I have to disagree with that. Previous installs of Ubuntu I had to fiddle with on my Acer Aspire 5051AWXMi becuase the audio wasn't working properly. It wouldn't mute the external speakers when headphones were pluged in. I tried every guide I could find and yet I still had to resort to manually muting and unmuting the external speakers. Also my latest install of Kubuntu on my desktop wouldn't detect the native resolution of my TV so I had to do numerous things to actually get it to work, things which I do not remember. I used to like Ubuntu but they've changed the latest versions and I'm not keen on the layout. Also, thanks very much for the tip. I had no clue it was that simple.

I didn't have a problem with Legard. I thought he was a decent enough commentator. I do however think that having DC and Brundle in the box will be better.

Well I can't wait for the new F1 season. I'd hope that the Lotus controversy is resolved, it just devalues the Lotus name. I hope that the newer teams manage to catch up a bit in terms of overall speed and are more competitive. I also wanna see Schumi get his act together, last season there were numerous valid reasons that he struggled. The best seasons I have seen in recent years were 2008 and 2009. '08 was the year that traction control and other driver aids were removed and Melbourne was so eventful due to this. '09 was obviously the year of Brawn GP and their fantatsic story and also had the rise of Red Bull to the front of the grid.

There are I think...I'm just not one of them as I have no talent and do not define myself as musical. Lol.

Are you referring to the keyboard or the touchpad buttons? I like a slightly click touchpad button but the keyboard keys would preferably be firm, smooth and not too clicky. I despise laptops with the soft click toucpad buttons and laptops with overly soft keyboard buttons. The number of times I've not been sure whether I've clicked on an icon or when I acccidentally double-tap a key and spell something incoreectly.

Exactly why I like it. Yeah I'm using a fairly well known laptop (a Dell Lattitude D520) but everything just works. It saw my wireless and the audio worked without having to be tweaked (not like an Ubuntu install on my Aspire 5051AWXMi). I fear I may be getting overly excited.

They now use Toyota 1.8 vvti engines, or at least they did at last check.

Last night I picked up Linux Format again and decided to get on with installing a distro on my spare laptop, as that's what I acquired it for. So as I was reading through the magazine, I noticed that Linux Mint 10 (included on cover disc 140) was apparently loaded with media codecs. So I installed it, booted up and was greeted by an interface that seems to suit my liking without requiring a lot of fiddling. This little distro may actually see me moving further away from Windows. The biggest downside I've had in the past is the need to fiddle to get so many things working. With Mint however, my D520 needed nothing...apart from it could do with a memory upgrade and a bigger HDD but I have those if needed. Anybody else have a similar experience? Either recently or once upon a time.

Yeah, a console would make sense. Now it's just a matter of using the USB cable to sync your PS3 controller and Bob's your uncle. I don't know how Wiis or Xbox 360s work but I'd imagine it's not that much harder.

Ahh, the user with multiple AV programs. I don't know how many times I have to tell people of the resource hogging, program conflicts and just the general PITA that the issue causes.

Be interesting to see what you think. On a side note, when I sort myself out, I fancy picking my guitar up again. I've never learned much to actually play but it's always a nice thing to pass the time with.

Someone a Vauxhall fan there? Lol. Any Vauxhall engine is pretty tuneable. The Astra I had I think it's engine code was Z16XE and I had a Performance Vauxhall mag that had a 300BHP Astra with an almost identical engine. Incidentally I was tempted to buy the bolt-on turbo kit that was advertised to give about 40% more power from a bog-standard engine.

I have a Desire (on T-Mobile) and mine's been fine since 2.2 but then again 2.2 came out just before I got mine so I have no comparison. The signal sometimes does drop out a bit but I think that with 3G phones, they do it a lot when switching between 2G and 3G.

I'd recommend a used post 2001 Civic Type-R. 200BHP and 6.7s 0-60. Also about 30-35mpg.

At 22 I still haven't voted. No matter who gets into Downing Street, they'll be corrupt within minutes and going back on their promises. I think if I ever do vote, it'll be for the Mad Raving Loony party...at least we'll be entertained while the country goes up the swanny.

Really?? That's pretty cool. I remeber all that Jazz about using resonance to destory things like building and bridges but definitely didn't know that.

I often find teachers very stingey. Most of our teachers will refuse to buy anything we recommend (in order to make their life easier) and instead usually ask us if we have any spare. Like the time a certain head of year came in and asked us to look at her daughter's personal PC. As we were nice guys at the time, we did it without moaning. It needed a new hard disk...cue the HOY saying she hasn't got the money (on over £40k per year) and neither does her daughter. At the time, the hard disk she needed was only about £30.

Didn't some of the Pentium 4s come with a 64bit instruction set, or is this an early model?

@LosOjos: I understand that, I'm just looking to move on to somewhere else. My plan is to take a sort of break from tech support for a while and then get back into it later, once I've done a couple of basic certifications. I'd hope that being a part of Apple, they would maybe look kindly on my doing Apple certifications and that I might be able to advance myself to another job role this way. My way of looking at this is, that even if it doesn't work out the way I hope then I'm young enough to go wherever I want. @aerospacemango: You're right, I would like the gadgety aspect of things and that's one of the things that appeals to me. I am a self-confessed gadget-freak.
