Hecate thank you for your reply it may just be that we are using a far older version which is possibly why it doesnt work we will need to update our software to the more recent version of print manager possibly in order to get this feature

Just a question for anyone using printer credits how to inform pupils how many are left? We are running server 2008 and windows xp clients and we use print manager plus software although i dont know how to let pupils know what credits they have left i just keep getting them come to me asking how many have i left. Is there no way of them getting a pop-up or even something they can click on screen in order to see what credits are left. Thank you in advance

i am running windows server 2008 in the school at the min but looking to move onto windows 7 and i see that windows server 2008 r2 is alot better as the GPO's are for windows 7

im using zeroconf ive never really liked any of the tools that come preinstalled with laptops prefer just to stick with the standard windows wireless utility

I have it set in GPO from MJR's GPO to wait for 30secs to allow the wireless to become active this seems to have fixed the issue as the laptop picked up the software when i restarted it, these laptops now have to wait for a bit when starting up but thats not really a massive issue as they work fine. Thanks guys for all your help with this.

I have also just changed the policies to allow for slow connections thank you very much for this suggestion MJR as well

on the laptops when i open mmc and add in the local group policy under administrative templates and then windows components there are only 3 folders search, windows updates and windows media player.

Hi everyone Just a quick question hopeing that maybe someone else has run into this. I have just added some laptops onto our network and so far they seem to be running fine allowing students to log in and print from them. What i have seen is that they dont seem to pull down the Group Policy that i have set to install apps like shockwave and flash during start-up. They do just fine if they are plugged into the network but overwireless it is touch and go 1 out of the 4 had no problem then if i left them switched on for about 10mins and restarted another would then pick up the Group policy. I have check and they are getting their IP address right and they are seeing the DNS server and everything is fine. I have it set in GP to wait until the network is ready and i have also tried logging on and doing gpupdate /force but this still doesnt seem to pull the apps down when the laptop is restarted. Has anyone else had this problem i know that it would be best to have them hardwired in but there are no more network points available which is why i am using wireless. All the laptops allow logging into the domain just fine but does the wireless only start when its sitting at the logon screen and not before hand? Any help would be much appreactiated. Aaron

sorry just finished reading the post there and seen that you have tried adding them to PRINT OPERATORS and it didnt work.

have you added the staff as a PRINT OPERATOR? I had to do that here to allow staff to delete prints

I didnt think there was an issue with the Domain name as this was the name originally set up with the old severs years ago i have just taken the settings from them (these go back YEARS) and added them to ours settings like Domain name and DNS server addresses? i didnt think there was an issue using this as this is how it was set up for us originally?

All the workstations at the moment from what i can see are getting their DNS settings from the main DNS server which is fine i logged onto a group of workstations and run the ipconfig /all to make sure they were getting the DNS off the main server and also DHCP off the server and everything has come back correct

i dont understand guys explain it to me again have i this all wrong? our logon times are very quick down to around less than 10seconds with local profiles and the only issue would be startup times. But have i done something wrong in setting the DNS up the way i have it?

Hi everyone Just want to check something which is on our server but to be honest i am not fully sure if it should even be there. On my DNS server under forward lookup zone i have two zones one is my Domain and the other is _msdcs.domain.com i am not even sure were this came from the _msdcs one? Can anyone tell me should it even be there or should it not just be my Domain under the forward lookup zone. I have attached a print screen which what i have hopefully someone can tell me if i even need this. Thank you

Hi everyone still having a problem with this, I found a fault with the main server its DNS was looking at the wrong address were as the backup server had the right DNS address so i changed this last night but for some reason this morning on the main server i can still only see random computers and then on the workstations if i click on the Domain sometimes i get an error saying this Domain is not accessable or i might not have permission to use this network resource. Other times if the computer is left on it will allow access to the Domain but will only show random computers. If i use the main server i can access the computers shares but if i go to a workstation and try to access one of the computers that is showing in network places it comes back that i cant get access to this resource. Anyone run into anything like this? everything seems to be working fine and has been for a while i have only run into this problem when it came to sharing a printer which is locally attached to a workstation and not connected to the network.

it looks like if i turn the windows firewall off i can then click on My Network places and Entire network and i have access to the Domain. Although there must be a setting in GPO that allows me to set this on every computer so that any computer i go to i have access to the domain under my username

Has anyone come accross this issue is it something that i may have/not set in windows firewall through GPO. I am logged onto a workstation and trying to access My Network places, Entire Network and then my Domain but when i click to access i get an error message say "Is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this network resource. The network path was not found" I run into this when trying to share a locally installed printer out to a group of machines although it may see the printer I cannot add the printer to other computers. Anyone run into this before?

Hi Everyone Hoping I can get some light shed on this, We are running office 2007 professional plus and over the last period of time Pupils have been creating powerpoint with macro's enabled everything was working fine until a certain point. Now we are seeing that pupils work is randomly changing, one pupil has all the work created all images showing on the powerpoint but when macro's are enabled it randomley removes an image from a silde. This is the same for music it will remove the music from the presentation or at least the link to the file. Has anyone run into this problem with Office 2007 that even coding of the document would be removed as well? Anyone had any problems with office 2007

i run local profiles and havent run into the problem with 2 of everything yet. Although i have noticed that the user space for each folder is really big ill not be rolling it out probably till the summer that gives me enough time to play around with profiles here. It has to work along side windows xp with no problems
