  1. i want to be able send out important ICT messages such as "SIMS upgrade at 4pm today", "internet down" etc just flashing up as messages say in the bottom corner of their desktop. Anyone know of software that can do this?
  2. Can someone explain what "/XA:RHS" i can see what XA does but not what the RHS relates to?
  3. right think i have this working now, 1 question i have though. i'll be running this on the L: drive and copying all old files to L:/archive so do i need to add an exception to not scan L:/archive or does it not matter because it would copy anything from there to there anyway?
  4. not familiar with Robocopy previously. Does this have to be run on Server 2008 or will it work on 2003. Also how do i run this, into a text file and save as a batch file?
  5. im assuming this doesnt keep any kind of folder structure and just dumps files into a folder?
  6. this is the bit i had my doubts about
  7. I am trying to crack down on MP3's being stored in peoples H: drives as i know it is illegal anyway. So if they have them on a pen drive and listen to it, is there any difference as it is stored on their hardware and not the schools or because it is being played on, and i imagine copied to a default location on the C: drive, just exactly the same and no different?
  8. any chance you could send me the script so i can have a look at it?
  9. We have a teachers shared drive and an admin staff shared drive. I want to keep it up to date and free of clutter and my line manager also is always asking for it to be "cleaned" Can anyone suggest a way to go about this? I ideally would just like to move all files and folders that have not been accessed in the last 1 or 2 years to a hidden folder there and eventually deleted a year later from the hidden folder after being backed up to a tape. Anyone?
  10. We currently have a Server 2003 network. We have licenses for Server 2008 but not for 2008R2. Ultimately i see in the future the whole school moving from XP to 7, and all servers running Server 2008 R2 with most servers virtualiased. Is there any point in us upgrading the servers from 2003 x86 to 2008 x86 in the meantime or are there no real advantages to doing this? I'm told there are quite significant differences between 2008 and 2008 R2.
  11. AUP Informant looks very good but it wouldnt work on our staff laptops, which was the area i wanted to tackle first. Staff laptops are not used in school and not connected to the domain, they are just standalone with users given restricted access. So i'll have to think again.
  12. ye but ideally i wanted to just have the images already restored and it just be a case of being faced with a boot loader and pick the instance of windows to load up.
  13. i only want the agreement to flash up the first time they log on, not everytime
  14. This is what we want to achieve but my colleague who has been working on it is saying that Ghost has trouble downloading images to partitions and cant get it to work properly.
  15. i want to be able to perfectly recreate a problem for a member of staff. For example we have a science image, a teacher reported that a powerpoint wasnt running properly, so we either then have to download the science image to a test pc in our office, or find time to get on a science PC during the day when its not being used to try figure out the problem. So i want to have the exact same hardware in our office (which we have) with the ability to quickly load up the exact same image on a pc in the school which a problem has been reported on. Therefore i want 1 computer in the office with all 8 of our school images installed onto partititons on it which we can load at will and then just drop into an OU to instantly recreate the problem and investigate.
  16. I want to setup a computer which has all our school images on the hard drive(s) so that we can switch it on, be met with a menu asking which windows to boot to, preferably being able to rename the installations so that we know which is which. I then want to download these images to this 1 computer using Ghost. Anyone doen this and have an easy way of doing it?
  17. We have a written user agreement that staff sign when they take out laptops. I would like to put in place a digital agreement that loads up the first time they logon, which forces them to read and agree to it, signing it and then saving it to a locked folder on the laptop for us to retrieve at a later date. If they do not agree to the agreement i want it to log them off and make it so they cannot use the laptop until they agree and sign it. I would look to put this into school too if i could get something working and in place. Does anyone do this and give me some advice or tools on how to get it going?
  18. tagging onto this.... we already use the check-home script but i want to put something in place that when a user unplugs the network cable that something happens that either makes it a pointless task or requires some sort of intervention from a teacher to allow them to be able to work. The first i think would be easier and thinknig, if a network cable is unplugged then log the user off. I want to do this to stop kids unplugging them to get round netsupport and just generally playing silly buggers unplugging them.
  19. I wondered if anyone had a way of tracking failed attempts of Administrator logins. Obviously i just want to make sure no kids are trying
  20. I have some small video cameras that I need to mark up with the school name and postcode but I only have an area of about 50 x 30 MM to work with. The current stencils we use are too big and the company we bought them from appears to have gone out of business. So does anyone have any recommendations of companies that could do some small stencils like this or the security stickers that are really hard to peel off?
  21. found the problem, it is just my domain admin login as it was a member of the switch_admin group but there was also a policy in place listing 3 ips which i think you had to be logging in from for it to work. Taken those out and can login fine now.
  22. You login to a community on Network Assistant which contains all switches. I'm pretty sure i just used to use a Domain Admin account and also just found a group called "switch_admin" which is only assigned to the 3 domain admin accounts. but yet CNA just doesnt seem to like these credentials when logging in.
  23. I have Cisco Network Assistant 5.5 installed and have used it in the past. I came to login today and when i select the community to connect to i get prompted for my username and password. I caanot for the life of me remember what credentials i used to login with, whether it is network credentials or something specific to Cisco. Can someone help me and explain what type of username it would be and in case i need to, anyway of resetting the username/password?
  24. so i'll actually get more out of the CP2025's?? thats surprised me. If that is the case then im more likely to put them in a classroom i think as they will probably cope better when 30 kids throw massive powerpoint documents at it which is where the 2605's tend to lock up and cause us problems.
  25. We have bought 2 new HP CP2025's, initially to be put in the Head's office and in his PA's office. They currently have a HP 2605's in each room. But now im thinking if they would be better used in a classroom as they are obviously newer technology, better spec, but my only worry is that i dont want to be changing the toner's in the CP2025's all the time as the toners look very small in capacity compared to the 2605 toners. Now i cant find any details on toner capacity for each type of toner, any suggestions on which would be better suited for where?
