Hi all, Virtualising Smoothwall on VMWare - Physical setup ? Hopefully someone can give me a few pointers on the physical setup virtualising Smoothwall on VMWare. I've got 2 hosts -- Currently in the process of configuring distributed switches instead of standard switches so I can share the network config across the hosts. Current Smoothwall setup is a physical box that is EOL and needs virtualising.... Roles: Filter, firewall and VLAN routing. ISP router into physical Smoothwall NIC1 ---> out of physical NIC 2 and routed to my VLANS via trunk port on L3 switch stack. Hosts are connected to the L3 stack via 2 trunk ports (LACP). Is this a viable way to accomplish this ? ISP router into an access port on the L3 stack on say VLAN 200 ----> VLAN200 via the LACP trunk to a dedicated distributed port group for NIC1 of Smoothwall VM ----> NIC2 of the Smoothwall VM back to the network, routed via all the VLANS that require Internet. Think I'm pretty much on the right track but this has to be secure so obviously ACL's and VACL's will be set up to prevent VLAN 200 from going anywhere else but Smoothwall. How do you do it ??? Cheers in advance

Yep. Big beasty gaming rig for a mates kid. The kid is SEN and wants it to look like the laptop they've already got. Don't need a key ? I'll install and see. I don't think I've ever even installed home.
-
Ha. Yep... it was the license I needed too!
-
In fact, I was only after a download of Windows 10 Home (which I'm sure was in there). Now I can't get it !

They've moved us to the O365 Admin Centre version - WITHOUT NOTIFYING ME!!! They've hidden it well too. I was expecting it's own admin centre console hence I didn't see it... Its in Billing/Your Products/Volume Licensing. Again.... Blo*dy M$ Cheers for the input all. Hopefully this thread might help when everyone elses VLSC stops working!!!!

(Gulp) Edge = nope Chrome gives me Error Code E06. Page is just refreshing. Doing the same off site too. It must be my permissions. Blo*dy M$

Chrome, Firefox, IE11 (!!) All the same.... and on other PC's. Hhhhhmmmm. Must be my account.
-
Hhhm. Thanks guys. WTF is going on then. Private browser sessions etc, cookies cleared. Lets me log in but no links work (apart from Help - which isn't helpful). I don't get the yellow message however. Where do I check the permissions for VLSC users? In VLSC I bet! Which I can't use.

Hey all, Can't access our MS VLSC. Lets me log in but none of the links work... page just refreshes.... and hey, I only need to use it like right now! Been like that for two days. They haven't moved us to the Next Generation Volume Licensing ?? Cheers in advance

Displaying Student Medical Information
mikkydoos replied to paulkerton's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
I'd let her make a prat of herself. Some people don't want to be helped. The problem to me would be that she's been given a safeguarding role (OH SO IMPORTANT), she's going to fly with anything that gets her noticed. Nothing gets you noticed like a new picture on the wall!... and they all love displays on the wall. She'll see you as getting in her way regardless. She probably doesn't have any understanding of data protection or the legislation. I'd get your DPO to slap your policies in front of her like previously mentioned. -

Well I'd say as long as you've made the info readily accessible to every staff member responsible for safeguarding the kids (which is all of them) I'd say you've done your bit. If it were me I'd stand back and watch her drop herself in it then take the told you so stance Is this person one of those newbies who comes in warrior fashion ? They're dangerous! -

Then I would kick it upstairs and get your head/SLT to make the decision. -

We do for serious allergies or health conditions. IMO not displaying this info to staff is far worse than pandering to GDPR bureaucracy... if it were placed in a staff only area such as a staffroom that is. -
I sent them back to the vendor in the end. They are horrendously terrible. Totally unfit for purpose. I did everything I could on our network to try to get these working. Nothing made any difference. Get DECT handsets if you need wireless. I would avoid wifi phones altogether if I were you. I haven't read a single good thing about them. I just went for cabled and DECT's in the end and have had zero problems. Do yourself a gigantic favour and don't go ahead and order them whatever you do!!

Need suggestions for Blogging sites for kids
mikkydoos replied to mikkydoos's topic in Educational Software
Many thanks Alex. That does what I want it to do. Thanks for your suggestions guys -
Hi all, I'm teaching ICT (don't ask) for a KS2 year group. They're learning Blogging. I'm looking for a decent website where they can put their article onto and the rest can view/comment. They're all on Office 365. I was going to use Sharepoint but it might be a little complex for that age... and MS seem to have removed the blog template. Anyone got any suggestions for what your teachers might be using ? Preferably without me having to create tons of logins ! EDIT: I need each child to be able to write their own blog and share it with the rest of the group. Cheers in advance

Well that was a funny one. Persistent stale MAC address table entry on a switch causing the switch to broadcast the wrong VLAN.. hence couldn't contact AD. How the heck did it go all the way through the install so many times? Sorted anyway. God that took a bit of digging.
-
@Jawloms That's not the license info. Those are my notes for each license.
-
.....On the Products page in KMS. Update though.... just fired up a new test VM and it activated and joined AD no problem. What going on with the machine I'm working on? It is a re-install so I wonder if the database is borked. It's not showing up in the console though. Hhhmmm.
-
@Jawloms would you mind having a quick look to see which version your KMS is listing against your keys? Mine is stating Enterprise S. Can't remember what it listed before. Cheers
-
Are they activating @Jawloms ? I can't even open a command prompt in S mode. Gives me a 'This app can't open' error. Microsoft haven't pulled the serials have they ?
-
Hi all, Got a weird one regarding Windows activation on a KMS server. I'm deploying Windows LTSC images via WDS server with KMS providing the keys. This has been in action for absolutely ages working perfectly. Suddenly any new installs are activating in S mode and machine are not joining the domain (because of the version). It started after I was injecting drivers into the boot image using DISM. Thinking I'd borked the WDS image I restored the VM... but it still activating the wrong version. Funnily enough the KMS server is showing Enterprise S but they're the same keys as I've always used. Keys are from here as normal..... https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/get-started/kms-client-activation-keys Any ideas as to what's going on here ??? Cheers in advance.

Yep. Spot on. Usual things to be aware of however.... Antivirus, app control, safeguarding, damage, theft, inappropriate files and on and on and on............
