Well done! I fell really lucky with no experience, went to just one interview and got a phone call 20 1 hour later that i got the job. been an IT technician for 3 years this september, im planning on moving to the Leeds area by the end of this year to live with my girlfriend. My advice, dont stop learning new technology, get as much experience as you can and in 3 years time move on. Good luck

one of our IT teacher was having problems with his computer recently, it would shut off after couple of minutes running time. so he called out PC work engineer. Blow the fluff and dust out of the CPU heat sink and fan started it up worked fine. charged him £90! Any way he told me his story about how he was robbed in his own home and then went on to explain that the computer still wasnt working to great. I felt sorry for him and asked him to bring it in to school and i would take a quick look. He had a nice virus on his machine hidden in the documents and setting folder, romoved that, updated his anti virus did a good tidy up of his files etc....took me a day in between doing work etc. I got a nice bottle of red wine for my efforts, which i gave to my girl friend in turn i got an even better reward

is device manager flagging any problems?

Scarping the test here to. this is the last year we will be running it. waste of time and kids think its crap.

We set up a work post box for the kids to drag the work in to the teachers folders. that way the work can be checked and be printed off when its finished. both the staff and kids love it. I was told that the Middlesbrough accademy spend £40k a year on both paper and printer tonner/drum units etc.

I have attached part of the script for one computer. problem with this is i need to modify 90 computers that all have the same folders that i wish apply the permission updates too I've tried using a wildcard for the computer names i.e. cr1-* rather than cr1-01, cr1-02.....etc but the wild card seems to not have any affect. :oops: is the any way i can tidy it up or is what i've done the best it can be? never used xcacls so its been a tiny learning curve for me cheers permission_script.txt

Hi, i need to change folder permissions on 90 computers and i would like to do it remotely using a bat file. is this possible? the current folders on the remote machines are not shared. so far i have managed to create a bat file to run a machine it self. any ideas much apreciated

We had a problem with our main server triping the power, we had a dedicated ring installed just for the server room. Have'nt had a trip ever since. I would have the council electrician pop in and discuss a solution. Not alot you can do.
