  11. Hi All, As a sysadmin in the company, what sort of things do you usually do when you got nothing to do in the office (or at least not that big deal) ? Because if you just sitting down browsing the internet wouldn't be a good report to your supervisor or boss These are some of the following task that i usually do: 1. Test Backup and Recovery strategy 2. Check antivirus status and windows update 3. Windows Server and VM maintenance 4. Hardware and Software Inventory tracking 5. researching for better software / hardware to invest and implement in the company.

  13. thanks for the reply man, it seems that i need to ask the new ISP for my router (public facing) interface hopefully they can provide that. and i've just queried my domain from: and it works actually, the response comes from the ISP DNS.
  14. Thanks for your willingness to help SYNACK, however this is what I'm doing in the office and it is quite different from home: the result is rather useless as well since i cannot list all of the public IP that this company have. as I'm still learning in networking, I wonder how and where can i get this information from ?
  15. thanks for your reply man, here's what I've got from the connection at my home how come it doesn't give me anything useful ?
  16. thanks for the reply mate, we are changing the ISP to new one but our domain name is the same and yes, the thing that is still mystery for us, is the public DNS which previously our provider provides the DNS translation (host the external DNS) but now i have to prepare linux box for that to host our external DNS which resolve the website IP and our email server IP. so in this case i need to grab all of our IP addressrange and host it into the external facing DNS ?
  17. Hi All, I'd like to know what's the proper best practice for network cutover which involves multi site internet and VPN access ? we are moving into new ISP and it is whole new range of IP address and technology, eg. we have to host our own DNS and public facing website. if anyone can help or suggest me with the cut over checklist then that'll be great. Cheers, AWT
  18. thanks for the suggestion to setup KMS man, so in this case we can reuse any server OS serial number as long as there is Datacenter 2008 license on the host to cover it up ?
  19. Hi Guys, I've got a server from Dell with Windows Server 2008 Datacenter :confused:edition sticker on it and I'd like to deploy many Windows Server 2003-2008 VM on it, according to this article: https://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/licensing-faq.aspx#virt we can deploy unlimited VM of any server OS version, but the question is, which serial number to use ? in the COA there is a 2 types of key, one is physical and the other is virtual, and i don't think that the virtual key is compatible with the Windows Server 2003. Any kind of help would be appreciated. Thanks. AWT

  23. I'm planning to create a monthly report to share with the IT Director but now I'm struggling with providing them with information that they care about. I also have many sources of information that I want to include. So I wonder what fellow Experts are doing in this regard ? Capacity Management ? What does your management/executive team care about? Backup reports? Antivirus statistics? I want to give them information that's simple enough for them to see what we need to give attention to IT-wise. Please share what has worked for you here. Thanks
