my experience as someone who was a governor at a primary school was that few males applied for teaching posts, and this was seen as a problem as there were no/very few positive male role models for pupils. However, when it comes to primary school heads the proportion of males to females is much higher. when I think back to my own time at primary school (late '50's early '60's) the only male there was the head. someone somewhere's probably done a paper on it. as the father of 2 daughters I've always been keen to stress that they are at least the equal of any male, except when it comes to housework, neither of them being able to hold a candle to my ironing skills. as a by product you've also solved a desktop problem for me as well. I was trying to use a gif but the icons and text were showing a blocky blue background. changing to bmp solved that. thanks.

I've got to apologize for not going into full details of the Realtek 8139. You must ask your suppliers if they are PXE compliant first, I thought it was a standard thing that they were, but some older stock may not be. sorry about that, it's something I've just caught the NM saying.

slightly off line, and I can't remember if I read it here, but it seems that mice (computer) in internet cafes hold the most bacteria, followed by public toilet door handles. And looking down at my own (pro-biotic) keyboard and mouse I can see why.

I've googled it and seen a couple of ways it's supposed to work, one dhtml and the other javascript, but no matter how I try, I can't replicate it on my page(s).

does anyone have any code, or know of where I can find some, I can insert into a page which will allow an iframe to resize its height to fit its content? I've spent a fruitless couple of hours searching but haven't found anything that does what it says on the tin yet. beeswax

well it seems to be working, but very slowly, or there's an awful lot of stuff to put back. Or, as the teacher says, "Oh, it's just a couple of files and my printer at home."

I've been using this for quite a while now with teachers laptops, where you install a basic image and return the files and settings. This time, however, despite pointing it to the file (on an external hdd) it says the file doesn't exist. I did this on a laptop last week without any problems. Has anyone encountered this before and have you found a work round? beeswax

yesterday, for the third time, my head of ICT came in 5 minutes before a lesson and asked me to schedule a test for that lesson. Apart from the rush the (pfm) test seems to be running ok, though had a couple who couldn't create the chart, despite running the update/patch. doing it with a class of 26 though, as we suspect that with our servers coming towards the time when they should be replaced, it's the best bet.

I've been proceeding down the Moodle path quite happily for a few weeks now, and have even managed to get some teachers interested, but why am I doing it? Will vle's be compulsory, are we at that stage now, or is it something that's just strongly recommended? Can anyone enlighten me?
