Smoothwall Cloud Filter Blocking SIMS Prints

No worries - the more we hear about things the better, as it helps us respond more quickly. In this case, I had an email from a couple of our customers - thanks guys, you know who you are - and marketing had a few contact forms, and we had some tickets, and it did not take too long to triangulate the issue. Luckily we're all early birds here at Qoria because of the AU contingent, so we were able to do all this before 9am. -

Youtube doesn't like ad blockers
tom_newton replied to bknaggs's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We have repeatedly asked our contacts in google to look at "youtube premium for schools" - I think most schools would be happy (ok, content) to pay for an ad free youtube experience. Safeguarding aside, nobody wants the kids distracted by some stupid unskippable ad before the video, or an ad interrupting the key bit of the video. I think all folk are asking for is options, not to get something for nothing. -
Filtering Obligations for Guest Wifi?
tom_newton replied to Miscbrah's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Very true. The internet is closing to the "little guys". We are fighting this on many fronts. Yes, Squid does support http 1.1, and it is still in use in our stack as well as securly's. -

Bear in mind "no-MiTM" means "susceptible to ECH" -
Filtering Obligations for Guest Wifi?
tom_newton replied to Miscbrah's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Guest wifi is a challenge - both from authentication (guest wifi with a single password will leak like a hedgehog's raincoat), and from filtering - without MiTM (you arent going to get certs on guest devices) you will be stymied by ECH either now, or very soon. A simple DNS filter might work, but there's every chance your guest device is using DoH. I would suggest that you whould avoid guest wifi where possible, and if it has to exist, then be very clear to safeguarding folks about what you can and can't expect from your filter. - - - Updated - - - Guest wifi is a challenge - both from authentication (guest wifi with a single password will leak like a hedgehog's raincoat), and from filtering - without MiTM (you arent going to get certs on guest devices) you will be stymied by ECH either now, or very soon. On cloud? Should show up straight away...

Cloudflare blocks me from answering on here! I will email.

On-prem does have some rudimentary logs for some actions - and I believe policy delete/create is one of them.. I think you have to fish around in the backend a bit. I will take a look, this is something nobody has poked around with since we moved cloudwards.

Sorry - got caught up in the xmas break. Drop me an email - [email protected] and lets talk it through, and we can post our conclusions here?

tom_newton replied to Sheridan's topic in How do you do....it?
Sorry for late reply - I have been travelling the country talking about online safety. Again. (as we all know, transpennine express is rubbish... just incase anyone had forgotten) If you need help getting off the ground with our on-device filter, give your CSM a shout (if you don't know who that is, drop me an email - [email protected]) -
