That's right - anything over 300MHz won't work. I had the issue with a K6-2 500, fixed in the short term by jumpering the CPU down to 300MHz, and in the long term by AMD sending me a free full version of Windows 98!!

If the screen is illuminated, but just a part of it is not displaying, it will not be the inverter, but the panel itself. If the inverter has failed, the backlight won't work at all. Try looking for a replacement at Laptop Screens | Notebook Screens | Netbook Screens | LCD | LED | WXGA | WUXGA | WSXGA | HD | FULL HD - should be around £80 or so and is a piece of cake to fit for a competent technician. I've got several screens from them recently and saved us a lot of money on labour costs. Hope this helps

It certainly looks like it needs checking out - I've driven Renaults for years and always understood the ( ! ) light to indicate a braking system problem. The Graph/Coil light in a petrol Renault is like a 'general fault' indicator.

It's all down to the insurer - presumably the less than £1k for his own insurance is with a company that is less worried about insuring young male drivers. I'd guess your own insurance company is one that is highly against insuring young males.

Anyone got experience of the Nokia X6? Seen it advertised at reasonable rates from O2, and my iPhone 3G is getting a bit old and slow now. Looking for a different replacement because I can't afford a 3GS and want something with a better camera. Anyone know how the X6 compares to the iPhone?

If you download and install the latest HD Audio drivers from Realtek that will get the internal speakers going. However, the headphones jack on the back of the iMac wont work - I have this problem at home and can't find a solution. The realtek software will detect the headphone jack as a line in port, and the line in port isn't recognised at all. If you find a solution, it'd be great if you could share!

@FN-GM: Nope, don't work in Windows either. No recent updates (Macs not even online so can't have downloaded anything). Old Macs running OS X 10.3, new ones OS X 10.4. @duncane: Have been doing exactly the same thing with the cameras that has been done all along which has always worked before. Thinking your theory might be possible about something having been done to all of the cameras - possibly one mac with a broken firewire which is messing up all the cameras?

We have 5 or 6 Canon camcorders in our Media Studies Department (a mix of MD205 and MV890) which are used to record footage, which is then transferred via FireWire to six Apple Macs (4 G3 iMacs and 2 Intel Core 2 iMacs). These have been working perfectly, until recently. Suddenly, none of the cameras will connect with any of the computers. iMovie simply displays a 'No Camera Connected' error. The cameras also do not work on a Windows PC with a known good FireWire port and cable. It seems infeasibly that 5 cameras of different ages could suddenly fail with the same problem, but I am now stuck with the troubleshooting. I'm hoping that someone may be able to offer some assistance with steps to try, either on Windows or Mac OS X or both. Thanks.

The Virgin Media adverts which have appeared on the site this morning seem to be very intrusive and annoying - every time the mouse goes near the banner a 1/4 screen video pops up and obscures posts, and in some instances, an ad block is appearing over the posts themselves before being expanded so it's impossible to read some posts. I'm on Firefox and having the issue, and so is my colleague. Well, the setup is certainly a recipe for things to be very slow. 60 laptops is far too many to connect wirelessly to a single access point - you would need a lot more than one of even Enterprise class APs to support that number of laptops, never mind trying to do it with a consumer/SME type router that it appears you are trying to use. The wired infrastructure shouldn't be too much of a problem, but you will need to look at providing more wireless access points for the laptops to connect to.

I said "people who never contribute anything useful" - which may or may not include you, I don't follow your entire posting history - should be removed. It just seems there are some people who only ever post things to argue or be contentious and this is unsettling the whole community at the moment.

If only that were true of everyone! It seems there are some here who only post at all when it is an opportunity to flame, troll or generally stir up trouble. Maybe its time to remove people who never contribute anything useful?

My fiancee has got a Tocco Ultra, and it has some very annoying foibles. There is no way to remove words from the custom dictionary, typing anything with apostrophes is all but impossible, changing the days to ring on one alarm changes all the others, randomly turns vibration on and off for no apparent reason, touchscreen is not very responsive. Just odd, annoying things really. When she first got it, I fancied getting one, but now I've seen her using it, and the frustrations it causes, I'd never consider one! At risk of a custard pie, iPhone all the way for me!

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone would be willing to suggest what they would consider to be a fair price to charge a teacher to replace the screen in a personally-owned laptop. The replacement screen itself is £65 and I was thinking of charging a total of £100. What do you guys think? Cheers
