I've used it in a round about way as we use GFI max to monitor out various clients and it comes partly built into that for the servers. Its good although not great when you accidentally leave it enabled to install critical updates at 9am on a Monday morning and M$ release a critical update for exchange which disables all the services!!

depending on the Size of the device Open-E is very good for that kind of thing and free to a certain size (2tb).

Meraki Wireless does not communicate to the cloud controllers via HTTP or HTTPS. You need to have additional specific ports opened outbound to specific addresses. The ports are available here but may vary depending on your setup. https://dashboard.meraki.com/manage/support/firewall_configuration You will be required to login using your cloud controller account. With regards to directing the students - If you setup the Meraki SSID using NAt mode it will use its own DHCP and seperate them from the LAN network. Under the firewall options you need to setup a policy to Deny access from the wireless clients to the Local LAN. You can then leave the access points on DHCP on the normal network and also create an SSID for school devices which are completely seperate from the network without the need to Vlans (Meraki AP only allows clients from the open SSID to the default gateway no where else). You can also traffic shape and limit the bandwidith the students can use to the Internet so they can't waste all the internet feed.

There is a VMware View client which runs on the Raspberry pi if that's what you are trying to achieve (installed to sd card). If not I have had good experiences using HP TC using Windows 7 Embedded. The only wyse terminals I had used there own custom OS which I thought was awful.

Yup or was Rob says - If you do look to upgrade paths it might be worth waiting to see if VMWare do ditch the VRam Licensing model for 5.1 and upgrade paths to it.

As Synack says Exchange is like SQL and will just keep eating ram (Store.exe). Exchange 2010 does seem to be better but still is a resource hog! I can't comment of Forefront though as never used it.

At present no - although here in the office we only map home drives via folder redirection and not AD. So we have mapped our home drives to the public share (not ideal but works). I'm trying to find out more information as we speak about the road map for the product. We have fed a few things back to the developers and things we would like to see (such as the ability to force 2nd factor auth such as a pin code for access rather then perm logged in)

Yup - same here and my phone was on the wireless as well - still the same laggyness over 3G. Gonna try a Nexus 7 later but don't think it will work.

Is that for 4TB's? From a rough guess I have a client who pays roughly £500 per month (6kpa) for a little less then that! So reducing that to sub $50 a month ($600pa) and you paying the restore fee after 2 years which you may never need.

Exactly - to rebuilt a server room even of the basic variety costs thousands of pounds 5k for the data is nothing especially if you compared hosting that 4TB data with somebody like databarracks etc who will do the restore for free. And you could probably convince and Insurance company to pay for it!

Version 4 works well (most of my customers arrives 4.1 but similar). from 4.1 ESX was dumped in favour of the cut down ESXI (many people still refer tl it as ESX still - even VMWare in some documenstion still. 4.1 to 5 has some major changes which can be viewed in this PDF. http://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2011/08/vsphere-50-features.html with a more detailed explanation in this blog. http://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2011/08/vsphere-50-features.html I only done the VTSP at version 5 (which is quite in depth but not as much as VCP which is in pipeline hopefully!). Many of the new features are around networking, storage etc.

I'm fairly sure I had a client t running this. Maybe it is a 4.1 host. I will check in the office but yes 4.0 is quite old and 5.0 has some good features (storage drs etc)

If VMWare essentials (or essentials plus) then you are license d for 6 cpus or 3 hosts by normal configurations. And yes the licensing changed for V5 but for V5.1 supposedly it's changing back. (rumours only but VMWare world is next week) I think you can manage a V5 host from a V4 vcenter but I would upgrade the vcenter server to V5 which can definitely manage a V4 host (V5 is x64 only). Although we dont get license training for a VTSP. I'm not 100% sure but will ask one of the VMWare sales Guys totomorrow.

Further update: Appsense Datanow has now been released and I have been trialling for the last couple of weeks with guys in the office (one of a Mac, 3 Win 7 laptops, Samsung S3, Iphones, Ipads and a Nexus 7. Have to say I have been very impressed with it. Although slight issue with Nexus 7 (Android Jelly Bean) in that you cannot download files. Very easy to setup and it just looks at AD for your home directory path and shares it out to any device you login with.
