Thanks for all the info. Think I'm getting the hang of it. Plan for this evening is to go for a walk round town and link a few points, then take the dogs out to one of the points on the moor and try and capture it, or at least whittle it down a bit. Also try submitting a few points round and about the place. I might have chosen smurfs....

Installed this yesterday after spotting this thread. Thought it might be a fun way to get me out and about walking. Any advice for a newbie? I've found a few portals around town and hacked them. They all seem to be owned by one person of the same faction as me, I assume this is a good thing? There are lots of big gaps where I think there should be portals, how do new ones get created?

Just been on the phone to Capita about the same issue. They've said we had an exam patch last summer which seems to be causing errors when updating. I've been given a patch to run before the upgrade and one to run after to sort this out. Heres hoping.

Got 4 so far... going to keep looking!

Hi everyone Its starting to be apparent our current in-house filtering and web content control isn't going to be good enough for the influx of BYOD and iPads we're getting. We currently run a couple of squid proxy servers with Dans Guardian and a ZeroShell captive portal. This current system sends staff/students to the relavent proxy at SWGFL and allows a basic BYOD captive portal facility. The BYOD stuff is causing us problems. We can't re-direct secure traffic through the portal without it coming up with a man in the middle attack or just failing to connect entirely. Would a solution like smoothwall sort this problem? What other options should we be looking at? Obviously its going to be an uphill struggle convincing those with the money that we're going to have to start paying for something that we were previously providing for free. Just a bit of research and some info gathering to see if I'm going down the right street! Thanks James

We've just had 10 new macbooks to replace the 6 year old ones that the Photography and Music teachers had. They've come with Mavericks and I can't install anything else to them. They're playing nicely-ish with the our Lion AD/OD server. They get most the preferences. They dont play with my current Deploy Studio setup (which means I've gotta update that before I can image anything) or the current Auralia music software (again needs an update) Dont like this locking of platforms Apple are doing, the last batch of macs for media studies are M. Lion as they wouldn't take Lion. Also SSDs are the standard now for MBPros 13 and 15". All our music staff have 750gb HDD which means they'll have to transfer loads onto external drives as anything above a 256gb SSD is extremely expensive. A full Logic 9 & Sibelius 7 install is about 100gb. But hey ho. They have to have their shineys.

If you've got 3 other friends Borderlands 2 is a hoot. Gets a bit same-y by yourself but the crazyness of the DLCs is great with friends.

BT throttle P2P downloads during peak times. Mine go from over 1mb/s down to around 10kb/s at those times. Tends to slow everything down and occasionally will disconnect entirely. Have to reboot the router to get the 'net back again. I have mine scheduled for BTs 'off peak ' times, 1am until 3pm.

Has anyone heard any more about the cinema screenings? Trying to find out when/what cinemas it'll be available in.

Did anyone find somewhere to download Server 2003. We have an old storage controller which the software will only work with Server 2003 (not R2). Again we have the license key in VLSC but can't download (shows no downloads as the screen shot above). If anyone can point me to a download that'd be great. James

We've has problems with proxies and the dictation software on iPads It doesn't seem to take any notice of the system proxies.

Hi guys DT are looking for a couple on Android tablets to act as 'info stations' in their classes. Just needs to be able to go to web pages on our VLE and play the embedded audio/video. Any ideas? Any suppliers got a good deals? Cheers James

Morning everyone We have a bit of a problem with our Logic 9 install on our macs. Every time a student opens up Logic it insists on scanning audio units which can take 5+ minutes at a time. Once its done that it will be fine until they next log off and log on again, at which point it scans again. Anyone know why its doing this and how to stop it?? Cheers James

Kids slightly unplugging network leads/power leads so there is no network/computer won't power on. Kids swapping monitor cables/mice/keyboards to other machines. Kids chewing cables... yeah seriously. And we are secondary to sixth form, primary I can kind of understand but not years 7-13.

This weekend I will mostly be: - Setting up my new 350litre fish tank. - Painting the walls of the living room before setting the tank up. - Combing the woods/rivers/beaches hereabouts for free dift-wood for said fish tank.

The library folder holds, amongst other things, the user preferences. Its a little like the app data folder in Windows. Most applications on the mac will create something in here as soon as they are opened. Photoshop, Logic and Final Cut are the big three that are used here and all store the users layouts and any other preferences in this folder. Generally its safe to delete them as long as you don't mind it re-setting the user preferences every log in.

Yep, we've just done the same thing.

Check the time, if its out by more than a few minutes that'll stop people logging on.

Thanks for the input guys. I'm coming to the same conclusion, If I buy a new processor I wouldn't really want to put it into this board. As @LosOjos said it doesn't look well looked after. Sounds like I've got another round of eBay problems to deal with. Just out of interest what would you recommend as an i5 motherboard capable of a bit of overclocking and crossfire support?
