Ben cheers, i should have checked the link. i wonder if the msi files will be available for free :?: -
when i started i had a btec electronics angineering and A+ I know the pay is not great but i accepted it, due to no experience in IT, well only experience i had was from playing around with computers at home. Over the last 3 years i have done the N+, mcp (xp and server 2003) and studying the ccna. the ccna finishes in jan, so thats the time for me to leave the north east and start looking for work in west yorkshire area. i wont be going back to education. would much rather go in to industry

stick by your guns mate. Do not allow them admin rights. im sick of teachers who think they know all and they do what the can to get what they want even if it means tramppling all over us. ICT teachers wanted write/modify permissions for kids work folders. I had given them read permisions so they could check the kids work. I told them no way....Never. Crap i will come down for you and drum it in to your boss head for you if you like

I went in to pc world ONCE to look around and have a few heart attacks while my girlfriend was shopping for shoes. could not help but listen into a conversation between a sales man and 2 old poeple. he was trying to sell them a £2k system that was basically a games machine. the old guy started the conversation by saying he no idea what to get and he just wanted to send his grand children emails etc. any way the sales man had to go get some information. this is when i jumped in and explained to him that he did not need to spend such crazy amounts of money on a system that he would only use for sending emails. and that he would get a much better deal if he went else were i.e. online or a local shop. with that they thanked me and left the shop

need help with few A+ core questions
bishopsgarthstockton replied to projector1's topic in General Chat
A+ may seem out of date but it teaches you what our ancestors used and how it has changed over the last 25+ years. with knowing the foundation of how the old stuff works it helps you to understand how the new technology works today. also as we all know everything old is new again... cant see how the floppy disk will make a come back -

@ maniac do the laptops have to connect any were in the school? can you not control where they can and can not? your situatin sounds like a right nightmare its intresting to see why 5 laptops would take so long to logon. it sounds as if cant decide which AP to connect to laptop 1 hey im going to conect to this AP laptop 2 hey im connecting to this one, get your own laptop 1 you bully 7 min later.... laptop 1 aaaahaa! found one My precious  -

@ gwendes i have setup each laptop manually with only 3 ssid. you can how ever with 3com add 10 laptops wireless MAC addresses to the allow list on the AP. another much more simple method is to use RADIUS but im not sure how to set it up. pluss i think you have to buy additional software for the server. -
Wireless networks and large groups of laptops
bishopsgarthstockton replied to maniac's topic in Wireless Networks
each laptop has been individually setup to connect to a persific AP. laptop 1 can connect to ENG001A, DT001A, HUM001A laptop 2 can connect to ENG002A, DT002A, HUM002A laptop 3 can connect to ENG003A, DT003A, HUM003A laptop 4 can connect to ENG001A, DT001A, HUM001A etc this takes out the decision process for the laptop and no more than 10 will ever connect to a AP. -

Hi, I setup a mobile classroom of 30 laptops last summer. the mobile classroom is used in 3 rooms, Humanities, Design and technology and English. The AP i use are 3com 802.11b/g/a, the laptops have been configured to use only the 802.11a as it is more fault tollerant. the 3 rooms have 3 AP each so thats 10 laptops per AP. I wont let the laptops be used any were alse in the school even if you can still pick up the point, this just simply cuts down the problem as you abvouisly start to lose signal strength. Up to now it has worked really well, had a couple of odd problems such as user not been able to log on as domain not available etc. also its not a good idea to push out software using Group policy as when the kids come to log on during lesson this can as you would imaging cause a lot of problems and delays. My self and the IT coorinator manage the laptop booking. each lesson is about 50 minuts i think so we only allow for 3 back to back lessons of use. its a pain in the ass when it comes to updating the laptops or sending out a new ghost image. If you are ghosting i would conect the machines using cat5.
