  1. Hi I appear to have done something and the main menu no longer appears to be working when I try and edit it.....Any ideas?? Regards firefox_2006
  2. Did you say "free..." and "Microsoft..." hmmm..... *nearly spits out tea*
  3. Just seen this myself......can't see how overall it will dramatically improve results for the money being spent. You could have a couple of really nice IT Rooms for this with kit that would last a lot longer than these will, as well as the hacking issue (jailbreaking). The techs there will be busy doing nothing but filing insurance claims and not fixing the other IT kit around the school because "daisys dog decided it was its new toy". I presume this has been carefully thought out......then again! Almost like the scenario 10 years ago when schools jumped on the Interactive Whiteboard wagon "lets get one, we NEED it!" only for most not to see actual use other than a surface to project onto. Is kind of annoying when you here about all the school closures on the news and "academies" are wasting money on gimmick devices.
  4. I will be at the jobcentre seeking employment.....unless someone has any better offers?? *waits for phone to ring*
  5. Thanks for all the supportive and constuctive messages, a lot to think about. Think driving instructor career will go on back burner for a while. Going to keep open mind and try and improve knowledge before definately deciding.
  6. Hello My job is being made redundant in the next two weeks and I am thinking of trying something different. I have been looking at driver instructor training offered by the AA (link) Anyone else thought of doing this? or know of someone who has? I am looking at possibly spending at least 1500K - 2K on Microsoft courses just to get entry level (1st Line Support helpdesk) so I think might as well do something that doesn't require constant feeding the pockets of Bill Gates lol Plus I like driving and the thought of being rooted behind a desk doesn't inspire me anymore.
  7. Hi Just wondering where other people stand on allowing students to use their own devices to record video files for class work. I am finding that I have to spend time converting them as they inevitably won't work in moviemaker unless I do. I was thinking of installing the freeware converting software on the teachers desktop and getting her to do it, or they could just use the flips cameras the school has bought, which record straight into wmv. Its not hard to drop them into the software and press the "convert" button. What do you guys do?
  8. I too am interested in why you think this? Please PM me to.
  9. Jobs down south pay far more than midlands based ones, but then cost of living is greater I suppose, shame cos for me to apply and relocate it brings salary down to 22/23k, which is still better than most schools seem to offer in midlands for IT Tech roles such as this. Looks like I will have to dust off the suitcase.
  10. As some of you may or not be aware, my post is being deleted (redundancy) and from 31st August I will be out of contract and a job. I have been looking furiously at the jobs market, but the thing I have noticed is a lot of posts are requiring certifications for everything (ITIL, Prince 2, MCP's) I have some money saved but I am kind of against the principle of paying out for certifications every couple of years to remain "current" (feeding the pockets of Bill Gates). I will I am looking at other options too, such as retraining and apprenticeships for people over 25 (I am 29). What advice could some of you share? Stick with IT and attempt to do some certs? (and still struggle to obtain a job) Tried phoning nextstep but the advisor was pretty useless. I might try IT agencies such as Harvey Nash/FDM? There seems to be a lack of support for IT bods from so called career places. thanks
  11. Here is something that might make some of you jealous. About a month or so ago I got a friend request on facebook from an old school friend, so I added him. Turns out he is now an airline pilot and is currently flying the Foo Fighters on their tour, talk about jammy g!t lol
  12. Hate it when they don't specify the blooming salary, how much is this likely to be? I'm guessing £18k as Academy...
  13. Put simply it is C.R.A.P (Confusing, Rubbish, Annoying, Program)
  14. Ha Ha, I really do not know.
  15. Just had the following email from a Year 11 pupil: Student: Does Windows 7 work on schools internet? Good to know they learn something in "IT" lessons aye?
  16. I don't think it will be too long until a mandatory re-test is issued to "refresh" driving ability every ten years, this would certainly weedle out all the bad drivers amongst us.
  17. I did my PGCE a few years ago and never really thought of a career in teaching. It was tough for me, learning to cope with the various demands of the role and I never really felt 100% comfortable doing it, hence why I am back on the technical side. For me it was tough trying to make the rather dry content appealing to teenagers (how do you make databases sound "cool" or spreadsheets). I remember trying to teach the DiDA and how difficult that was. I never really saw my friends much at weekends as I was always trying to plan the next lesson. As I say most teachers don't plan lessons these days as its the same stuff regurgitated year after year, hence why students get bored and switch off. I learn't a lot from the experience and it looks good on the old CV. Perhaps arrange a visit to different schools to get more of an idea, definately something that requires more thought than what I put into it lol.
  18. MarioKart on the SNES? Goldeneye?
  19. I will give this a go......might also see if there is an update for the graphics drivers for the workstation.
  20. Hi We are experiencing an issue when staff try to access videos on Youtube. Basically whenever they try and access the homepage for Youtube, the web browser (mostly IE8) will crash. Is anybody else experiencing such issue? If so how did you resolve it? To get round this we are having to get staff to visit google first and search for a video and then click on a link, thus bypassing the homepage, but even this is failing to work on some stations now.
  21. We use ParentCall/Truancy Call for this, although we also have PARS which as mentioned above can send txt SMS messages to parents once configured.
  22. We have the sixth form common room directly above our office and are regulalry subjected to the blast from the stereo system they have up there
  23. Very good, wish our staff would do something like this, would be funny to watch, quite well put together as well.
  24. I did that 2 years ago, bloody hurts and itches like mad for a few weeks. Nope just coming in jeans and hoodie today I'm afraid.
  25. Nice, quite like it, better than my effort lol. Which template are you using?
