reseller though.

I would argue against this, as would my union. The key part of that clause is always "reasonable". Cleaning is not an IT task - else schools wouldn't employ cleaners. Reasonable is things directly linked to your role. Like adding a new system to your network that isn't listed in the job description. Many a school has tried to pull that one only for unions to knock them back.

There's no such thing as common sense. That was proven when people called 999 about KFC running out of chicken.

So, you'd need to talk to a registrar for this. I use TSOHost for our .sch.uk domains (not all registrars will handle them), as they don't make any money off them. The registrar you choose will tell you their IPS tag.

With the way budgets plummet constantly? Not really, no. In my experience across 10 different schools, none of them have liked leases, because it means that they couldn't decide to simply not put any money into the IT budget in a future year, and make the old kit last longer. A lease ties them in to paying out an amount they may not have.

Don't mix up long term supply with short term supply. Our Trust, for example, has a couple of long term supply teachers in at any one time. But on a normal day, we'll probably have 5-10 short term supply teachers in. We've not had any short term supply in during this time, so that is a significant saving of at least £1000 a day.

Every teacher has a laptop in our Trust, plus senior management, and a number of other roles. The thing is, financially this is managed by replacing a small number of them each year. It means we have about 5-10 different devices in rotation. In terms of management, it'd be easier to have a single type of device, all purchased at once. A lease would help spread this out but ties the hands of your school into having to pay for them every year so a lot of bursars are not keen on it.
