Who cares what large corporations would do - they are in a totally different situation. There is no such thing as the "Schools Agreement" for them - so upgrading to Vista would have enormous cost implications.

Even though I am in London our Ramesys contacts are in Birmingham. We spent almost a full day trying to call them last week. In the end we tried the Nottingham office and were told "Yeah, we've been trying to reach them all day too - we think that they must not be answering the phones today" 8O Nice.

Ramesys have pi**ed me off 100% in the last year. I know of someone who ordered Symanec AV 10 from them and it took... *drum role*... 6 MONTHS from order to receiving the key. So much about them recently has made me feel that they are going under.

It's really frustrating how long this is all taking I've had the DVD for a fortnight now but cannot send it out to a room as a trial. :x Ramesys have certainly dragged their heels every step of the way, but none of the regular Microsoft licensing people seem to have any training in Windows Vista licensing and treat you like some random drunk that's called them up and is talking gibberish - that's MS licensing in Britain, Holland and America.

Whoa Toby, you're brave openly acknowledging that you are a Capita employee. Expect 20,000 PMs on how to fix a multitude of problems (problems with SIMS? - never )
-
Yes, all the share information is in the registry - so if the drive letter is the same and the folders exist - then all the shares 'magically' reappear.
-
PS for vista I had to pay attention to where it extracted the exe (You can't manually unRAR it for some reason). I then copied the files out of the temp folder and ran the msi manually - installed fine that way.

Wow, your experience is 100% opposite to mine John. I got the direct download without the Google toolbar from here - it is 20Mb though ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/8.x/8.0/enu/AdbeRdr80_en_US.exe Nice new look. Once you've accepted the EULA, all future PDFs open almost instantly - which is a huge improvement on version 8. I use Foxit too, and I would imagine that Foxit's success must have concentrated the minds at Adobe. Adobe Reader 8 is a good product shock.

Kyle, why do you think that you need a delay? If all 400 have the same delay won't that leave the system in the same state that it was before?
-
Josh if you still have problems tomorrow then post back. I mentioned the above off the top of my head, but I can give you step-by-step instructions from my server then if you need.

You have to delegate control to the the appropriate OU for the Symantec ghost account as far as I can remember. You can alter the default OU too so that it doesn't go in the "Computers" container, but instead into your "New PCs" OU instead.
-
Yes, but you've probably deployed konqueror there

Just got IE7 downloaded this morning on WSUS. It starts installing in English, but an error comes up in Spanish about not being a compatible version. A quick Goolge shows that lots of others have had the problem too, but only today. Someone at MS must have put the wrong exe in the wrong folder

Has anyone here been able to activate yet? We keep getting the "DNS name does not exist" error - along with many other people online.
-
Cheers Stewart, our installation was keyless though - was yours not?
-
Never heard of it either. As I try to sign up it asks for a referrer, do you want to be used that the referrer, if so, what name should we use?
-
Who did you get the key from Stewart? Ramesys or MS or someone else?
-
I didn't bother - just went for it myself, safe in the knowledge that I'll never have to speak to Ramesys again

Us too. Luckily they recently sent us some disk and in the paperwork was our agreement number. I went to https://licensing.microsoft.com and tried the number - it worked. There was no "administrator" for our site so I added myself and was able to download whatever I wanted. It may work for you too.

hmmm, didn't think that you could get Vista Business N without a license. Nice to see Microsoft going down the Linux route.
-
I see that two people voted "Business N" - why would you chose the option without WMP? Good product and free. Don't see the point of excluding it. Please enlighten me

In case anyone else wonders about this, you have to wipe the machine first using diskpart or format. Obviously they are easy to do, but surely a simple "/clean" switch or similar is an oversight by Microsoft.

Nero works fine for me, can't comment about the other two items. Booting to desktop is generally 45 seconds quicker on my test machine.
-
I've made a script to change that value to 4, but the buggers are still able to use the drives. How is that possible? (BTW, I have to checked the registry to make sure that the settings did get applied properly)
-
Never heard of Scribus - you'd recommend it I presume.
