Exclude directories in roaming profile - not working
Scottyboy99 replied to Scottyboy99's topic in Windows 7
Yes our AppData folder is redirected, I have tried excluding just the Cookies folder to see if it applies so entered AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies in to the policy but no matter where I put the policy (applying to a user or a computer) it doesn't apply. Any help would be great. Thanks -
Good Afternoon everyone, We are in the process of trying to exclude the following paths from the roaming profile to try and reduce network traffic: AppData\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations AppData\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations AppData\Microsoft\Templates\LiveContent\Managed AppData\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies AppData\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries AppData\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar We setup the 'Exclude directories in roaming profile' policy but we cannot get this to work, it is being applied but the folders we ask to be excluded are still being included. Has anybody else had experiences with this policy? Cheers Scott

Thanks for the replies. The SAN installation was before my time but I believe it was, as said, an easy way of visualisation as most of our servers are virtual. I am waiting for a reply from Dell Compellent and yes our firmware is out of date so we will look at upgrading that in the holidays. We are running Wireshark as I type this so hopefully that flags something up, it hasn't previously when we ran it though.

Hi All, We are having major problems at the moment with our curriculum computers freezing and crashing once logged in browsing network drives and saving etc. We have been through the images with a fine tooth comb and everything looks ok (we are running Windows 7 64-bit and most of our PCs are Intel i5 with 8GB RAM) Therefore we are now looking at problems with our network/infrastructure and today we can across this graph on our SAN: It shows one of our iSCSI cards flatling during a period where we were getting complaints of slowness/freezing/hanging in the ICT Suites. Has anybody got any ideas why this would happen? Bearing in mind our SAN turned it self off during the summer for no apparent reason we are a bit worried. Cheers Scott

Random Windows 7 PCs logging users on with Classic theme
Scottyboy99 replied to MrWu's topic in Windows 7
We had this problem when migrating to Windows 7 this time last year. In the end I forced the Aero theme on Group Policy (see here: Solution 1 Windows 7 Aero Theme Not Enabled After Deployment - AutoIt Consulting). Obviously make sure you run gpupdate /force after setting this up on GP.. I hope this helps you too! Cheers -
Morning everyone, This summer we purchased Adobe CS6 Master Collection and it has been installed on all computers. It has become apparent that the Adobe PDF printer becomes the default printer for all users once logged in, even though Group Policy is set to make the network printer default. Has anyone else come across this and come up with a solution? Any help would be great. Thanks Scott

[wds] Images not updating/appearing on WDS Clients...
Scottyboy99 replied to Scottyboy99's topic in O/S Deployment
Oops. Ignore me! - I had the old server on and didn't realise so it was connecting to that one, not the new one! Feel free to delete this tread -
Morning Everyone, We have a problem with our WDS Server (Windows Server 2012), I installed all of the images from our old WDS Server and they work perfectly. However, Yesterday I installed a brand new image for our Music PCs and it isn't appearing on the list of available images but it is appearing on the server as Online. I have tried removing it and reinstalling it but that made no difference. I have tried restarting the server, I have also checked the permissions. I am slightly concerned because even if I disable an image so it is Offline - it doesn't disappear from the list of images on the client. Therefore it is apparent that the server isn't updating the list of images correctly! HELP! Cheers Scott

Hi Everyone, We need to make a decision today whether to go to SIMS or Progresso... We are edging strongly towards Progresso, but we have heard there are issues with Internet Explorer 9. One school has informed us that it is very unreliable with IE9 and that some features only work in IE8 and other features only work with Firefox(?!) Can anyone shed some light on this? - We have IE9 installed on every computer so we really need to know if there are any issues. Thanks in advance! Scott

We have a few classrooms and laptops still on XP, but the current machines won't take 7, so hopefully they are being replaced in the summer. Then we will be a Windows 7 site (bar a few iMacs currently running Mountain Lion). I recently upgraded out Gravograph Laser Cutter machine to W7. I had to email Gravograph for the latest drivers but they sent them and it works with no problems now .

I dislike Google Chrome for this, I have been trying for a while to stop Students from installing other Browsers.. I have added all the executables like Chrome.exe to the 'Don't run specified Applications' GPO.. This works most of the time unless they rename it.. Now we have quick computers with Windows 7 and IE9 in the majority of the school, students don't bother as much to install 'quicker' browsers. Plus everything we have in school like OWA and Frog etc is designed to run on Internet Explorer so this puts them off too. It still really annoys me when they install any software that isn't something we put on and I don't want to install alternative browsers on the computers because it conflicts with IE and causes problems (I've tried). Grrr.

Software to turn off Internet in all rooms for set time
Scottyboy99 replied to Kyle's topic in Windows
We have to do this during controlled assessments and use LanSchool to limit web on particular machines. You can allow certain websites too which is useful, e.g. you can allow your VLE or OWA etc. -
Hi All, We are now a Windows 7 majority site and it all works brilliantly except the desktop background deployment. Currently we are using bginfo.exe and it doesn't deploy the first time a person logs on, they need to log off and log back on the same computer for it to deploy. I have tried Group Policy and I get the usual black background problem. What method do you use? Any help would be good. Thanks

We have been buying Zoostorm computers for about 3 years. We currently have over 300 of them with varied specs (the latest ones have an i5 CPU and 8GB RAM with 500GB HDD for only £300 ex VAT!) Only had a few failures but its usually just the power supply or the HDD and they failed before the warranty ran out so we just claimed for replacements. The oldest ones are still going strong and I have to say I'm quite impressed with how rugged they are for the money. As others have said, you get a decent keyboard and mouse in the box too! We've never had a problem imaging them with SCCM or WDS and they come with CDs with all the drivers on them, although if you are still running XP you may find it hard to get the correct drivers. I would recommend them if your on a budget. Try Millgate or Millenium Computers for the best deals on them, we specify them without CD/DVD drives so they students have nothing to play with. Cheers.

Evening all, I have the pleasure of setting up our new iMacs (24 of them) with Mountain Lion and software such as Office, Final Cut pro, Adobe CS3, AutoDesk etc. Now, instead of going round each one and installing the software manually, it there anyway of setting up one and capturing it to deploy to the others (like WDS)? We have a Mac OSX Lion Server to deploy the image from if that helps? Any help appreciated, Cheers Scott

Hi All, I'm trying to install Windows 8 on my Zoostorm PC (P8H61-MX) and it keeps asking for a 'Media Driver' on Setup. I presume it is looking for a HDD Controller driver, so I have tried all the drivers which came on a CD with the PC and on the Zoostorm website with no joy. Anyone know which driver I need? Cheers Scott

Hi All, I recently designed a new desktop background for all curriculum computers. I created it as 1280x1024 because most of our screens are that size. However we do have a few classrooms with widescreen monitors. My question is, how do I set different desktop backgrounds depending on screen resolution? We are using bginfo and a script at the moment. Any help would be great. Cheers Scott

How messy is your IT Room? or Server Room
Scottyboy99 replied to stevenlong1985's topic in How do you do....it?
I think we may have one of the the tidyest offices and server room. I cannot work in a mess, it irritates me.
