  1. Hi guys, I've got a 2007 Xserve that I had been in the process of upgrading from 10.4 to 10.7. I've got 10.7 installed and went to download the server app from the app store, but since mountain lion's release this has been upgraded to require 10.8. Not a problem I think, i'll upgrade the server to 10.8, save for the fact that 10.8 doesn't support my 2007 xserve. Anybody got any good ideas? Need to either force 10.8 onto this server or get hold of the 10.7 server app somehow. Matt
  2. Don't worry you're not alone. I did a very similar thing. How long did it take MS to sort you out? I was on the phone for well over an hour! Matt
  3. I've got an old IBM Bladecenter chassis with upto 10 blades in. Do you want model numbers etc? Matt
  4. I'm talking complete nonsense. I have 3.10, it was sequenced by a colleague. Are you struggling with the same version? Matt
  5. Can't say I have. Are you using the 4.6 SP1 version of the sequencer? I've found it a lot more forgiving than pervious versions. Matt
  6. I'd be looking of doing homemade chinese with just hobs. Prawn toast, egg fried rice, crispy shredded beef and a stir fry (it's always a winner in my house). Matt
  7. Hi, Following on from this; I'm looking to upgrade our current 10.4 server to 10.7 server (as managed preferences don't seem to be working between 10.4 server 10.7 client). I'm considering Arthur's clean install method above. Obvioulsy this cannot be done on the live mac server at the moment, so I'm mini to proof test it before migrating in the summer. Can anybody currently running 10.7 server confirm if settings (specifically workgroup manager settings) are exportable/importable. Or would cloning this mac mini to the xserve be a better approach. Thanks in advance, Matt
  8. You can create a new report based on Aspect (Under Assessment Manager) to list templates. Matt
  9. Solved this. It turns our that when the date range you're looking at is 4 weeks, which equates to a 20 days, each day absent is a lovely rounded 5%. Who'd have thought... (Got to love users) Matt
  10. Hi, Our attendance officer has informed me that the Lesson Monitor Percentage Attendance Report (Under Reports -> Lesson Monitor -> Selected Student Reports -> Percentage Attendance Report) is outputting whole number percentages whereas it used to output to at least 1 decimal place. Can somebody check whether this is what you're experiencing before I report this to the support desk. Thanks Matt
  11. Jesus H Christ, you are mad! Not that I have anything against Ubuntu, but surely that's going to be a support nightmare. Matt
  12. I'd definately have some CD/DVD emulation software on there. My current fave is Virtual Clone Drive. Matt
  13. I've just had a quick look at our traffic logs. We're receiving on average 20GB/day which would equate to around 400GB/Month. Bear in mind though that we are not a boarding school, so your numbers should be higher that our. I don't think your useage is excessive. Matt
  14. I've been called Jesus, and Wolfman at times. Makes me chuckle.
  15. Understood. EBay is still full of con merchants. Matt
  16. It's because Mac parts are either completely unavailable or too expensive. I have a broken Macbook Pro I7 17" in a drawer for this very reason. Matt.
  17. Wow, and we thought SIMS is pants now. Capita poises axe over 1,000 staff - jobs headed to India ? Channel Register
  18. Aye, you're correct. Looks like you'll need to get Software Assurance so that you can run enterprise. Matt
  19. You can just click on a package once it's created (this can either be stored locally or on a network smb\http share). The advantage that the management server gives you is that it automatically populates the start menu and will associate the file types with the correct application. Matt
  20. I'm not pulling information directly from the database I'm afraid. (I can't work out how Capita use foreign keys to relate all their tables together.) I'm just using the low tech method of SIMS built in reporting. Matt
  21. I'd be very interested in this. We currently run a custom django based intranet/extranet that is AD integrated and pulls student/teacher/class details from sims. Like FN-GM says, AD integrating parental login details would be the idea solution but that would be the difficult bit, extracting the right details from SIMS and creating the parents accounts. If you do get anywhere with this please do let us know. Matt
  22. I have no idea. Is your card registered in Aus? Matt
  23. You can have anything from 1 month to 3 years. OS is your choice after order, they have installers for Centos, Debian, Fedora, Ubuntu and Archlinux of varying versions. Matt
  24. How does £1.30/month sound? I've currently got a vps with them which I'm more than happy with for that cost. Matt
