well i reckon i'd be looking at around £500 for a replacement so if the warranty extension would be less than that then it might be a good idea. The problem is i dont know exactly who we bought it off, all the server equipment was bought before i worked here and was purchased by Ramesys who were in charge of the I.T at the time and in the past ive tried to track down where we bought stuff from that they purchased on our behalf, but got no where with them , and that was when they were still here (they were told to get lost a few months ago) so that isnt the most tasty of prospects.

We have a Dell PowerEdge 180AS KVM Console Switch which appears to be faulty and out of warranty so i am looking for a replacement. I have prices for another Dell 180AS but wondered if anyone could recommend alternative brands that they are using? It would need 8 ethernet ports to connect the servers and to be able to fit into a Rack. any suggestions?

We have some stencils with our school name that we use to label up equipment with Marking Compound. However we have run out of this compound and i cant find where to buy anymore of it. It was all purchased before i started here and the company name on the bottle seems to have gone out of business. Can anyone reccomend where i can buy just the bottles of paint compound only as we have lots of the stencils left?

We have some small CanoScan scanners on the computers here but when we go to scan using the Microsoft Document Scanning tool in Office 2007 tools, the default "Output" path which is a temporary location is by default set to the C: drive. So when students try to run it they get an Access Denied" Message and have to edit the settings to their Home drive before being able to scan which is too much hassle. I want to set the Output path to H: but cant find any group policy templates to control Document Scanning app so wondered if anyone had any ideas or any alternative scanning programs that work well on a network as we have the exact same problem if you use the Canon software.

i can see how to sort them but i only want to display calls of my own and not other users, this cant be done?
-
On the new version is it possible to filter the Incident Tracking screen to only show a particular users calls rather than the entire open list of all calls assigned to all users? This used to be possible in MLH so am i just missing it?

at the moment i am going into Media on backup exec and finding the IMG files thyat are overwriteable and dated from a few months back. I'm selecting the group that correspond to a certain period and moving them to "Retired Media" and deleting them then deleting them in windows explorer as it says in the Symantec Documentation. Does this method also then delete the B2D files that are linked to those IMG files or not as i dont seem to be freeing up much space on my drive doing this?

We use backup exec and store daily, weekly and monthly backup to disks. The problem is there doesnt appear to be any form of cleanup process implemented (we inherited this system) So is there a usual way to remove old backups? im thinknig i just go in my backup folder and look for all files and folders created on a date of a backup i know i no longer need or is there a risk of breaking any of the other backups doing this?

i think the first thing you need to do is address all the people in this thread who have paid for your product and support and who may be like us who have no working product and have had no support for the last few months. Your product is obviously a great one and we would like to be able to use the new version we were told all about from yourself a while back. I had planned to use the new version and its impressive reporting features to put into a monthly service document to hand to my Senior Leadership Team in school, so it doesnt look good on me when i am unable to do this even though i had promised it would be available from the start of this academic year in september. I think people would rather you just be honest, if its unlikely you can get the new version working to communicate this with your paying customers rather than ignoring their concerns and focussing solely on other aspects as you may find you end up with no customers in the end. Either myself or my colleague will send you a pm to discuss our situation, it would be much appreciated if you could address it today. Thanks.

We had to run a repair of our Exchange Database which has royally messed up a lot of users mailboxes and deleted the majority of their emails. The last working backup we have is from roughly 2 weeks ago but we are struggling to restore from disk or tapes with various errors. Having never performed mailbox restores before we are under a bit of pressure and wondered if there was anyone who has done this who we could ask for advice either through here or phone?

i'm more tempted to look into where we stand in reclaiming some money back as we paid for 1 years support and updates and have had no updates and no support and dont even have a working program to use!
-
We have been waiting to get this working now for nearly 2 months, first we were waiting for a license file and now after being told the licensing side has been scrapped we are also waiting for the update that we have been promised for 3 different days, on all 3 days nothing appeared and we are still waiting. Infuriating is not even the word to use when you've paid for something that you can't use! The support is extremely poor that i'm starting to suspect there is something fishy going on as email after email just appear to be ignored and no one answering the phones there. Anyone else experiencing this kind of service or has someone actually had contact with them recently?

Printer Management "List In Directory" tick box
farquea replied to farquea's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
i have just realised that a few weeks ago we migrated our 2nd DC to a new piece of hardware by taking an image and then applying the image into the new hardware. Do you think this could be the cause of the problem and if so can you reccomend any steps to follow to try and check to see if it is that? -
Printer Management "List In Directory" tick box
farquea replied to farquea's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
well so far there is nothing configured for our DC's in group policy relating to pruning of printers. So im thinknig as the College next door to us who are part of our forest and have enterprise level control of the entire forest there, have updated all their servers to 2008 this summer, that its something to do with them. so ill "try" and get hold of them i guess -
Printer Management "List In Directory" tick box
farquea replied to farquea's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
Nothing has changed on our domain but we are part of a forest with the College next door so im thinking they may have altered something highger up to affect us but thats a pretty vague guess so didnt want to go accusing before i had a better idea of the problem. In the event logs my all it says if you tick the box to list in directory is "Printer was set" and that is it. It will then untick itself about 30 seconds later but nothing appears in the event viewer to say it has been unticked. -
We are adding printers as normal and ticking the "List In Directory" tick box but about 1 minute later they untick themselves. This is only happening on new printers we add, all the old printers which have the option ticked are staying ticked. I cant find anything to figure out whats causing this, the only thing i can think of is that at the top level of the forest there is some sort of group policy overwriting it, but then surely it would affect the older printers? can anyone help?

care to share?

Thanks for that! Is there anyway of having it so it doesnt pop up with the 10 second countdown before closing? I'd rather just log on and it be there and not give me the option to configure?

I've seen other business where they remore onto their servers the wallpaper is just black and then in the middle it lists the server details like name and all other useful info. I think this might be a Server 2008 thin but wondered if you could do it on Server 2003 and how?

The server we use to deploy images via Symantec Ghost 8.2 has been re-built by our support company. However they are arguing that configuring Ghost back to its previous state is our responsibility not theirs. So while i argue it with them i wondered if anyone could help in case i lose patience and end up having to do it myself. And i'm aware of MDT, FOG etc, we're going to look into FOG again later in the year but for now i just want to get our Ghost setup working again. We had it to PXE boot into a boot menu, pick the appropriate driver from a list then continue to automatically look for a session name called "restore" then into ghost and start the image process and reboot when finished. This company have reinstalled Ghost but thats pretty much it. WDS has not been installed or configured. I installed it myself and configured it to the point where by when i try to PXE boot the client gets an IP but then fails with the message "PXE-E55: ProxyDHCP service did not reply to request on port 4011" I dont want to spend to much time on it at the moment as i still believe its up to them to fix but i wondered if anyone knows how far i am from getting it working myself as its only this 1 server which has been rebuilt so everything like DHCP settings should all still be configured fine. Can anyone help or point me to any easy to follow guide which may help?

3 Simultaneous Remote Connections To a Server
farquea replied to farquea's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
I thought about this yesterday but can only get 2 on even using your command and the one i found on google yesterday of mstsc -v:server -console and i think i read somewhere that you could no longer do it but that may of been something else. Can you get 3 logons on a server using the console command out of interest? -
3 Simultaneous Remote Connections To a Server
farquea replied to farquea's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
the question is am i buying 1 extra remote desktop cal or 3, 1 for all 3 of us? I HATE MS licensing with a passion, its so unclear most of the time.
