Hi all. Having a problem with Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2015 and wondering if anyone can help. If I launch the application as an administrator or unrestricted user, it runs fine. If I run it as a student user with redirected app data, home drive, profile etc. it crashes on loading, stating dvaui.dll as the faulting dll file. It seems like a permissions/appdata type issue but I just can't fix it. All other Adobe CC applications work OK, just not Premiere. Windows 7 x64 workstation. If anyone has experienced the same thing, I'd appreciate the help.

I didn't ever solve this unfortunately. The registry key method that I mentioned doesn't work and it's definitely due to the timing of when the registry keys are implemented, which is too late for it to affect the users settings. Anyone else with suggestions on how to manage the language bar in Windows 7 greatly appreciated

Hi all. I'm leaving NZ for 5 weeks in September and coming to the North of England. I work as the Director of eLearning at a high school here, and am keen to come and visit some schools that are using ICT and eLearning extensively. Am really interested in seeing things like school-wide wifi, BYOD, iPads or other devices in the classroom, and the PD and pedagogical stuff behind it all. I'm keen to meet IT Managers, Tech's and eLearning managers and facilitators. I'll be based in Carlisle, but am willing to travel around the North. If anyone is able to spare me a few hours for a chat, that'd be most appreciated. I'm also thinking of going to this conference and wondering if anyone has any opinions on it? I'm from Carlisle, and have a combination of Kiwi/Cumbrian accent so hopefully you'll be able to understand what I'm saying..... :-)

Something that's been driving me insane for a few weeks and wondering if anyone on here has a solution..... I want to manage the 'Language Bar' in Windows 7. When our students logon (to Windows 7x64 clients) I want them to see the language bar, and have a number of languages added to it. This is a request from our Languages department and was something that we did in Windows XP with the default user profile. We aren't using profiles in Windows 7 however. We have 'volatile' users that are removed when they logout. The main method I've been trying to use revolves around populating these 2 registry keys: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CTF\LangBar HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Keyboard Layout\Preload My understanding is that the first key controls the visibility and appearance of the language bar, and the second key controls the keyboard languages that are available. I've tried a number of ways of implementing these keys (Logon scripts, Group Policy Preferences, ADM Files) but none of them have worked. The issue that we are having is exactly as documented here but unfortunately the solution doesn't work. I think it's to do with the timing of when the registry keys are being implemented, and that it's too late for it to take effect on the users session. So has anyone got this to work, or does anyone have any other alternatives? Seems like such a simple thing but....

So do I need to do both things? Disable Known Folders AND the ADM file? I've tried each individually, and the ADM file did remove the libraries feature from the navigation bar, but NOT from the open or save dialog boxes. Any help appreciated

I know this subject has been discussed all over the place, but does anyone have a clear, concise guide on how to remove the 'Libraries' feature of Windows 7? Is it even possible? I've read this post and many others, and have implemented the adm file that did succesfully remove the Libraries, Homegroup and Network icons from the navigation bar. However, this does not remove the libraries feature in the Open or Save dialog boxes. When opening or saving documents, Students are now presented with opening or saving from their 'libraries' folder, rather than the common save locations that they are used to. Folder redirection means that the places shown in their 'Libraries' are actually their home drives (which is good), but I want it to say 'Home Drive' or for them to be able to browse to the 'Student Shared Drive', rather than being locked into saving in folders within the libraries. I hope this makes sense.

Hi all. Does anyone know anything about these We bought some from Insite here in NZ a few years ago and they have been brilliant. They are ugly, but incredibly functional and the least hard work of any desktop PC I've ever come across with regards to maintenance, vandalism etc. Anyway, it looks like they are no longer available here in NZ and I'm struggling to find anything about them on the interweb. I thought that they were manufactured by a UK based company and then imported into NZ but now I can't find anything about that either. I'm in the market for a new labs worth of machines and would love to get hold of these again if possible, but maybe they aren't being made anymore? Cheers

Hey, how did you get on with the Pixma IX7000 Printers? Looking at replacing our Pro9000s with something networkable and thought the IX7000, although theoretically lesser quality, would be a good option?

Yes, and we do already have multiple images in WDS but I'm confused about the point at which partitioning takes place. With a WDSClientUnattend.xml file specified in the WDS server properties, as soon as we have chosen an image to deploy, the drive is wiped and a single partition is created (as specified in the WDSClientUnattend.xml file), and this is fine if we want every machine that we image to have a single partition. But now we want 2 partitions on certain machines/images. So if I deploy image A it wipes the disk and creates a single partition, but if I deploy Image B it wipes the disk and creates 2 partitions. But obviously I can't achieve this with a single WDSClientUnattend.xml file specified at the server level. So I should: 1. Remove the WDSClientUnattend.xml from the server? (or I guess I could modify it to remove partitioning info) 2. Associate imageunattend.xml files on the individual images, with the WindowsPE\x86_Microsoft-Windows-Setup_neutral pass to specify partitioning? (I tried this and it didn't work, I was still prompted to manually create partitions) Thanks

Thanks Synack. I've played around with MDT but couldn't get my head around it. Maybe time to go back and look again. I think I'm right in saying that you use MDT to configure your images, but you'd still deploy these with WDS?

Probably been answered somewhere before, but this is one for the WDS experts out there. We've got WDS deploying images fine and I'm familiar with WDS, WAIK, WSIM etc. and unattend files. We are currently using WDSClientUnattend.xml which is specified in the server properties to specify an administrator user to perform imaging, and to wipe and partition drives with a single partition before imaging. This is working fine, but now I want to specify different partitioning options for different machines. What I want to achieve is to have my staff laptops image onto a single partition that fills the entire harddrive, but for our classroom laptops I'd like to create a partition for the O/S and applications, and a second partition/logical drive to act as a 'scratch' drive. I understand that I can't achieve this through WDSClientUnattend.xml at the server level, and would have to remove this, but can I do it at the image level instead?

I have a need to do some analysis on the usage of our workstations. At this stage, what I'm looking for is the ability to graph the uptime of all of our network clients over a month, to show when they were on and running, and when they were off. I don't need stats as to what they are being used for at this stage. Anyone have any suggestions as to how I might do this? Through AD perhaps? Thanks

Just came across this thread. We have 2 Canon Pro9000Mk2 printers in our art department and in themselves they have performed well over the last 3-4 years. We clean the ink heads in an ammonia solution every year, and use genuine inks as experiments with 3rd party inks were a disaster. The printers probably churn out between 1500 and 2000 pages per month during assessment time. We do have issues though, but they are due to the fact that we are networking the printers with USB print servers. We have tried a number of different servers but haven't been able to achieve a consistently reliable state. These are great printers if you want a solid, standalone unit. If you think you need a network capable unit (even if it's sometime in the future), then steer clear of them.

We let the AP's auto decide what channel to use. We pretty much have an AP per classroom, so I imagine there is some bleed from room to room, and we do get client devices connecting to AP's in the classroom next door, but it never seems to cause any end-user issues

We have been running Unifi at our school for around 9 months. I just couldn't go past the initial price in comparison to the competition, and so far it's been working brilliantly. As far as I'm aware it doesn't have some of the 'smarts' of the alternatives (i.e the AP's aren't aware of each other and don't shift traffic automatically dependent on load), but we haven't had a single technical issue since I installed and commissioned it. We have 38 AP's around the school, and between 3-400 devices accessing the wireless networks (3) at the same time. I have occasionally seen individual AP's with 50+ clients with very little impact on performance at the client end. I haven't done any scientific testing at all though, really just looking that staff and students can login, browse the web, transfer files etc. all with reasonable speed. For under $9000 NZ (That's about 5000 pounds) we have good, stable wireless coverage across our entire campus and so far the staff and students (1000+) have been happy

I've got no throughput issues, and things are working fine, I just noticed that the lights on the Allied Telesis switches were blinking in unison and wondered what, if anything, was going on. No loops that I am aware of. I've got RSTP enabled on all of the switches anyway, and there are definitely no loops between switches. I'll check for network outlets patched to each other etc. We've currently got a flat network, no VLANs. I'm going to put the wireless gear (unifi) onto a VLAN to segregate the wireless traffic, as yes, the iToys do seem to be VERY chatty to say the least. I've got an AT-x900 Layer 3 switch at the core so will route using that. Synack, we are on FX Networks, not SNAP, so don't think it's anything to do with that. Anyone good at analyzing Wireshark logs? Our Allied Telesis switches are blinking in unison and it looks like a 70's disco. I've tested for loops and not found any so far, so I'm suspecting that perhaps we have something causing some sort of broadcast storm. The problem is, I'm really not sure what is considered 'normal' so am not getting far analyzing the recent wireshark log from my workstation. I did the same as you are thinking of, came out to NZ for 6 months in 1999 and loved it, went back to the UK for a year or so, then moved out here permanently, and other than missing my family, have never really looked back. Hi there fellow Edugeekers. Just tossing around an idea at the moment, and thought this would be the place to start. I'm an ex-pat living in Dunedin, New Zealand, and am thinking of coming back to the UK next year for 2 to 6 months, to spend some time with my family in Carlisle. I'm a network manager in a large (by NZ standards) girls school here in Dunedin. What I'm wondering is if there is any way I may be able to work out some sort of job/house swap with a fellow network manager that may want to come out here for a while. I won't go on about how wonderful life is here in New Zealand, but it is pretty fantastic, and having been here for 10 years, I'd never leave, but I'd like to spend some time with my folks, and I thought maybe if we could get our employers to agree to it (don't think I'd have a problem my end) it'd be a good opportunity to kill a few birds with one stone as it were. You'd have to be in the North, ideally in Cumbria or North Yorkshire. I'd be brining my wife and 6 year old daughter. If I can't work it out, I'll probably just take extended leave and try and find some IT contracting work in the UK, but it'd be cool if if did work out. Anyway, any thoughts, any takers? Cheers John

Sorry to drag this up as I know it's been covered before, but most of the posts I can find are fairly old. I'm looking for a messaging system to use on our teacher notebooks, for intra-staff communication. The main purpose is so the attendance officer can remind the teachers to submit their electronic rolls, but a general instant messaging system is also required. We are currently using GoogleTalk, as we have Google Apps, but the GTalk client relies on users 'friending' other users, and as far as I am aware the client is not able to do SSO, so it relies on users actually signing into it in the first place (which they don't do). So I'm looking for a simple chat/IM interface, that is AD integrated and supports SSO so that it automatically runs and signs in on user logon. I've looked at OpenFire/Spark and it looks good, but can't find clear documentation on getting SSO to work on Server 2008 or R2, and it looks fairly complicated. Our domain is Server 2008 R2 and client workstations are Windows 7. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? Cheers
