Hi All, Wondering if anyone else has come across this issue. Seems to be that any student on a MAC device cannot download or zip any files on their google drive. They can download the files on other devices (windows, chromeOS) but seems to be blocking them when they're on a MAC. We have tried updating permissions to the folders and also installing a new chrome version on the MAC aswell as clearing cache and cookies. Started with newer MAC's but has now spread to all ages. Has anyone else had this issue? Any help would be amazing. Kind Regards -verysmartbenn

This really has made me chuckle we have all ours on discs still, just waiting for multiple staff needing the same film at once, or walking past a class watching a christmas film on YouTube at 360p and blurry -

I think everyone loves that day before the christmas holidays! I think it's the only time all staff but site team don't work! What a great day, I truly cannot wait. -
Is Christmas the best time of year to be working in IT?
verysmartbenn posted a topic in General Chat
Hello all, A genuine question for you all, is it everyone elses favourite time of the year being at IT technician too when it's christmas time? I think listening to christmas songs in the office, and making your office a tad christmassy, steph from HR giving you home made brownies or buns because you turned her computer off and on, or the way that you can wear an IT christmas jumper that the odd IT teacher may understand. All jokes aside, and i'm a very festive person, but I think working in IT especially at christmas time is the best of the best, and because it's getting close to christmas, all the staff won't report much! I hope it snows this year though, love standing at the office window watching it fall waiting for my outlook to ping a notification of an early finish! What's your thoughts? Kind Regards verysmartbenn -
That's the one we've decided to start using with our students, and it seems to be working very well so far, seems like the best replacement.

[ipad] Clearing photos & videos from iPads
verysmartbenn replied to Koldov's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
If you have an iPad which is logged into a apple id, then you need the details for the apple id before the iPad even allows you to connect it properly. If not, and they're just setup using Meraki, Jamf etc, then you can just plug and play using the iPad passcode. -
Always On Vpn with Smoothwall
verysmartbenn replied to Andycat's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I know a permenant fix, get rid of smoothwall. It's horrible and will cause you nothing but issues. iBoss or anything BUT smoothwall. I remember we had it for a couple of months and just had to chuck it, causes so many issues more than good. -
I used to use PremierPro, that was the most affordable and best option. But you can also use DaVanci Resolve, but it takes some time to get your head round it.

I-boss client upgrade
verysmartbenn replied to akidosaint's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We used iBoss at my old job, and a lot of the times we didn't have to worry about uninstalling and then re-installing. But you can use control panel and then un-install the iBoss client that way. We used to have some issues where iBoss would stop working for no reason, so we used to have to re-install it with the ideal filtering for the PC. Through GPO, you can just push out the new one and you shouldn't have many issues. We never did when we used to push the latest version out.- 1 reply

[ipad] Clearing photos & videos from iPads
verysmartbenn replied to Koldov's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Install 'iTunes' app on a pc, connect the computer, and in there you can remove mass amounts of photos etc off the device. I had to do it before and that was the easiest option. It then saves you doing it through meraki or resetting the iPad. Hope this helps. -
This is going to sound really daft, but I had this issue (funnily enough with an SLT member) but they had over 10,000 emails in their inbox. So they were recieiving new emails, but they wouldn.t show due to their emails being maxed out completely. Even when we added rules and split down the inbox, the issue still stayed. So i would recommend asking the SLT member of staff to spend some time going through and removing a lot of emails, and cleaning it up. Hope this helps!

This is actually us - - - Updated - - - That is great

I WANT TO SEE THEM I NEED MORE, MORE I SAY. Just not more tickets, if people can wait another few weeks to send one that would be great.

You've brought something very good to the table here. And thank you for your response. From our perspective, we are rolling out laptops, and discord will come with the image. Discord is something which will always be opened and allows staff quick access to getting support. The tickets are opened and then put into a catagory, but just like a normal helpdesk to navigate through. We have around 200 staff, so making discord accounts for all may be a tad on the harsh side, but it's something we can always go through. [From a different, managlement, perspective, how are you going to report on your tickets? Can you get an overview on all tickets or do you have to go into each channel to see what tickets are there? Can you run a report on how many tickets were generated last term, compared to this term? What is the spread of tickets between sites/buildings/departments? What is the average time to response and solution?] - Yes, the bot has a online management system, where all this is mapped and graphed and made accessible to anyone you add to the admin list. So this can be accessed and easily understood by anyone you ask. The main reason we looked at discord was due to there being difficult getting through to staff with emails. Everyone uses emails, waits for replies. And when you're busy, waiting for the reply and it coming through at the wrong time can be frustrating. So we're going to try having the ability to have a instant online interaction with an instant reponse. A way to share files, images, call, and share screen all in one soluation. And best, all being free. (Unless you want nitro). We just wanted to try something different, even for our team (we're google based) yes there's google chat, but having out ticket system, and a way to have conversations, share information, announce things to staff, have a calendar to see which notifies you, the ability to poll and get staff reactions or ideas will take us forward (we hope)! Thank you for your response, you outlined some key things we've taken on-board. But we have done our own testing and we feel rather confident with it. We will let it take its' own course!

Discord is a difficult one to use, needing to use bots is the only downfall. But it works, it works rather well. We have done a assessment of it, and we think it will work well. And if you see our place on the news, then it wasn't my fault, remember that.

Thank you for your reply! We have discord blocked for students, and this is something for staff only. And all they have to do is create a discord account which takes a couple of minutes. The link is sent out through email and BOOM. They're in! It 's something, which with nitro too makes life very simple in regards to instant replys, video and audio calls. Saves time. The server alone took me around 3 days to create. With other bots for calendars, quick guide auto reply bot, which helps staff with simple issues. And other cool features!

We did consider this, but after speaking to the people who own the bot, the only data saved is from the initial questions when a ticket is opened. Apart from that, nothing else is recorded or stored. So unless they want to steal someones room number and their issue

That's something we looked at, and it's just a case of removing the staff member from the discord. We're sending out a one off invite link for a day, so this can't be shared. We also need to give the permissions to staff with the #verify in which that proves they are. From then on, removing someone from the discord who has left means they're no longer able to access anything. Thank you for your reply!

We aim for people to answer the questions without sensitive data, I think a room number, and a phone extension number along with a name isn't too bad. With the staff we don't need to request full names, normally just a first name or last name. We are aware that the bot is managed by other people (the person who made the bot etc) but after speaking with them it seems the only way the bot can store sensitive information is when there is a online sort of form which shows the answers shown. There isn't a way for the bot to see the information within the discord. So it isn't too bad of a safeguarding risk, because you still trust other people with your works information no matter what helpdesk you use. Thank you for the reply tho!

Good Morning all, I just wanted to show you something I've been working on, but something we're going to test with staff soon, but I wanted everyone's ideas and preferences with this! I've made a discord server for our place, which is also our helpdesk?! I know it seems crazy, but it works. Over 15 different topics to choose from, putting them into seperate channels for logs. Some quick questions for people to get to us with. And with a great way to look at tickets and follow/claim/close them. What does everyone else think? I would go into more features, but i'd be here forever. (Images are in a .zip, I promise it's not dodgey lol) Kind Regards verysmartbenn Images for discord helpdesk.zip

We use ColorViel for windows devices but use nOerlay for chromebooks. So for now chromebook wise we have no way to do this. Ouch.
