it looks like the server stops when trying to run backups on the usb backup drive, we change between two drives and its working great on one but doesnt back up on the other i am reformatting the drive at the moment to see if i can access it again through windows backup service but going to get myself another server and try and load balance instead of being totally reliant on the one. Thanks guys for all your help i will you know how i get on once this backup drive has reformatted.

thanks guys for all your suggestions, I do have a usb key fob in the server for licenses to solidworks but other than that theres nothing else plugged in. I have checked the DNS records but everything seems to be fine.

well today the server has frozzen on me while i was actually logged on doing updates to GPO and i have tried using the other server to view the services which works great by the way but i cant seem to be able to see the task manager to see if something is eatting up memory. I logged off the server and when trying to log back on again i get "please wait for the System Event Notification Service" and it doesnt seem to go any further when i try to restart services i get a message saying the RPC service is unavailable so i check to see if it is started and it is but i cant restart or stop this service. I also cant seem to check the event view of the server remotely because of the same message RPC service is unavailable. at the moment the only fix i can do is shutdown the server and reboot.
-
nothing in the event log to show any reason why the server has frozzen right up to the point when ive had to switch it off logs were fine. its not happening on a specific day or anything it could be say over the weekend or on a wednesday night or anything night i come in the next day and things are at a go slow and try to log into the server and its frozzen

no no sorry the server freezes up and the first thing that gives me a clue before trying to login is that printers have stopped working then when i go to log into the server i can see its frozen with printing there is no issues just gives me a heads up when all printers seem to stop printing i have an idea that its the server needs to be restarted.
-
Thanks James no i havent tried that before ill give that a go as well next time it seems to freeze. Hi Admiral yes i can send any job from the server when im logged in and they all seem to print

thanks everyone for the replies my server is partitioned but the C drive has over 13gb free space while the main storage for pupils has over 150gb free and staff have over 180gb free. The server is a fujitsu server i am hoping to move roles when it comes to the summer i have just bought the lisences for 2008 R2 i cant see any printer error messages and all printers do seem to work again as soon as the server is restarted, when it does freeze i cant log into the server to see if any process has failed and the event viewer doesnt show any problems before i shutdown. thanks for the replies though i am hoping to move to 2008 R2 over the summer and move some machines over to windows 7

Hoping that someone could shed some light on this issue for me. We have a server running server 2008 32bit with 4gb of ram, quad core 2.67GHz processor and plenty of hard drive space on a raid array. What is happening is randomly printers stop printing around the school and when i try to log in either remote or at the server it just sits at loading user profile settings and goes no further it could be left for 20-30 mins just does do anything and it takes a reboot to fix the issue. Once the reboot has been done the printers start printing again and everything is fine but I don’t like having to shut the server down just incase something happens to the raid array. This server does do everything DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, File Services, Print Services, Backup. anti virus and Windows Deployment Services. We do have another server which is used to shadow the DC01 Active Directory. Can anyone suggest a reason for the server to keep freezing after checking event viewer there is nothing here to suggest why it would stop responding? Any help would be much appreciated

sorry i had logged into each console one at a time but left them in cascade but got everything sorted now didnt think about it when they are cascade they act as one switch only using a single IP in DHCP but in the 3com management console both switches are available under the single IP. Everything is all sorted now they are all secure, passwords set and IP's reserved and can now be viewed from my pc, next will be moving onto VLAN's thanks for all the help
-
i have some of the switches are connected by a cascade module which links the two switches together, I have changed the names of the switches and set them up seperatley although for some reason the joining switch gets its reservation no problem but the main switch doesnt the reservation for it stays inactive
-
Thank you yes that has worked a treat so far i have been using putty to login to the older switches and once ive done this and set the IP to auto and then set a reserve for the mac address on DHCP its worked no problem.
-
Thank you for your reply i will try this tomorrow see how i get on was using the console settings today to do software updates on the switches. I will give this a try tomorrow and ill post how i get on

Hi everyone hopin someone could shed some light on this, we have a load of switches around different cabnets in the school and i have only started replacing these this year bought some HP Procurve 2510 switches which are great. The old ones we have are 3com 4400 and one 4900 SX switch which is the fibre link for all other cabnets. The issue i am having is i can telnet into the new switches with no problems but can access the older switches i also checked DHCP and cant see them with an IP address for some reason although everything is working great. I can see the new HP ip address but not the 3coms. Does anyone know how i could go about getting logged into these i have tried using 3coms network manager but for some reason its not starting when i install it on the computer. I will be changing all the switches hopfully next year just i want to make sure i have addresses set aside for everything and that i can log into them to make sure everything is working alright. any help would be great

has anyone seen that for some reason students cant use the SAVE AS fuction to save into the folder they have access to that they can only drag and drop the file into the folder. Got a phone call this morning to say pupils cant save into the shared folder but they can if they drag and drop the file in, so i got a couple to test this and they get an error message about contact administrator when they try the SAVE AS funtion in word. Anyone come accross this before
-
yea everything working here
-
Think its sorted now it seems to be a fault with office 2007 and once i had installed updates the issue seems to be fixed.
-
Hi Everyone running into a small problem this term with shares, last year shares were set up for each pupil to allow them to save to a folder on a shared area. This worked fine all year and now for some reason this year the pupils get Access is denied. Contact your Administrator. I have checked all the permissions for the folders and they are correct i have removed the permissions and readded them but they still get the same message. We are using server 2008 and XP service pack 3 clients with office 2007 has anyone run into this issue before that just all of a sudden the pupils would get this message? Thanks guys

no worries thank you for letting me know i agree i dont mind entering everything again version 1 so far is working great for us
-
Hi Webman In the new version (v2) will this just update version 1 without deleting all the work thats been created or will it be a completly new install and have to setup rooms and timetable again?
-
All settings are exactly the same as other printers on the network which are printing just fine it just seems to be this one printer which is why its pushing me towards a transfer belt issue
-
Hi Guys Just wanting to see if anyone else has had this problem with the printer. I am about to add a c2000 printer onto the network but when printing test pages the ink is extremly faint, i have replaced all the cartridges and the photoconductor, oil roll and fuser is fine but this still prints very very faint. I was hoping not to replace the transfer belt but could this be the problem with faint printing even the status sheets read that the cartridges are full but when printing colour its faint and some bits missing. Does this sound like a transfer belt issue
