that come straight from Acer themselves?

having only flicked through that document, do you know what we'd be looking to pay to cover 30 laptops under that, i'm assuming its going to be something silly but i can hope that its actually affordable?
-
I need to buy a new trolley of 30 laptops. Previously we had problems with kids pulling keys off and having to pay £50 for a new keyboard so i want something hard to break, keys hard to get off and a decently sturdy case in case it is dropped or screens hit. Any ideas?

I've been given money to replace the computers in 2 of our I.T Suites, so approx 60 new machines. We currently have the classic Dell Desktops with a money which i'd like to move away from as i get sick of students moving the base unit around, the twisitng the moniter and being able to unplug cables at the back. I've thought about some All-In-One units which may stop these problems but its just a quick thought. Anyone have or know any useful info regarding these? Are there any recommendations anyone can make or things we should be looking out for?

ok thanks for the help so far, so if i can connect a Netgear WGPS606 to the printer i can then join the router to the domain and the printer will function as any normal network printer plugged in the network via a wall port? Might need to do some in-house modding to mount the printer and a power strip though and hide all the cabling!
-
dont suppose you knew the make and model of the trolley do you?
-
How were the printers plugged in power wise? to the wall or somehow to the trolley then the trolley plugged in. If in the wall were the power cables just left to hang or what?
-
are you actually using this kind of setup then? The printer would be on a print server, its just i had reservations about connecting it to the network wirelessly, i think i'd have to trial it as i'd be worried about the reliabiltiy of it. My main problems is just manging all the plugs and wires on top of the trolley unless i could come up with a way to tidy them away somehow.
-
good call although id then need a power plug for that too and think it could start to become unmanagebable and more stuff to "go missing" or break as it will all be on show for students on top of the trolley when they go to collect a laptop.
-
nope, i have 2 spare 3com AP's but they only have 1 etenret port, and there are 2 ports on the back of my laptop trolleys which ive never really looked at what they can be used for, but i assume one would plug the AP into it and the other would go to a live wall ethernet port, leaving nothing to plug a printer into. A wireless printer i'm worried may be a bit "un-usable" on a g network and crawl with a class of 30 sending documents to it, dont suppose anyone has experience of this though?
-
yeah i could get them to plug in the power and network cable but im worried about the messy cables, as im not sure how the cables would be stored when not in use (i dont want them dangling around). I'd much prefer everything to be incoperated into the one trolley, so the power to the printer coming from the trolley and then maybe just having to plug the trolley in at the wall (which staff normally do anyway) and have the printer wireless either through a wireless printer or plugged into a wireless AP (if this is even possible?)

we have 3 laptop trolleys in the school and a printer in EVERY Classroom. I have an idea to mount a printer on top of each laptop trolley therefore the printer will move with the laptops for students to print, meaning we could get rid of A LOT of printers in the process. Is this possible? the printer would have to be connected to the wireless, so i guess a wireless printer would be needed or some sort of wireless AP hooked up to the trolley with the printer connected to this with a cable? and then provisions made for a power plug for the printer as well. Anyone do this, easy to do or are there laptop trolleys designed like this already as i can see it becoming messy with all the cables if i was to try and implement this ourself with our current hardware?

just sent you a private message

The formatter boards on some of our HP2015 printers have gone so we either need to buy replacement formatters, which at the moment look to be about £100 or replace the printer with something brand new or a 2015 again. Anyone know where i could maybe get hold of some cheap 2015 or refurbs before i look at brand new printers?

just that it was all staged and scripted. There are a lot of people and film producers/directors who also think it was faked, if you do some research ala wiki/imdb. the makers insist it is not fake but thinking back about watching it now, i'm in the "fake" group with regard to its authenticity.
-
yep watched it thought it was good.. until i checked it on IMDB today and realised it was most likely all fake

thats what i thought, i just wasn't sure why when you ticked the "static" box it filled the gateway in with this, as if that was the gateway it was currently using.
-
mask is 255.255.240.0 yes

The company who setup the I.T in the school put a load of wireless access points in the school and put together a very badly wirrten document. In the Cisco wireless software, none of the access points have static IP's, even though their document lists their Ip's which are of course wrong now mostly. I want to put all the access points onto static address, so for example i have one using 172.29.80.25 but when i tick the default gateway it enters it in as 172.29.95.254. The gatewy should surely be 172.29.80.254 as its on the .80 subnet in its IP. I can change this myself but i just want to be sure that at the moment on DHCP its not using that .95 gateway and by me setting it to static IP and changing the gateway to.80 will break anything. So is there a way through pinging it that i can find out the current default gateway it is using?

thought i had this working but dont... Have 3 drives, 2 are on our file server 1 on ur Applications server. I ran the script first on the application server and it copied 600MB of data that apparently hasnt been access in the last 2 years. Did the same on my other 2 drives and it copied a handful of folders, which i know is not right. Now on every folder in the "last accessed" field it has the time i ran the script at, so pretty stuck! Anyone had this problem, anything i can do? Just realised, my Q: drive which the script worked fine on, doesnt have shadow copy running on it. The other 2 drives do, so i'm assuming thats what has messed up the "Last Access" field. any way around this or am i buggered?

I just found Hyper-V to be cheaper than VMWare but still offering the functionality we need. There also something about using Microsoft that i just prefer for some reason rather than going the VMWare route. I just see Microsoft eventually becoming the standard for virtualisation. As for DPM i read that while it was good, that it was still rather lacking when you compare it to Backup Exec so i think id rather pay for a good piece of backup software and can sleep a bit more soundly. Not heard of Forefront TMG, will have a read up now. As for Server 2008 versions, should i have all my servers and virtual servers running Datacentre or can i just have Datacentre on my virtual hosts and will be fine with Enterprise on the virtual servers?? Any downside to this?

Considering Re-Cabling My Switches, Advice Needed!
farquea replied to farquea's topic in Wireless Networks
yeah the problem is people moving their rooms around over the years means the phones have been plugged into different ports than they were originally so now i cant be sure if a black cable in the switch actually has a phone plugged into it at the other end. -
This is what i want to propose to SLT to be done this summer. Can anyone spot any problems or things i should re-think? Keep our Current backup server as it is with PowerVault storage and tape library connected to it. Decommision all other rack servers. Keep all newer blade servers and upgrade RAM and NICs. Host 1 as a standalone DC, 4 hosting Virtual Servers and 1 server spare ready to take any VM's from a server that fails. Using Hyper-V and Microsoft Virtual Machine Manager to manage virtual servers. Rebuild all servers to use Server 2008 R2. Datacentre for all servers hosting VM's, Enterprise for Backup server, standalone DC and virtual server instances. (or should i use datacentre for everything?) All VM's hosted on SAN that is already in place. Upgrade Excahnge 2007 to 2010. Upgrade from Backup Exec 12.5 to 2010 Should i consider a 2nd SAN for mirroring? We are running ISA Server 2006 and believe that it doesnt run on Server 2008? Is there something i can do or is there no alternative other than keeping a server 2003 server running to host ISA on?

I have inherited a bit of a messy server room and switch cabinets. Our network has been setup with 2 VLANS, Admin and Curricuclum, but rather stupidly Teacher PC's were put onto the Admin VLAN. They also used black cables for phones, green for wireless and grey for everything else. However phones have been moved around god knows how much so i want to scrap that idea and just have maybe black for Admin and grey for Curriculum. Currently the switches will have a mixture of Curriculum and Admin configured VLAN ports on it. Would it be a good idea to assign a few switches to be purely Admin VLAN devices connected to it and other switches to just have curriculum devices plugged into it? I just want advice on best practice on how to re-cable and a decent system to put in place. i imagine a good idea will be to cable in all patch panel ports to switches too then cable tie everything off?

Can someone clear this up. Companies sell compatible toners that are larger capacity than standard genuine toners, i'm told they are X version toners. However ive read about rhe chips on the toner cartridges and in the rpinter that point are that when a certain amount has been reported to report the toner as empty as it is basing it on being a standard sized toner, therefore you end up replacing the toner early and not using the extra capacity you apparently get. I know you can disable the chips in the printers but then you dont get the reported amount of toner left on each colour or the order/replace reports on the front, you just have to wait until you can visibly see that the toner has run out. So with the chips NOT being disabled, if you use an X version higher capacity toner will the printer actually use all the toner before reporting it as being empty?
