Hi, I buy the books and download TestOut training videos, which are interactive and have set exam questions. I have also set up my own lab, if you get the MS press books they come with lab exercices. technet is great for information too and forums are always a good source to get info and help. MCSE 2003 is worth doing, pluss you can upgrade to MCSE 2007 and not have to do all the MCSE 2007 exams. theres loads of MCSE exam quastions on the net. save your pocket money and do it your self. Well worth it.

the A+ and N+ talked me the basics, pluss from an electronics engineering background, i personally feel i made the best decision. may be in a few years time i may consider looking at doing an OU computer degree.

I would stay clear of degree. I went to Uni for about a month when i decided a computing degree was a waste of time. I left uni to study from home. I started with the easy stuff and did Comptia A+ and N+ after that i went on to do the 70-270 exam MS XP and now im working on the 70-290 Slowly working towards MCSE. as well as im doing the CISCO CCNA course at local CLC £500. Im happy i jacked uni in, i have got loads more experience and probably better qualified than some one with a graduate degree. stay well away from thouse companies that offer IT training, i went down that route and they went bust. i had to pay back my loan. Its cheaper and easyer to go out and buy the books. Also emule has plenty of testOut videos to watch.

Hi, We are looking at spending a bit of money in the Art department to bring it up to speed. We are looking at buying, 1 x A3 color laser printer, 3 x A3 Scanners, and a Digital video camera for the kids to do video editing. Any recomendations? cheers

Why dosent the lea suggest open source software like moodle. im totaly confused to why you would need to pay for something when you can have it for free. pluss the govement could spend the money else where in schools. am i been plain dumb?

we use NOD32 here, and the support is excellent.

apparently vmware player should allow me to do a screen capture and paste in to ms word on the host machine. no in fo on the vmware forum to sugest a fix to the problem.

Realy stupid question. are they all password protected? If im not mistaken im sure you can do a restart via web

Hi gang Happy new year right this probably cannot be done but here we go. i currently have windows XP running on vmware player. It works fine but the problem i have is, i would like to take a screen shot in the vmware player and then switch to the host machine (XP pro SP2) to paste the screen shot in to MS Word or MS Paint. I have installed the VMware tools which has allowed me to drag files and folders from the vmware player to the host machine. i can however copy text and paste in to MS Word on the host machine. hope that makes sense. so what i need to do is take a screen shot of something in vmware player and switch to the host machine to paste in to ms word. at the moment i could just save the image and then drag across to the host but that will take to long. cheers :?

im using it here with the kids. Our year 10 kids have started the OCR nationals and we needed them to be able to do stuff that they cant normally do i.e. make shortcuts to .exe, search, use outlook etc etc. if they hack it up it takes litterally max 4 min to put right. My self and the ICT coordinator have just done a test today by running through what the kids have to do and it went well. Im taking alook at Karoshi tomorrow as i think it will help out alot with some of the issues i can see we may have as we go along

We had sophos here, it never worked properly. The management console was rubbish. Our local authority switched to NOD32. We installed that and haven’t looked back, fantastic

you need to setup redirecting of startmenu and desktop etc

we have it set up here. i suggest that in the start menu | programs have diffrent subject areas so ICT have ICT software, Science have their own software. so depending wehre you are in the school you schose the subject. hope that makes sense. works really well here. we have a whole school part to the program file menu. its easy to do just need to decide how you want to organize it blah... hmm hope i make sense here

sounds like it could be a permissions problem. do you know where the registration file is i would login as a user and run REGMON and FILEMON. is the anything support on there site?

@fooby search keeps a history of what you last searched for. i have it search for the useral music file extensions. i just set it to search the users folder and walk away. i then just organze user names and delete what i think shouldnt be there. only takes 5 to 10 min. so it dosent take much effort. i have it search for . bat, compresed and .exe files too. just another simple house keeping job that dosent take to much effort.

Radio station sites were grinding us to a halt. solution to the problem was to block the sites and only open them at end of term i.e. christmas and summer time. I don't think kids can listen to music and get top marks in the GCSE's Mp3, wma are deleted from the server weekly. I just say we are breaking copyright laws, pluss when you find about 10 copies of bloody 2pac on the server it gets a little silly. If you block flash, how do the kids get on to bbc bite size and other educational website games. another political argument with staff, kids and the Geeks
