Might also be worth checking misco.co.uk, they have a refurbished section and I've seen good specs at good prices. Matt.

I'd definately recommend this method, it is very useful for us indeed. Matt

You have to buy the MDOP as an additional line item. It is not expensive, around £2-3 if i recall. Edit: Per FTE Matt

Hi, I've just been asked to consider how to squeeze 2 extra computers into every IT room to accomodate larger classes. Most of our rooms currently have 30 machines with each pc on an individual desk. What suite/class sizes do you all have, and has anyone had to perform any similar magic? Thanks, Matt

Thanks guys, I'll take a look at the HP/Ruckus injectors. I assume these need one plug socket per injector at the midspan location? Matt

Hi, I'm looking to upgrade the switches at a local primary school. They're currently using a mix of netgear desktop switches and old HP hubs so it all needs replacing. There are 2 switch locations at the moment, one has 36 ports, the other 20. There is also the consideration that they are installing 4 access points where theyre are no power sockets so some POE at the 36 port location would be beneficial. Idealy I'd like a 48 port gigabit switch which has 8 POE ports, but I can't seem to find such a thing that exists, and a 24 port gigabit. I have been considering the HP v1910, in 48 and 24 port incarnations and using a lindy midspan to provide POE, however the midspan doesn't appear to support gigabit ethernet. Does anybody have any clever ideas? Tia, Matt

They aren't included in the Core CAL suite, no. But they're not £10 more like £2. Also, as port of EES they're covered by software assurance. Matt

With you here. I've been advised similarly. Each person needing access to RDS would need an RDS User CAL. If you get RDS User CALs * FTE Count this would cover all staff and students; but only for internal user (i.e. on site). External use would require additional RDS User CALs, or an external connector license (whichever is more cost effective). Confused is an understatement.

My apologies, I'd meant to include a note like in the previous line about what language I use. For clarification it's an AutoIt script, using a lot of window controls (which was a royal pain to develop but much better than manually linking FFTLive exports to students)

Not batch scripts per-se, but two of my more advances scripts are: Enumerate staff/student home folders and delete any that are no longer associated with an AD user account, written in Python. Bulk attaching linked documents in SIMS.net to students via simulating keypresses/mouseclicks. Matt

You're right that msi was 32 bit only, and WIX is difficult about 32/64 bit msis. I've just bunged together a 64 bit version that appears to work on my machine. I've also uploaded the 32 bit, and associated wsx files too: ma.tt-s.co.uk/TrueCrypt/ Matt

Looking for custom designed server case suggestions
saundersmatt replied to jamesfed's topic in Hardware
Then try Tyan. We got a 1U rackmount that houses 4 drives for £460 (this was in 2008 though). :EDIT: Apologies, missed your requirement for supporting standard mATX boards. Take a look at http://www.xcase.co.uk/1u-Rackmount-19-Cases-s/24.htm Matt -
PM'd an alternative url. Has anybody else been able to download the msi? Matt

I know it seems nonsensical, but it has fixed things for me in the past. Humour me? Matt -

Enjay, can you try explicity delegating full control permissions to the folder and batch file for the user you're trying to run the task as. Matt -

Enjay; When you try to run the task manually and it fails, what is the code in the "Last run result" column. Matt -
Hi, Yesterday I created an MSI for the TrueCrypt 7.1 device driver (i.e. it doesn't include the application itself). This is so that users can use TrueCrypt protected memory sticks without requiring administrative right. I've uploaded the msi here. It was created with WIX and the build file is below (also linked here) for anybody that wants to make modifications (or rebuild for a later version when released). Name='TrueCrypt 7.1 Device Driver' Language='1033' Version='7.1.0.0' Manufacturer='TrueCrypt' UpgradeCode='29590861-525d-4c67-ae8b-ce30e178feb1' > Comments='This will install the TrueCrypt Device Driver and Service.' Manufacturer='TrueCrypt' InstallerVersion='200' Compressed='yes' /> Key="SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\truecrypt" Action="createAndRemoveOnUninstall"> Matt
