Visited. Read. Now need a coffee.

Possibly. I'd have to try it, youd need to use a \1 style reference - I doubt it TBH.

Happy birfdy!

We're planning a low-impact replacement called GFI VIPRE. It is taking slightly longer than expected due to the takeover of Sunbelt by GFI though.

How far do you travel to work, how long does it take?
tom_newton replied to jonny_2010's topic in Educational IT Jobs
~10 mins walk. More like 12 on the way back due to hillage. Some competition between myself and rob_f as to who is closest to the office (he's closer crow-flies, my walk is quicker) -
Smoothwall - Active Directory Authentication
tom_newton replied to robknowles's topic in Wireless Networks
I think the dns name of your AD server should resolve to exactly one server - but I may be wrong on that one. See if any of the support team can enlighten us -
...and now with added Smoothwall sysadmin goodness, for anyone who goes

If you're running SmoothWall, I believe there's now a "youtube" category, as there's always one you miss when wanting to whitelist it. It might not have been released yet, I cant remember If not - see if you can catch nile_c on here, he's our chief blocklist chappie, and I am sure he'd be happy to help out.

I have read a book which had a "family tree" illustration in it - close? Thinking of d/ling a travel guide for Kenya, but there's only one and it's KE/TZ, and £8

OK, had mine 5 days.. initial report: * screen is truly amazing * ergonomics "nice" * battery life seems fantastic On the other hand: * could be more flexible - there's very few settings you can change * browsing amazon for books is a painful experience, you always get left with a "bucket" of 1000s of books, of which it is possible to see a few uninteresting ends. Especially bad if you share your amazon account with a wife who likes different books to you, as it sends the reccomendations haywire * ebooks are still too pricey * should come with a slip-case

Heh. Glad you've done that. Presuming you are on exchange, your other "most obvious" candidates are those that live on-server... another appliance for mail filtering would seem excessive.

Smoothwall Spam Filter
tom_newton replied to Stuart_C's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
You're generally about right - though: * you can tune the sensitivity * there is a way to stop the balnk emails - but its a minor code hack under the hood - drop me a line monday and i'll have one of the guys install it for you Interesting use case there of unquarantining email from external. Hmm Hmm Hmm. I suppose you could port forward to the smoothie and make the email point to a DNS name... but i'll have a think about other solutions. -
I believe you're a smoothie user - ask your sales person to turn on spam filtering for 30 days?

@RabbieBurns - turns out my buddy is at home awaiting delivery of a sofa... but an alternative T17er provides the following insight:
-
@RabbieBurns - I've lodged the timer question with my mate @ T17 - when he gets back to me i'll ask about older versions. I bet he's have responded quicker if i'd titled the email "Leeds united banter" rather than "worms".

Smoothwall Spam Filter
tom_newton replied to Stuart_C's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Yes it's bloody brilliant* Anti-Spam is one of the few things we don't do ourselves (we'd not be very good at it, we prefer playing with web filters) - the actual anti-spam engine is licenced tech from a company called MailShell - they are actually one of the better examples of the breed, and supply some "big name" products. *this statement may contain traces of bias -
Well I ordered mine 3 weeks ago (9th Aug) and I got a shipping date similar to yours sted... 7th I think? Still no update form amazon... **impatient**
-
Steve - when did you order? I should get mine soooooooooooon! Thought of re-formatting pdfs before use? Reckon i could use ghostscript to sort things out automagically.
-
Your man sounds better than mine ;-P
-
I know a man who may be able to help.. if you get no decent replies, give me a shout and i'll introduce you.
-
Hopefully it's good - a mate of mine is lead design on worms - built in Yorkshire! He's concerned that some of the cool new ideas won't work, but generally i think team17 are happy to go more 2d, feels like 3d may have been at the behest of the publishers...

Short answer would seem to be "yes you can" - certainly would be true with a Smoothie firewall, cant see why not with yours.
