the test information is held in a database on the (APS) server, so uninstalling and re installing DPS on a work station won't affect that, because as soon as you log on at the work station, it picks up the test information again. This should only be the case if you, or someone else has tried the test logged on as a pupil. If you've done it anonymously that information is not held and you'll be able to start afresh (according to RM) beeswax

my head of ICT forwarded an email from RM to me. the following extract may be of help. "3. Network connections The performance of the KS3 ICT test software depends on the speed of your school's network connections and the amount of activity across your LAN. As advised in the Installation and Technical Guide, for optimum performance of the software, it is recommended that you use switched network connections (no hubs) to allow each workstation its maximum available bandwidth. During test sessions, the level of traffic from the DPS workstations to the APS will be high. The number of pupils that can take the test simultaneously depends upon the available bandwidth and level of traffic on your network. If you encounter frequent lost connections between DPS workstations and the APS we would advise you to plan sessions for no more than 60 pupils at a time. Where possible you should try to minimise the number of other applications that will be running on both the server and the workstations used for the test during the test window. For example, reschedule backups and anti virus scans to times when tests are not being taken." hope it helps. beeswax

we had a server failure last week and had to replace the hdd's. server 2K3 was installed from new on the C drive, and all backed up files etc were restored. the problem we have is that every folder which was shared now has read only permissions, even on the C drive, where no backup was restored. despite changing the permissions and applying the changes, as soon as you close the dialogue window, it goes back to read only. staff and pupil home folders, also restored, allow users write permissions. we can't figure it out. any ideas? beeswax

I'm afraid it's not as simple as that. we had the old server configured with 4 ip ranges in conjunction with our cisco switches, and 4 vlans, as well as a host of other stuff. our cisco engineer is away (it's a long story, but one day it will be told)

our dhcp server died over the weekend. the old hdd's have been removed and new ones put in place, but the setup is exactly the same. server 2003 has been installed, and we were now wondering if we could do a system state restore on boot, reload all the info from our backup tapes, and have something that'll need a few tweaks to get going. but it's going to be harder than that isn't it? beeswax
