The pages are .asp files though so thats not going to work is it?

We have some helpdesk software which doesnt have a built in auto refresh, so when i come to update a call it takes me back to the log in page after a period of time which is becoming rather annoying! Can anyone suggest a solution, im thinking just setup something to refresh the page every so often, somehow?

We have 30 laptops in a trolley which are used in different rooms during the day. We would like to use netsupport with them over the wireless. I can get it working by dropping the laptops into the same OU as the Teacher PC (each Teacher pc is in its on OU which corresponds to the classroom number) but the laptops we have in their own "laptops" OU. On Netsupport we have it to search for devices in that room eg R92-. So without moving the laptops constantly around OU, or all the teacher PC's into the same OU as the laptops can anyone suggest an easy way to get this working? I just want to be able to wheel the laptops in with the teacher opening netsupport abnd boom have them there, then next lesson roll into another room and boom. I know someone will bring up the question of 2 teachers having netsupport open at the same time might cause conflicts but im confident if i tell them to close netsupport if they aren't using the laptops that they will.

yes sorry i should say the alerts come through fine, i can set it up to send through when toner is low but i need it for when the toner is empty. So a rule to say alert when toner reaches x% would be ideal as i could also use this to get around the 2015 problem of reporting 1% toner left even though its empty. But i just cant find how to do it.

Can someone please help me to setup an alert in WJA for when a toner is empty. Ive tried using the "Toner Out" condition but that doesnt seem to work and im thinking that means toner physically taken out? Toner Low is no use as i need an alert only when a toner is empty. Is there a condition when you can say when a toner hits x% alert because we also have hp2015's which will always report 1% even though the toner is out. Anyone help?

I'm confused. We have a print server and all printers are networked. So im not too sure where id find this DOT4 printing support?

We have a lot of HP2605 printers in the school. If anyone tries to print large documents such as powerpoints of 5MB+ it crawls up to the size as it spools the job which takes an age, we're talking silly time, and more time than not it will "error" anyway. We have a HP3800 which i tried to print on and it flies through the queue and prints in seconds. Now i dont know if there is something like driver/configuration issues at play here because i cant see how the 3800 can take about 45 secs to spool and print a document and the 2605's can take 10mins and might not even print it in the end. Even though the 3800 is newer i woulnt expect that difference to be that big. Any suggestions or anyone had similar problems when printing large files?

I've been asked to do PAT testing later in the year. I've never done it before so really not too sure what the procedure entails. I've been told to look into appropirate testing for it. is this needed as im sure the caretakers in the school know how to do it, is it not something i could learn from them easily? And i'd like to know what the minimum legal requirements are for doing this so that i give myself as little work as possible!

@theriver yes the kitchen staff are hired and paid buy a catering company and the hardware in there has a support contract from the company that installed it but as i said that company has since gone bust so therefore there is no support available anymore. They have a dell server tower with 2k3 running, your standard CD drives and usb ports etc. We obviously use Backup exec for the school servers but i think thats a little overkill for this. im thinknig more a usb hard drive and windows backup but ive never used windows backup so not too confident and wondred if anyone could suggest any other simple way of doing this.

Out kitchen equipment is no longer supported by the company who installed it (they went bust) so we have been fixing any problems that have been occuring but if anything major was to happen we'd be in the sh#t. They are on a private network consisting of 3 touchscreen tills and a server. We have taken an image of a till which is fine as no data is ever stored on them. The server however has a lot of software that we dont have the CD's for and a all the schools data for the amount of money on each students swipe card they use to buy lunch. We have an image of the server but we could do with a daily backup strategy ideally. As its not really a part of the school we would want to do for as little money as possible and as easily as possible, automatically each night. There is id say roughly 10gig of data which needs backing up and just wondered if someone could suggest anything?

ive had a printer appear in HP WebJetadmin software with a dhcp assigned ip and its default hostname as if its been reset. Problem is ive no idea where it is. I know its a classroom printer but before i do some long way round of checking names of printer against the list in WebJet is there an easy way to locate something to the network port its plugged into from its ip address?

when i say default user i meant log on the TS with those credentials but then obviously log into sims with their own account as i thought id read other schools using that method although the issue of saving documents would be worth thinking about. We have roughly 120 members of staff so we'd want to cater for that (although im not sure about the limitations of our VPN as it wasnt setup by us) And if we didnt use our SIMS server is there a rough spec you think we'd need as it might mean a completely new server in that case?

We have recently just got our VPN connection working and i want to look into letting staff run sims from home. Ive decided the best way would be to RDP into the school from their laptops at home and runs sims that way. Therefore im going to look into setting up a Terminal Server for staff to log onto as a default user and run sims and office apps only. Ive never done this before so firstly i was thinking about running it on our SIMS server seeing as nothing runs on it during the evening as everyone is at home. The spec of the server is; 2x 2ghz Xeon CPU with 4 gig of RAM Would this be sufficient and if so for how many concurrent connections do you think? It is x86 OS so if it would need more ram that would be a stumbling block. Ive also heard someone mention load balancing? i could do with some pointing in the right direction on how to do that and what needs to be done. And anything else i should be made aware of?

We have a rather "silly" setup at our school where our domain is part of a forest where the adjoninig college in the building next door control email filtering rules. The problem is that the college IT staff are in no way connected to the school and are notoruiously unhelpful. We have emails that are either just not arriving or being bounced back to the sender. I have read a config file sent to me from the college and in that is the stated bounce back message text. This backs up our rather useless off-site support company's claim that email rulings are set by the College at the top level domain policy. This is the email i have had from the college, can someone guide me to where on our exchange server i can find what they want? Do you have any anti spam components setup on your transport hub server? Is there in the smtp protocol log showing messages being rejected ?

just tested it again and now it seems to work fine so i can only assume the county council have been buggering about their end and that was the problem!

So this looks like my ISP, which would be the council, has blacklisted hotmail accounts? interestingly the ones so far which didnt work were hotmail.com my friend has just tried on a hotmail.co.uk address and that came through fine.

problem is a lot of our mail stuff is govered by the college which is on the same land site as our school but nothing really to do with us (stupid setup i know), and getting hold of them is usually quite a task in itself. But they do have some kind of bounceback messages because ive been trying to get hold of them about IRIS alert emails that dont get through i know if something is rejecyed as SPAM by our (their) servers it sends a message saying it was recjected as spam. This message im getting back to my hotmail account is coming from Hotmail mail servers not the school/colleges.

A user has just pointed out to me that her daughter couldnt email her. After a little bit of investigating it seems if you try and email someone in the school from a hotmail address you recieve the following bounce back email; This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. Delivery to the following recipients failed. It attaches a random file which i have no idea what it is, if i open it with notepad its just gobbledegook so theres nothing really that is very useful to determine why they aren't being delivered. The user says her daughters email her from hotmail addresses regualrly and have always worked until today. Any ideas on where to start at getting to the bottom of it?

We are adding in extra desktops to our library and having the desks extend to accomodate them. The question is the swivel chairs we currently have in there from British Thornton i found out are a staggering £65 each!! They are simple plastic chairs with wheels on the bottom, although if you want to sacrifice the small bit of padding on the seat it takes it down to a still expensive £50. Can anyone reccomend a more price competitive suppliers from when they put new furniture in their school as im hoping to get something just as good for a bit less than £65?

I know a bit about NAP but its on 2008 that i know, i wasnt sure if NAP was even on 2003. For the time being we will be sticking with 2003, thats one thing im sure of. And yeah we have an ISA on site. I just wondered what a usual setup for a VPN on server2003 was, like what was put in place for security so i can then go and find out how close to this our setup is as i have little faith in the company who set this up so want to be sure everything is secure before we start letting staff loose using it from home.

Im not too sure what kind of security has been put in place, ideally i was thinking NAP should be used to decline connections to any clients who dont have up to date anti virus and windows updates etc but this doesnt appear to be in place. Before i email them asking what is in place and what we would like could someone please advise what should be in place in your opinion or what youer school has in place. Id just like to have some clear ideas for when i speak to them about it to be able to know what it is we want. I dont know too much about it but its running off server 2003 and is cisco software client we are using. well heres my desire as it was; I watch tv/films on my computer in bed and when i want to go to sleep i have to get up shutdown the pc and turn off the monitor. I've invested in wireless keyboard so that i can shutdown from the comfort of my bed but then the monitor standby blue luight carries on blinknig away once the pc is off which i cant sleep with so i still have to get up to turn the monitor off. So i want a way of swtiching everything off from the comfort of my own bed.... yes im lazy!
