  1. Hello, I am having the above issue when pupils come to plug in their USB pen drives, the pc automatically restarts. Anyone know how/why this is happening? Regards firefox_2006
  2. Hi I have about 12 IBM ThinkPad R50e laptops (all of which were handed to students) that have the same problem. When you try and turn them on the fan appears to be active but there is nothing onscreen (just a black screen, as if it were still switched off). We have tried swapping various components (HD, memory, screens, battery you name it!) but with no success. I have one sole remaining IBM laptop that is working that I am using to test the others with (god knows what I will do if/when that goes!). Funny thing is that all the IBM laptops that were handed out to staff are still working, so I am obviously wondering whether the students are doing something to cause this problem, or whether it is a board/controller issue. I have tried plugging a monitor in for dual display but that does not work either. If anyone can spread some light on the situation I would be most grateful. Regards firefox_2006
  3. Hi all, I have an Acer Aspire 3050WXMI laptop which I purchased a couple of months ago. Recently I have been getting this annoying error message appearing when it loads into Windows Media Centre (my OS). Managed to find out what "RTHDCPL" file is (it happens to be for Realtek High Definition Audio). So I removed the Realtek software using Add/Remove programs and re-installed it. However, I still keep getting the blasted error when my laptop boots into windows. Did another search for the HHCTRL file that is mentioned in the error and tried to delete that (it appears to be just an Active X control), but it just keeps coming back, after every time I delete it. The only other thing I can think of is to disable the RTHDCPL file from loading when the machine boots, using regedit and browsing to the Run folder within the registry. Oh, this oddly enough appears to be happening shortly after I installed CCleaner, which I know is a useful application, but it has a knack for deleting/moving files which subsequently screws your machine Any advice in this matter would be appreciated Firefox_2006
  4. Hi all, My name is Nathan, Im an IT Technician at a high school in the midlands. I also qualified as a teacher last year, but have decided to give that a break (pesky kids!). Looking to get some experience before obtaining a more senior post. Seems like a good place to get some advice when PC's fail to respond to your demands. All the best firefox_2006 Ps Mozilla Firefox kicks ass!
  5. No I have a student who brought their laptop to me containing the Word 2003 Document, when you open it you get a load of 'gobledy gook'. Tried opening the file on another machine using Word 2003 and it opens the same, so I am assuming the file is corrupted, is there anyway of recovering it. I have 'googled' for "Word Recovery" and tried a few shareware programs but to no avail, do you know of any tools that might help? firefox_2006
