  2. any one tried it on a surface RT yet?
  3. netsh dhcp server export c:\dhcp How to use the Netsh utility to export and import DHCP scopes
  4. I use DFRS on home drives but only allow 1 target so everyone always connects to one file server because of quotas really. but in the past i've failed it over manually to the other one and no one noticed whilst i repaired the other so it does work nicely (though you need to have everyone mapped via DFS not the actual server\share). you can scheduled replication windows if you don't want it to replicate during the day that's no problem.
  5. I would like to add my internal CA root cert to Firefox has anyone done this? is there an easy way to push this out to all FF installs around the school?
  6. I'm with Localzuk on this, they do look like good replacements for teachers laptop. I was considering similar asking for Samsung ATIV Smart Pro Tablet PC with Clamshell Keyboard / Intel Core i5-3317UM / 11.6" LED / 4GB / 64GB / Windows 8 Professional / Free 5 Year Warranty / Free 5 Year Warranty - www.misco.co.uk if the Atom ones could come down they could be good bits of classroom kit.
  7. we use shared accounts for staff to print to and we get the membership from our AD groups ie Business Studies Teachers. that way if a teacher teaches more than one subject they have a choice of where to charge to. report is automatically emailed to finance officer each month. we currently don't charge students but we are looking at it, instead they get a set amount of credit and if they need more they just come and ask us.
  8. using smart cards, they are credit card like tokens that have a Certificate on them that belongs to the user so they authenticate via PKI using there smart card and PIN its built into windows there is just scant documentation about on the internet. it looks quite easy to produce the cards for the users and smart card readers are about 15 GBP, as are the Cards. no other software or servers are required.
  9. I am not sure this is the right thread because my question is more has anyone done this as a quick and easy way to get 2FA for remote log Only i am thinking about implementing it for staff as remote access does allow them to sensitive data. I had a chat with a company and what you need to implement it isn't expensive and sounds fairly straight forward Smartcard Focus :: Home Smart cards, card readers. tweak the CA server to issues special certs. and simply copy the Cert onto the smart card. only there is so little info on the web about it if anyone has implemented it either generally in Windows or in particular on a TS Gateway i'd love to hear from you. Thanks
  10. mine seemed to activate but it was a long time ago and i no longer have any with the same CMID just as long as you have more than the threshold of five different ones. not sure about reinstalling, though its testable as im sure you can get the CMID out of the KMS server logs.
  11. As long as you don't run office after rearming it you shouldn't need to rearm it every time you recreate the image. When i first installed office 2010 i didn't know about rearming it, and so none of my copies activated until i rearmed 5 computers then they did all activate.

  13. here is my 2012 server that hosts basically the student and staff shared area plus the network programs share. i've not got enough virtual servers on my 2012 server yet to get a good idea of the Dedupe rates there yet.
  14. i updated my kms server with the office 2013 preview key and any office 2010 copies still activate just fine

  21. in my gpp it only goes up to IE 8 (win7 machien with ie9 installed) dose that mean i need to use a win 8 machien with RSAT installed on to set it that way?
  22. cant you use the Autodetect setting in ie and host the pac file as a wpad.dat on a webserver and make a dns entery for wpad that way at home the dns looup fails and it defaults to direct connection, where as at work it works. a side note have you tried rebuilding the image on the affected machiens its not related but i took a win7 pro machien that was a one off and just added it to the domain but make avalible off line wasnt on the context menu and i couldnt get offline files to work at all after a day i gave up and resintalled it from scratch and it was there..

  24. i used to have an all staff list but replaced it with two Academic and Support. we have others too like SLT and Subject Teacher lists. we dont get that much rubbish coming through, though i created the academic and support to mostly stop support staff getting purely teaching related issues
