Without proof of ownership, it is highly unlikely you'll be able to get them unlocked by Apple. We've got a bunch the same here. We just recycle them now.

I've been asked to look at suppliers who can provide us with 4G mobile broadband that either has filtering or can force a VPN connection back to our existing Sophos XG firewall. Does anyone have any recommendations? I know Schools Broadband and Wave9 are possible options, but would like some other ideas as well.

Also, the big issue for me is the audio recording - there are very few exceptions where recording audio is allowed from what I remember!

We have always bought "Microsoft SQL Server Standard Server" licenses, and accompanying CALs for the machines that connect. So, we run 3 SQL standard servers - so have 3 licenses, and 180 CALs for devices to connect to them.

Don't forget the new MIS from IRIS coming out. Built by the teams that made iSAMS, Parentmail and a few other products IRIS bought up. Should be out this year I'd imagine?

So, thought I'd run a poll to gauge what the community is up to. When do you think you will be migrating your school(s) to Windows 11?

The thing is, Win 10 support doesn't end for another, what, 4 years? At that point, a 7th gen Intel CPU will be 9 years old. By that point, 8th and better gen CPU machines will be available as refurbed machines. So, the only real issue will be people with older machines for some reason wanting to rush into Windows 11. I know its not on my development plan for at least a couple more years anyway!

@ICTDirect_Dave - the issue is not installing Windows 11 on older kit it is lack of support for doing so. Microsoft have stated that unsupported devices may well not get Windows Updates, including security updates. It would be very risky for schools to follow a path of installing it in an unsupported manner these days.

Most up to date systems use the mobile network now. All our alarm systems do, as does our lift at one of the schools. Only thing I can think of which may not be is the gas meter - which is connected to its own phone line (operated by the metering company). So wonder if/when we'll see that swapped out.

That's the same guidance I was given by multiple resellers. Our caretaker is an EQU though, as he spends a good amount of time on a pc, same as our catering manager etc.

Most of our staff have been switching from the various random proprietary visualiser softwares to the Camera app too. Just less clunky all round. Otherwise, IPEVO do a free piece of software that's my second go-to.

We're currently looking at the issue of giving parents login details for younger children and what other schools are doing. So far, our AUP has been fairly restrictive - no sharing of login details is allowed, but this is unrealistic with younger children (EYFS, KS1 and early KS2). What do you do in your schools regarding this? Do you have a different AUP for different age groups? At the other end of the scale, what do you do about older children and Gillick competence?

You can also make use of the SMTP relay server from Google instead - but you have to tell l google the external IP of your connection to do this.

Yes, calendars are owned by a user. I have a generic user in place for each school for their shared calendar.

This is how I learned for our switches too. The manuals are very comprehensive and helpful tbh.

You don't have a single login for both, synchronised between your domain and Google? That seems like more work than its worth.

My reading of this sort of guidance, with their "should" "up to schools", is that we should read it through the lens of "if Ofsted inspect and ask you why you're not following the guidance, will you be able to satisfactorily answer the question". An answer of "its too complicated for children to log in" won't pass muster, I feel. When there's systems designed to make that easier - eg. Wonde QR logins etc...
