£60-odd for XL TV package with Sky Sports. I can't get broadband with them anymore since I moved. I don't know why not. Neither do they. The signal comes down the same cable but they don't provide BB to my postcode. If they did, I'd happily pay £100 for BB, TV and phone. I was with them for about 14 years, from 512K (Wow! I can download this 90 meg game demo in the time it takes me to eat my dinner, slowly) cable modem days, never had any problems at all. Ever. Now I'm with BT on one of their fibre packages. I log on to 'My BT' and it tells me I've bought a 56d/25u meg package, but speed tests consistently show I'm only getting 35meg down, on a good day, downhill, with a following wind.

Very spread out campus here, makes wi-fi an expensive luxury right now, but obviously we'll have to bite the bullet and spend the money eventually......soon. As soon as the only couple of blocks (so far) were wi-fi'd, I had a constant stream of staff in to connect their personal iPads and phones. Sent them all away again on the basis that they don't need to/shouldn't be using their personal devices for school-work. I'm hoping by the time we get round to wi-fi'ing the whole school, it won't be my problem anymore.

I don't get down-time to do updates. I'm told they're not important, usually accompanied by an imperious, dismissive wave of the hand. Cool. Fine by me.

Have to admit, I'm finally biting the bullet and installing Chrome on our Admin base image. Too many web-site failures with IE9 lately, that don't occur with Chrome. We've adopted the Awful App Inventor here too, which seems to prefer Chrome, so I'll eventually add it to our Curriculum image.

Awww...... It's awful when pets die. I had two budgies a few years ago that both died within a couple of weeks of each other. I hadn't had them long but blamed myself for not looking after them properly, even though I had. Too much emotional investment. I have two more now. I bought the two liveliest and noisiest that Notcutts had. Sometimes, that feels like a mistake. I haven't given them names, they have their own budgie names already. Unless they call each other 'Not Me'. Yes, that's right, archetypal Lonely-Old-Man-with-Two-Budgies. If you've seen 'Harry Brown', you'll know what I mean.

I must be getting old, or I've got old. I've read as much as I could of the funding page as I could before my brain neared critical mass with all the buzzwords on there, and I've tried to follow as much of this thread as I can, but......I'm completely lost. The only thing that made sense to me was the quote above. I trust cash......money....banknotes, coins......I don't trust financial advisors, I don't trust pension funds (other than the LGPS), or any other financial service which wants to 'hold' your money, to 'invest' it for you, on the proviso that they might lose it all, by the way, and it's not their fault. I am quite happy to keep my money under the mattress, in a pillow, buried in the garden (if I had one) or even on my person, in my sock......anywhere where I have control of it, and no one else, and when I finally cash out my pension, that's exactly what I shall do. If I have to die defending it from 'robbers', then at least I'm defending it, not handing it over to some sharp-suited, fast-talking, cocaine-snorting wide-boy banker, only for them to tell me, 'Oh dear, it's all gone, we made a loss on , but that's the risk you took when you gave it to me'. Have to go now, just had 52 Dell i5's delivered. There was another quote which seemed to hit the nail on the head......'If you can't tell who the sucker at the card table is..........'.

My elder daughter's partner runs a large, mainly fleet-based, servicing, MoT and repair workshop in Luton, so I have no worries in that regard, other than the cost of genuine BMW parts. My younger daughter's boyfriend (of 3 years) is a Central Heating engineer, so no worries on the heating and plumbing front. My son's girlfriend is training to be a teacher. Two out of three isn't bad, I suppose. Good Luck with the MoT, always a worrying time, but not for me.
