This. Why would they release bleeding edge specced gear - when having complete hard/software control enables them to ensure it all fits together to a pleasing end user experience. Horses for courses though, you want top spec - you build your own or buy a windows/linux prebuild you want ease of use, a nice UI and little maintenance you go Mac (assuming you can afford it) I find it funny how many people moan about apple fanbois when they're far more rabidly anti-mac then the supposed fanbois are pro mac.

For things that may benefit you a bit more, why not look at nagios or the dude for some network monitoring?

You lose Single Instance Storage with Exchange 2010. Depending on the amount of duplicate data in the databases this may or may not have a big effect. Personally I allowed for A LOT more storage with 2010, but we've also moved to DAGS so have replicated databases, etc. Storage speed is less of an issue with 2010 too, so more, cheaper disk is an option.
