Deploying Windows 7 through WDS - Prompt for PC name
saundersmatt replied to Iain.Faulkner's topic in Windows 7
We pre-stage the accounts in active directory. In practicality this means that we boot a new machine to the WDS server, where it waits for authorisation and us to allocate a name to the computers's guid. Using %machinename% in the unattend file will pull the name from AD. Initial builds are a bit more complicated but rebuilds are a snap. I know it's not exactly what you were looking for but it's the nearest we could work out and I like it. Matt -
@Tech_Guy Did you get the email from ICTDS this morning about upgrading to 3.1.0.4? Matt

Obviously the little blighters have pulled the keys off of the keyboards for some of our Macs, whilst I am inclined to just replace them with generic windows style keyboards I can appreciate the Teachers' point about incorrectly labelled. I am loath to spend substantial amounts on the correct imac keyboards so am looking for recommendations of suppliers that can provide cheap/replica/clone/apple labelled keyboards. Thanks, Matt

Weird Problem with .EXE's on 2003 File Server
saundersmatt replied to tech_guy's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
Can't say i've had that problem on 2003 but have had it under 7. The Vista fix at the bottom of this page worked for me. Matt -
I think that on their old version of the site you could pass the centre id as a ? parameter in the URL. Since their revamp I think it is cookie based, so you are out of luck. Matt

Is it on windows xp? If so have a look online for csccmd 1.1, it will let you recover files from the local offline cache. Matt

[video] Bear does a good Bruce Lee impression.
saundersmatt replied to mattx's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
Brilliant. Needed something to make me smile. Thanks -
We had this exact same problem yesterday. (It made me feel as though I was going insane) Having contacted the support desk we were told that there were known issues with some ctf files. I would contact your support provider. Matt

Flip Cams .. which do you use / recommend?
saundersmatt replied to soveryapt's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
I don't have any real experience with these things. The Kodak Zx1 however is apparently a very nice piece of kit. Matt -
Still causes that same error. Steaming POS. Matt

Just checked the console. We have 1 active client, which has successfully captured data today. I have no reports of that machine doing anything funny (however it is not particularly heavily used!) Client version is 3.0.0.8, Server version is 3.0.0.0. Have just check with the other guys here and it seems the reason we removed it from pcs (along with not logging correctly) was that it caused a ridiculous App-V/Office saving issue. Will give that a quick test and see what happens. Matt

We don't currently have it installed due to previous serious bugs with Win7 and IE8 (which, begin deployed site wide, make it useless). What's the latest version number, i'll give it a test for you. Matt

It includes 4.6 final though. Have you tried updating your client to that? Matt
-
I'm not sure there is a 4.6 server version yet. There certainly wasn't when we changed to 4.6 RC on the client. We are still running 4.5 CU1 (4.5.1) on the server. Cannot find 4.6 on connect anymore, am currently downloading the MDOP 2010 refresh to see what is in it. I'd get hold of the refresh and try that if i were you. Matt
-
That wouldn't make a difference. For reference you can change the target os in the OSD file, it is not stored anywhere in the sequenced package. Is it the MDT 2010, or MDT 2010 refresh that you are using? Matt
-
Have you sequenced them on a 64 bit machine? You could try updating to App-V 4.6, should be available on connect.microsoft.com Matt

Virtualising the SIMS.net client?
saundersmatt replied to Ric_'s topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
We have the Sims .net client virtualised on App-v. Bear in mind that it will need re-sequenceing each and every upgrade. Matt -
File screening will not remove existing file in contravention of the policy, it will only prevent new files being saved there. You can test this by trying to copy an exe to a location served by a file screening policy, if it is working it will give you a permission denied error dialog box. Matt

Thank you both greatly. I will use the RTF reporting for now, and investigate improved reporting in the next upgrade. Thanks again. Matt

Hi Guys, The behaviour coordinators here are looking to print a list of each students in all reg groups with a few extra columns next to their names to tick/cross whether individual requirements of the uniform are being met. I'm struggling to work out an easy way to get each of these lists to print to a new page per reg group. I currently have a report in sims with reg/surname/forename and extra "blank" fields. If I do a sims "World List report" it will display to a table, but each reg group runs on from the next. I have found this guide on how to separate categories in a mail merge to new pages but cannot fathom how to get it working correctly. Just wondering if any of you do something similar or have any more ideas for a solution. Thanks. Matt

New SysInternals tool: Disk2vhd
saundersmatt replied to AngryTechnician's topic in Windows Server 2008
Thanks very much. We have just used this to move some legacy servers from vmware to hyper-v. Couldn't get any other P2V tools to work and this one was instant. Matt -
Have a look at AviSynth. Using DirectShowSource for processing your asf files and importing the virtualdub logo filter to add your watermark. Matt
