That's actually a good point, and I'm now wondering whether to leave 'Fast boot' disabled. This kind of defeats the purpose of a supposedly positive feature of W10, but as you say, I'd rather a working setup than constantly making allowances for its shortcomings. That said, disabling fast boot may not solve problems like this, and it seems to be fairly random, but I'm due to rollout this Summer so I'd like to see solutions to these problems asap... I did wonder whether to disable fast boot purley on the grounds of being able to access the partition externally - if I ever needed to. Apparently the system partition isn't readily accessible offline with fast boot enabled.

I like the idea of the auto-delayed service startup. I've actually done that for a handful of other services that I know can handle that kind of change and it certainly does speed things up just a little. Thanks gents

Do these machines have SSDs ? as I keep seeing a trend of posts whereby things are run too quickly and possibly bypassed as a result of the OS wanting to get to the login/desktop...

Might not be related at all, but I had similar problems when I tried running a script during GPO - said it couldn't find the file specified, even though when I typed the exact same 'launch command' from post-login it worked without issues. For me, it came down to who was really running the script when it was being launched, as I was referring to a drive letter, rather than a full UNC path. School boy error! Detention for me. Edit: If it helps, you could try running your script as the SYSTEM user, just to see if it is an access/permission problem...

Do you have any Chrome policies in place? Try disabling them... Do you have any added extensions? Disable them... Also worth going to chrome://components/ and checking for updates on each component. To access it, type chrome://conflicts into Chrome’s address bar and press Enter."

Be worth looking in the Event Logs on an affected machine to look for errors/warnings. If you want some peace-of-mind in relation to suspicious activity, grab yourself a copy of cPorts from here; Run as Administrator and it should show you the general networking activity going on for that PC, including apps that are listening to certain ports...

+1 for Zen. Never had a problem. Called the tech support for equipment recommendations and they were excellent, very knowledgeable. I ended up switching to them for my own home/office connection. I could definitely pay less elsewhere, but I'd rather have quality. I've always used the reg method, adding those entries to the Default User registry. However, GPO is probably better practice. I haven't yet tried the registry on a Windows 10 client, be interested to hear your final solution.

You're welcome. Perhaps like yourself I don't like not being able to solve a problem, but there comes a time when I have to say to myself - this is just not worth all this hassle. You could always place an Offered post in the hardware section of edugeek. Learning is good. As a general rule of thumb, either buy memory from the motherboard's compatibility list - a very limited list, or use the memory suppliers website to short list compatible memory for your system. I tend to just stick with Crucial.com. All the best

You'll have to try and set the settings using the old memory, save the settings, then shutdown. Swap the memory and see if that moves you forward. However, this is all a bit of a shot in the dark considering that memory just might not be compatible at all with your board. Since you've already dealt with GSkill to return the first lot, I suggest you contact them and get them to suggest a suitable replacement. If you don't want the hassle, just put the old ram back in and have done with it.

If that didn't work, increase the voltage to 1.55v

Can you try these settings with one of your GSkill memory sticks inserted. Frequency 1333, DRAM Timings tCL 8 - tRCD 8 - tRP 8 - tRAs 24, DRAM Voltage 1.50V

Interestingly, I can't find your motherboard in the GSkill RAM configurator. How did you come to buy that model of memory? Did you go through a compatibility list check somewhere?

Okay, well there's a few other things you could try before closing this chapter. What revision of the motherboard do you have, rev 1.0 or rev 2.0 ? GIGABYTE - Support - Downloads Do you have the latest BIOS firmware? (asked previously by difinity) List the full make and model of the memory you have and we'll see if we can track down the timings you'd need to set to force it to run at 1333 MHz (maybe the auto settings are making a bad choice)

I'm pretty sure it is the frequency (and timings), as ZeroHour suggested. That CPU can't operate on 1600MHz, even if the memory can. Take a look at the Intel ARK info Make sure the MoBo isn't using the XMP profile, as that may well be trying to set freq. to 1600. Manually set frequency to 1333MHz and leave the other stuff the same that was working with the older memory - probably all Auto anyway??
