The fibre switch is a 3com 4900sx switch and this connects the four other cabinets up to the main cabinet. After doing a walk around the cabinets their I seen that in each of the four cabinets the main switch in each cabinet is linked with a fibre connection which is an add-on module for the 4400 switch. Any connecting switch is linked by a separate cascade module which i am not sure what speed this would give. If i was to add the HP 2450 switch with the server connected at 1000mb and connect this switch to one of the 3com switches with a cat 5e cable would the rest of the network even notice a difference or would it just be the computers connected to the hp 2450 switch that would really have a difference? I am just thinking that on the HP 2450 there is an expansion for mini-GBIC module so if i connected the 2450 switch to the Main 3com 4900sx switch through the GBIC module then should all computers not notice a difference or better still I shouldn’t have as big a bottle neck? Anyone able to just clarify this with me (settle my mind) Thank you in advance.

Hi Everyone Just wanting to ask on here try and clear it in my own head at the moment. We have a number of network cabnets which are all linked together through fibre links the switches which we use at the moment are 3com 4400. The Main server is linked to the 3com switch by cat 5e but as far as i can tell its only getting 100mb connection were as i have just bought hp procurve 2450 switches and i can connect the server to this and get 1000mb connection. What i was wanting to know was if i was to connect the server to the procurve switch using port 26 connecting the server at 1000mb and then link to a 3com switch using port 25 the connection between the two switches only seems to be getting 100mb will this still cause a bottle neck because of this connection? I should see an improvement in speed for connections hopefully for all computers connected to the procurve switch but will there be no difference for the other computers because they are only getting a 100mb connection? hope i have made some sense in what i am asking i really am hoping for an improvement on all computers connected but in order for me to really see the improvement would i need to replace all the switches to really see any difference?

Hi guys I have been asked to do the same here, we are running server 2008 with windows xp clients and a teacher has asked if it would be possible to reset pupil passwords. I don’t want to give out access to the server but want to make it easy for a staff member to just search for the username and reset password to a default then when the pupil logs in they must change this. If I install the adminpak is this possible to allow staff an easy way of changing the password? or as mrmontymick has said is there a script that I can use to place on teachers desktops that when they click it just lets them search and click reset password that seems fool proof

i was going to use the classroombookings i had looked at setting it up as a test but because we run our internet from a managed system on the legacy network it would allow connections incoming to the machine from within or outsite the school. So i am getting it hosted on our website but again this is at a cost which is why i need all the good points so that i can get the go ahead to spend the money to get an online system, I have always thought that the online is the way we need to go just need to give as many points across as possible

Hi everyone I have been asked to give some reasons/benefits for us moving forward to an online booking system and was wondering if people could give me some views. I know the usual ones more that booking is accessible from anywhere that has an internet connection, saves on paper, Faster to find information on rooms stops double bookings? Just wondering if there are many other reasons so that could put forward for using an online system.

hi guys thank you for getting back to me. I checked everything in Print manager plus and it was fine but Bugfixer thank you it was due to mopier mode on the priinter that was stopping the amount of copies thank you both for your replies.

Hi everyone I have a small problem here at the moment I have a teacher whos account is exactly the same as other teachers but yet for some reason he cannot print any more than 1 copy of a document? although another teacher can print off maybe 5 or 6 copies of a document is there something that i am missing for this I have checked printer drivers and they are both the same i even changed his up from PCL 5 to PCL 6 but it still hasnt changed how many he can print. the printer is an HP 4000 printer and we are running print credit system although this is not set to limit multiple prints

Got it sorted sorry needed to update software and administration software then restart the service and it seems to be working fine now thank you for all your help

Thank you seemed to be a problem with me just clicking on the location instead of typeing the location in but it works a treat now install on an ict suite. Although the problem i am having now is that some users are coming up as unknown user with printed pages not tracked and account balance unlimited. Although i have checked to make sure that there account details are in the print manager plus administration and they are. any ideas why this may happen it seems only to be happeing to some people not everyone. I did need to go into the print manage plus administration and select location of users again and it seemed to pull in the missing users but still doesnt bring up account details for them on the client side.

Hi Yes i have allocated the software and restarted the machines then i have logged on but cant see the software installed, it works fine if i manually install the program but was hoping to push it out through GPO

I have just bought the new version of the software and seems to work great although when i try to push the client out to all the workstations it pops up very quickly but doesnt seem to install i have set Client8.0.133.90_En_EUIT under GPO to install as an .msi and the package is only around 520kb but cant understand why its not installing on the workstations can anyone help with this please

has anyone got any ideas on how i could fix this little issue?

Thank you for all your help really is appreaciated i think what may be best is as you said this is a really old version of print manager plus so i am going to order the newest version so that i can get the icon that students can just either hover over or click on to view credits this would be better than sending a net send message

I have the ports open on the server firewall and the client but now the client print manager is not showing any details were as before it was contacting server?

but will this work with print manager plus version 4?

I dont have the client software just the server software

can anyone help with this issue i want to be able to create a drive that when the user clicks on my computer they can see there username which is actually there my documents this is so i can put restrictions on that drive to stop .exes being played. At the moment when a student logs in to get to their my documents they just double click on my documents and this is mapped using GPO to \\server\Studnets\Year\%username%\My Documents. I want to be able that when a student logs in they can also see there my documents on a Drive letter which i can then put restrictions on is this possible with the current setup that i am already running?

so when the user goes to my computer they can also get access to there my documents by click on the share as well as clicking on my documents under the start button?

thats what i wanted to ask because at the moment i have it just that the students can click on my documents and it is redirected to \\server-1\students\year\%username%\my documents but can i have this map to a network say N:\ and then do the same as what i have done for memory sticks?

we are using a very old version and i rang about this and got a quote for the new software which i think we are going to purchase because at the moment the software is installed and working on the server although no pupil can find out what they have left. I did set it to send a message when credits were low but this doesnt seem to work as i havent seen a message at any time.

Hi everyone just looking to see how i could stop this. I used another post on edugeek and it was great for stopping .exe files as well as others but i have found that they can run from there my documents. I would like to be able to stop this from happening as well and was wondering what others do.
