For awhile I'd avoided using Gen2 Hyper-V disks as I couldn't get them to PXE Boot. No problem with Gen 1 disks, PXE booted absolutely fine. However, with new servers ready to go, I felt compelled to finally fix the issue so that everything on the new servers was the best that Server 2012R2 could provide. So, the initial issue was that I was getting the error PXE E23 when trying to PXE boot a Gen 2 VHD with Server 2012r2 and MDT 2013. Helpfully, @l15ard had pointed me in the right direction with his thread here: Pxe-e23-error-gen2-hyper-v-fix However, I had no idea how to 'Force x64 UEFI architecture'. Indeed, the file the VM was trying to pull down had 0 bytes. Which I thought was unusual, so I dived onto the MDT Server to see if I could find the file. For those interested, the file it was trying to pull down was boot\x64\wdsmgfw.efi and this is stored in the RemoteInstall share. Unsurprisingly, the file wasn't there. A bit of Google-Fu and I wasn't completely the wiser as to why the file wasn't where it was supposed to be. There was a lot of talk about DHCP options but this didn't seem relevant to me (but might be to someone else with this issue) as I didn't actually have the files it was looking for. Now some of you are probably way ahead of me, but eventually inspiration from somewhere hit. I hadn't installed a x64 Boot.wim into WDS. I haven't needed to install a boot.wim for quite some time, but the process is pretty simple: 1, Mount a Windows disk that has a x64 Boot.wim in the sources folder (Server 2012r2, Windows 10 etc) 2, Load up the WDS Console 3, Right click Boot Image and Add Boot image, browsing to the mounted disk in stage 1 Then bingo, the required file is there! But, I've been using MDT and Lite Touch as my deployment method of choice. So I needed to create a x64 version of my Lite Touch deployment: 1, Open up MDT Deployment Workbench 2, Right Click MDT Deployment Share 3, General tab, tick x64 as supported 4, Windows PE tab, platform x64, tick Generate a Lite Touch bootable ISO image. 5, Click OK and then right click the MDT Deployment Share again and 'Update Deployment Share'. This should create you a Lite Touch Bootable ISO you can then import into WDS. But this tale doesn't end here. PXE booting was working, but by heavens it was slow. @mdrabble had experienced the same issue and it tickled something in the back of my mind too. The fault is with the Broadcom NetXtreme NICs that came with my lovely HP servers. HP have released drivers that fixed the problem, or you can manually go into the properties of the NICs and turn off VMQ (Virtual Machine Queuing). Since my NICS were only connected at 1gb, VMQs were not going to improve the performance at all, so I turned them off on the NICs. Problem solved, PXE booting on Gen 2 Hyper-V VHDs at rapid speed now attained.

Yeah, we had the Youtube Restricted mode modification set. Once we removed that (but kept the Youtube Safety Cookie) everything worked fine. Will look at the Youtube:-Restrict: Moderate as an extra safety feature though

But still no dice... I can see from the web log that the student account is being redirected to restrict.youtube.com when accessing the supposedly unblocked video. Am I missing something glaringly obvious?

Does anyone know how to stop Windows 10 from auto-upgrading to the latest version? We've hit a snag with the latest Creators update in that it is stopping the ScoMIS connector working with a security error. We're having to manually copy the old Remote desktop files on each machine as it updates (ala this kb article) which is less than ideal... We've got a group policy in place to 'Turn off the upgrade to the latest version of Windows through Windows Update' but this seems to only stop Windows 7/8 from upgrading to 10. Our WSUS doesn't download or install the Creators update, but as soon as staff take their laptops home, Windows update grabs the Creators update and installs... Any help gratefully received!

Apologies, a bit of a necro thread, but I can't work out how to do this. Youtube has blocked some videos our English department want to use (About ) and restricted mode has kicked in. I've created a category on Smoothwall and set it to Allow, then whitelist under Web filter policies, and that didn't work. Then tried adding the same category Content Modification, and 'Ignore' and no dice there either. What I have noticed is that when I hit save to add the Youtube URL to the category, Smoothwall makes everything lower case, and Youtube video URLs rely on upper and lower case characters. Any help gratefully received!

Sorry to throw the thread on a slight tangent, but what size and cost LCD touch screens did you go for? As projectors start to need replacing, I would like an alternative to the Casio projectors we've been installing...

You can also try opening your Chrome properties and then adding the following to the end of your Chrome Target --winhttp-proxy-resolver so it should look something like: "C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --winhttp-proxy-resolver

These, especially the the top two. I understand it's important, but I would like to know how to actually carry out the nuts and bolts of what's required, or at least, find a company who are willing to provide training.

Thank you all, managed to turn off voice over and the screen came back to life... I swear if the kids used their ingenuity in their exams, we'd have a bunch of geniuses.

Might be the only solution...

A student has, on a school iPad, managed to turn on voice over at full speed, disable the wireless, and make the screen go blank. I can hear it, as I'm tapping things, it sounds like a demented chipmunk on speed talking jibberish. If I reboot it, I get a flash of the apple logo and the home screen, so I don't think it's a hardware issue. I worked out that if I take a screenshot, it gives me a flash of the screen, so I got into setting and slowed down the voiceover, but I can't work out for the life of me how they've managed to kill the screen. If I could hook it to the wireless I could wipe it with the MDM, but they must be hundreds of screenshots on the damn iPad now! Anyone got any ideas?

Really enjoyed it, nice twisty plot, similar to 9 lives, 9 hours, 9 doors. Tempted with the sequel, but such a back catalog to complete...
