@DaveP Thanks for your reply. My settings are the same as yours in group policy. I have managed to fixed this now after much head scratching. I moved the start menu redirection folders to another share and it is now working okay. There must be some permission related problem with the netlogon folder. Thanks

Hello, I have been trying to get start menu folder redirection working successfully on windows 7. It works perfectly on XP and the first logon works okay on 7. After the second logon the redirected shortcuts do not respond when clicked and the start menu closes. I have also noticed at the second logon that a additional programs folder appears in programs and this has all the shortcuts that are in the main programs and these work when clicked. My setup is as follows: Server\netlogon\redirection\students\start menu\programs\ - various shortcuts in here. Permissions are default permissions of netlogon folder. Start menu redirection event log is successfull every logon. I have tried a new group policy only with this in and blocked inheritance on the OU. Have I missed something? Thanks

Thanks for the post of start menu redirection - I found it useful to confirm I have been setting mine up right. I am having one problem though with windows 7/2008. Start menu redirects fine, as the event log confirms, but the second time a user logs in the start menu shortcuts from the redirected start menu seem to go 'inactive'. Its really strange but they are present with icons and when you click on them the start menu closes instantly. I have set it up as you have in netlogon with the same group policy settings. Works absolutely fine on XP... Any ideas? Thanks

Hello, I am trying to configure start menu redirection for a mixed XP/7/2008 environment. I have setup a folder structure in netlogon for testing - Redirection > Students > Start Menu > Programs. I have pointed to this location in group policy using Basic (Redirect everyone's folder to the same location) and the following options: Grant user exclusive rights to Start Menu - Disabled Move the contents of Start Menu to the new location - Disabled Also apply redirection policy to Windows 2000, Windows 2000 server, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 operating systems - Enabled Policy Removal Behavior - Restore contents When logging in folder redirection applies okay for each OS and the event logs say folder redirection applied successfully every time. However, the second time I log in with the same user account (but only with 7 and 2008) the redirected start menu shortcuts are present but when you click them they close the start menu as if they are inactive. XP is absolutely fine :S Has anybody come across this? Thanks

I have been able to remove the network icon from the start menu and navigation panel okay but users can still access network via the address bar for some unc paths. The article you linked to goes to disabled the run command. If there is a way of hiding or disabling the address bar that would be great. Thanks

Yeah our permissions mostly prevent them from accessing files and shares but there are some such as netlogon that they can get into. If it is possible it would be great to be able to stop them from accessing the network. We are using windows server 2008. Thanks

Hello, I am currently testing Windows 7 to roll out and have got GPO's configured pretty much how I want. One part I cannot change is the Network area on Windows 7. I have managed to hide it via a custom adm template but users can still access it in some places such as a unc path and this allows them access to every computer and their shares. Is there a way to disable the network area? Thanks

Hello, I have been trying to stop users opening help and support via the start menu > all programs with no success. I have tried adding c:\windows\HelpPane.exe & %SystemRoot%\HelpPane.exe to software restriction policy and disallowing them but users can still open it. Can you tell me the exact path you specified in SRP? Thanks

I have looked at that before but never managed to get it working. By specifying the profile location in the AD user properties ts profile tab, should it load that then on a terminal server or is there additional configuration elsewhere?

Hello, We are currently using Windows XP/server 2003 terminal server for the vast majority of our network. We are looking to upgrade to Windows 7/windows server 2008 terminal server which we will phase in. At the moment all students load a windows XP mandatory profile via AD user properties when they log on. I am unsure how I might go about pointing students to mandatory profiles for different OS's (Windows XP, 7 and server 2008). I know a profile V2 (vista onwards) needs to have .v2 appended to the end of its name but this would only allow for distinguishing between 2 mandatory profiles. How do other people go about mandatory profiles in a mixed environment? My understanding of a mandatory profile is that they set settings, defaults and restrictions that cannot be changed. Group policy and preferences can be used to achieve the same thing so maybe there isn't a need for them? Thanks

Hello, I am looking at setting up 2008 R2 remote desktop session host servers. We currently have 2003 terminal servers. My query is regarding the remote desktop licensing server. I know I need this to be running on a 2008 server to match the remote desktop session host servers. We currently have x number of windows server 2003 device cals. Do the terminal server device cals need to be 2008? Thanks

It seems to be working now. I edited the permissions of the exported file to full control earlier and tried again and its now working. Seems to take a bit of time to come through but all look good now. Thanks for your help with this

I installed the software on the PC that the user who shares the calendar uses. This user has setup the custom colour categories so I imported these into the new text file and saved that into a network share. Then on the recipient users outlook I pointed to the text file. I have noticed since that the colour categories are available on the recipient users calendar but not when accessing the shared calendar... Thanks

Thanks for your reply. I was thinking it may be drivers but due to it happening on different printers I was unsure. We use mostly HP printers here. Will have a look at updating the drivers.

Thanks for your post Valyyn. I have tried the software you suggested and it looks great but when I import the categories they are only visable in the inboxand not the calendar section. Any ideas on were I have gone wrong?

Hello, We have recently upgraded to Office 2010 site wide from a mix of 2003 and 2007. Since upgrading we have had a number of users unable to print certain parts of their documents. E.g. - Publisher 2010/pubx format/mixture of text and images - would not print pictures. - Word 2010/docx format - would not print text in text boxes. To fix this I have had to convert them to a 2003 format (doc/pub). These documents have been sent to various different printers. Any one else had these kind of problems? Thanks

The user that sends out the calendar to share has created colour categories and has the events/appointments on the calendar organised into different colours depending on the category. However, these colours are only appearing on the shared calendar for some users and not others. I have checked the calendar permissions and they all match. We are considering 2010 in the future but currently some of our important applications don't officially support it.

Unfortunately office 2003 was not installed via GPO so I can't use that option which would be great. We are going to update some of our images with 2007 but not all. I have installed 2007 with no problems in the past via GPO. What kind of problems can it cause by doing it this way? Thanks

Hello, We are planning to upgrade from office 2003 to 2007 shortly as we have been running both versions in different areas for a while. Many of our classroom computers run office 2003 and I am just wondering of the best way to go about upgrading. Installing 2007 via GP is an option but it doesn't remove 2003 if its already installed. I thought of possibly writing a removal script for 2003 and then installing 2007 via script or GP... Just wondering if anybody has any ideas if they have done something similar before? Thanks
